Chapter 64: The Battle part 2

The goblins from the cave moved at a vicious pace, tearing through the forest as fast as they could. Other monsters that saw them all scrambled in fear of what would happen if they were caught in the way.

The two shamans moved in the wind, having no need to walk or run. They used their magic staves to float off the ground without issues.

They met no issues as they headed in the direction of Aric’s camp. The bird flew in the air, leading the way to the camp.

Aric and Ariel stayed in a very tall tree, looking down at the incoming army.

"They have this many hobgoblins to throw at us? I doubt this is their full force as well," Ariel said.

"It can’t be their full force. They believe this force will be enough to get rid of us," Aric responded.

When the goblin army was under them and the bird was above, Aric and Ariel hid well in the tree. The bird didn’t spot them and flew past as well.

The goblin army moved forward at the same pace, but the male shaman raised a concern to Gorin.

"Gorin, Master asked us to split into three and get them in a pincer attack. What we are doing now is heading right for them," he said.

"Hmph," Gorin scoffed. "Master worries too much. This is a tiny enemy. We will charge them head-on and destroy their army," Gorin said and continued moving the goblins.

The shaman knew that there was no reasoning with Gorin. He kept quiet and allowed what would be to be.

Aric and Ariel could hear what they said, and what Gorin said made them happy. If he had gone with what his master said, they would have had a very tough time pulling the plan off. But thanks to Gorin, they wouldn’t have to worry about that.

"Ron, they will be using the main gate direction. Ready the goblins," Aric sent a quick telepathic message to Ron.

"Let’s follow behind, Ariel," Aric said and started leaping from tree to tree. They moved as quietly as possible to make sure they were not spotted.

After a while, the camp was finally in sight. The hobgoblins seemingly got filled with more vigor when they saw their target.

But as they rushed toward the camp, everywhere suddenly went black, as if light vanished. Immediately, it happened, and the goblins were thrown into turmoil.

Gorin, despite the darkness, charged forward. He burst out of the darkness only to slip on ice. He fell and slid toward the moat.

Aric watched and thought that Gorin would be the first to slide in. The moat was covered with normal earth, so a normal person would try to slide to that normal ground to be safe after the ice.

But to Aric’s surprise, Gorin forced his feet into the ice and then pushed himself, jumping over the moat cleanly.

Aric was shocked. Did Gorin know the moat was there? This was not supposed to happen. The darkness, the ice, the covered-up ground—all of that was supposed to ensure they fell into the moat.

When Gorin landed on the other side, Aric knew that he had to stop Gorin, or else he would sabotage the plan. Aric leaped from the tree that he was hiding in.

He cast the spell Wrath of the Ancient Roots, and a massive root sprouted from the ground, grabbed him, and threw him across the goblin army, darkness, and the moat.

Aric landed and rolled to stop himself. He immediately pulled his sword and pointed it at Gorin. "I don’t know how you knew about the moat in the ground, but I can’t allow you to sabotage the plan," Aric said.

"So you are the elf? Then you are the leader. This will be fun," Gorin said and took out his massive sword. "I have a high affinity for earth. I could sense the hollow hole beneath the ground.

Your plan is very creative, and I doubt any of the other goblins will be able to escape it. But that’s not my problem. My reason for being here is to take down your home and bring you along with me.

My master wanted you alive, but I’ll just say that you put up a very good fight and I had to kill you. I hate to lie, so make sure to put up a good fight so that the story becomes the truth," Gorin said.

"You know something? You talk way too much. You just met me and you are already blabbering around. I don’t have the time for this," Aric said and used Wrath of the Ancient Roots. Six massive roots shot out of the ground and lunged at Gorin.

Gorin was shocked for a moment, but then a smile formed on his face.

A militant rode his horse quickly back to where the Baron was. They had stayed in the forest for hours now, trying to search for clues or anything unusual.

The man didn’t even allow his horse to stop before he leaped down. His actions shocked those that were there, and the Baron as well.

The man ran to the Baron, breathing heavily. He forced himself to speak.

"My lord, I have spotted something very unusual in the forest. An army of hobgoblins. I saw them headed in a rush, as though there was about to be a war or something."

"Hobgoblins? How many did you see?" Fredrick asked.

"Over hundreds. I think two hundred is a safe approximation of their number," the man said.

His words caused all the men to open their mouths wide in shock.

"Two hundred hobgoblins? That’s a massive number. What could possibly make two hundred hobgoblins be moving together in this forest?

Get ready, everyone! And anyone who isn’t here, get them back. We are moving in ten minutes. I must find out what is the cause of this," the Baron ordered, and all the men scattered to get ready.

The Baron also picked up his sword and got ready to move out.
