Chapter 55: Mansion Cottage-4
"Yummy, I always love the taste of sandwiches?" In the room, four figures could be seen as three sat on the bedside nibbling on the sandwiches with more in the basket before them. The fourth whose eyes twitched as the whisp of the smell of what they were enjoying kept dancing around his nostrils— all this unnoticed by the others.
"They do taste great," Mia remarked with a mouthful, savoring its taste as it swirled around on the buds. "Mmm, no— they’re simply heavenly. I wish I could meet the one who made this."
Alicia raised her head to look at her, puzzled by her words. "But Aunty, I’m the one who made it. Though mother’s pies tastes better mmm"
"Eh? You made this?!" She couldn’t believe it.
"Ah, you should come visit us with more of this, Alicia. My nephew would offer you his title for it— Hahahaa." Vans chipped in, finishing up a third sandwich and reaching into the basket for an apple.
"Nephew? You’re a grandpa too?" Alicia questioned innocently, still having gone only halfway through with her sandwich.
"No, nephew means I’m his Uncle."
’Oh, so I too am a nephew— cool.’
"But coming to think of it, I soon will be one. Or maybe I am already—"
*WHAM!
"Ouch! What was that one for? You can’t have gotten ma—"
*WHAM!
The pillow went straight for his face again, Mia not sparing any hit at him anywhere and from every angle.
’Um, I’ll go get a glass of water.’ Still holding the half-bitten sandwich in her hands, she got down from the bedside and was about to head for the door when something caught her eye. It was as if something had moved and that thing was none other than on the other bed. Turning to look there, she stared at Tham unblinking, when just like she’d seen from the corners of her eyes earlier— his eyes twitched.
Approaching with a step at a time, the two still fought it out with pillows, though it was on who was getting beaten by the other instead, she got to bed and stood by it before leaning towards his ear.
"I know you’re awake— hehe."
At her last words, in a split second, Tham had his hands going above her head, grabbing her from behind and pulling her up to himself as he got up. The other hand going to grab what she was holding, he was now on the bed with it held at her neck as he now had her hostage.
"Don’t dare to do anything funny else she’s a goner!"
The two froze at his words, their heads turning towards him. For a fleeting moment, they seemed mad with how serious their gazes were however, the next second their play resumed as if he wasn’t there also.
"Hey, you’re taking me as a— eh"
Tham could feel something soft and slimy on his hands, his eyes falling on the person he held hostage.
"What do you think you’re doing?"
"I’m...eating...my sandwich." She replied with her tongue still sticking out, her words barely audible and coherent.
"Sandwich?" Tham opened up his palm, only to see a piece of bread, meat and salad which disappeared in a matter of seconds.
"Haa, I’m satisfied." She stretched and yawned, peacefully laying back her head on his broad chest.
Seeing how hopeless it was to threaten the two, he placed her on the bed. "So soft." Alicia was now clinging to his arms, refusing to let go.
"Ugh, mind explaining why I’m here?" Tham questioned now at the side of the bed, the two stopping their act as they soon sat at the edge of the bed.
"Not going to lash out against any of us?" Vans’s voice was cold, and Tham was able to tell how commanding it was.
"I never wanted to be your enemy." He admitted.
"You were the moment you killed, Karen an—"
"Shut up! Do you know how we suffe—" Tham cut in on her, still maddened with having his eyes pierced into though he tried to keep the rage in before Vans.
"Do that once again, and your head won’t be the only thing I’ll be cutting here."
"My- my apologies. However, you simply can’t label us to be the villains here, we do what we do to survive— it’s a battleground out there. Anyone from the Slaver Clans is no enemy of the Hunters, we aren’t to blame if your leaders won’t accept peace."
"So, what do you mean to say then." Vans wanted him to get straight to the point, not remind him of the feuds between the Tamers and Slavers. As the tamers fell under the hunters, all tamers were hunters yet not all hunters were tamers.
"Let her death be forgotten." He glanced at the body a distance away.
"And we will do the same for all those you’ve killed," Tham added.
Vans stared straight at him and into his eyes as if trying to find something to make him believe his words. "Who are you to make such a decision on your own?"
"Tham Fern."
"And so?" It was as if something had dropped on his head, Tham was taken aback by Vans’s words. "So... I can make such a decision."
"I’ll make a deal and spare you and your guild." Vans stood up, stretching out his hand for a handshake. "But on one condition."
Tham’s eyes narrowed. "What condition is that?"
"Destroy the Thorn Guild, bring me her father." He pointed at Karen. "Denounce your oath to NobleHouse Allan, and leave the Crane Kingdom back to your lands."
"Hahahaha." Tham broke out into a round of laughter, being so loud that Alicia, fast asleep with his arms serving as a pillow had awoken.
"NobleHouse Allan? Why would we be vassals to nobles and even a crumbling house— who cooked up such a lie?."
’We?’ Mia thought, glancing at her husband who was now the one surprised. The Slaver before them had just condemned nobles, which could only mean one thing and his next words confirmed that.
"We are Vassals to RoyalHouse Juvel!" He exclaimed proudly, somehow expecting them to cower and tremble at the mention of the name.
’They should have had a backer stronger than the Allans just to talk like that. Let’s see how the tables turn now— you’d wish you’d taken my offer earlier. Treating my respect as being weak, hah!’
"Pffft!"
"Hahahaha!!"
"Huh?" Tham could hear someone laughing, coming from beside him, his brows furrowing in annoyance. When he noticed Alicia looking at someone else, following her gaze he could see Mia’s mouth swollen with air as she tried to hold in her laughter which soon burst out.
"Hahahahaha— the third RoyalHouse in this province. Not even the ruling one, never heard the Juvels even being proud of themselves."
"Seems like we don’t have a deal then. We shall resolve this with blood."
Tham’s eyes widened in shock, his heart racing as he suddenly threw away all his pride, falling on his knees and face. "Have mercy, My Lord."
"Mercy, tsk." Vans chuckled at his words. "I am giving you a week to disappear from this kingdom, I won’t expect a feedback from any missing person in Tilon. If so, there wouldn’t be anyone to save you. I will gut you like every monster I’ve ever slain."
Tham was trembling non-stop at his words which bore a violent trace of aura as he spoke with his eyes flaming silver.
"Mia, let’s head back to the mansion, I’m tired of this cottage already."
"Cottage? How many times do you want to be told it’s a Mansion?!"
"Now let’s not start with that again. It’s an undeniable truth that its a cott—"
"Wait Mia, don’t grab the pillow, don’t. Calm down, calm down."
"Aunty beat him up."
"Kekekee, I don’t plan on disappointing you." A mischievous smirk curled up her face.
