Chapter 62: Making a farm

The rays of sunlight announced the beginning of a new day. Fredrick woke up as soon as the light seeped through his windows. He rushed into the small washroom provided and washed his face in a rush.

He came back into the room and wore his armor. He picked up his sword and hung it on his waist before leaving the room and heading outside.

He stepped outside, looking at the forest in the distance. After a few minutes, Robert also rushed out. He bowed to the Baron as soon as he saw him.

"Baron Fredrick, you are up already?" Robert asked.

"I said we move at dawn. Where are the men?" Fredrick asked.

"Out back, getting ready with the horses. I’ll go and get yours as well," Robert said and rushed off. He ran into the stable and brought the Baron’s horse with the saddle already set.

Fredrick got on the horse and waited close to the gate. Soon, fifty men on horses came riding. They all stopped behind him.

Fredrick glanced back and noticed Andrew riding in front.

"I broke some of your ribs yesterday. Are you sure you are up for this?" Fredrick asked.

"Definitely, my lord. Our duel yesterday showed me that I have a lot to learn. If I stepped back now just because of that, I would be nothing more than a coward," Andrew said.

"Good. Then we ride," the Baron said. He released his grip on the reins and kicked the sides of the horse. "Hia!" he called, and the horse immediately started running. The men followed behind the Baron, heading for the great forest.

They rode through the small path and made it out of the town. In a few minutes, they got into the forest and rode in the direction that the spirit energy had come from days ago.

The Baron was not certain if they would find what had been there or the treasure, due to the fact that they had responded late, but he hoped that at the very least, they would be able to trace down the people or beings that took it.

They rode as fast as the wind. Their numbers caused any monster around to hide rather than attack.

Finally, they arrived at where the treasure should have been, but what they saw there put them in confusion.

There were bones—human bones—lying around, and armor parts on the ground. The Baron raised his hand to signal his men to stop. He came down from his horse and walked to the scene.

He carefully picked up a chest piece of steel armor and saw that it bore the crest of the Baron. Each noble had their crest, and knights of a noble always carried their crest.

He stared at the crest in confusion. Why was his crest on that armor? He had never had a knight, so how was there an armor chest piece here with his crest?

’This must be the work of another noble trying to sabotage me. He took the treasure and left misleading clues here that it was me who took it’ the Baron deduced.

’But every noble should know that I don’t have knights. Wouldn’t anyone easily know that this is a lie? Something doesn’t add up.’

"Men, search around the area for anything unusual. It doesn’t have to make sense, it just has to be unusual. And when you see it, report to me. We will spend the whole day searching, and if nothing of value comes up, then we will leave," the Baron said.

Aric was shocked in the morning when he returned from building the moat. Ariel and Elisa told him that they had read the entire encyclopedia that he had given them.

He found that speed stupendous and downright impossible, but the both of them had no need to lie to him.

Though he was shocked, he was happy that they had learned it because then they would be able to start the farming process.

Aric allowed them to take charge of everything. He would only help whenever they needed his input. He sat down close to the house and watched what they would do.

Ariel started by asking some of the goblins to fully clear a large part of the camp. They had to remove the rocks, sticks, and everything that shouldn’t be there.

Luckily, Pentharis had made the tools that they would use—the shovels, hoes, rakes, and everything else that was needed.

The goblins cleared up the space at an amazing pace. After that, she showed them how to till the soil and get it ready for planting. The goblins were always quick to pick up things, so they got it immediately. fr\eewebno vel .c(o)m

She built simple irrigation channels from the stream with the help of the goblins. The land was quickly coming together.

Elisa, on the other hand, was working on the list of what was needed to be planted based on what she had read in the encyclopedia. She made the full list in her head and came to Aric.

"Aric, we will be needing the seeds for planting, and I’m assuming that you are the one that will give them to us," she said.

"True. So what do we need?" Aric asked.

"Well, potato seedlings, beans, peppers, tomatoes, corn. Those are the first that we will be going for now. Ariel and I will make a more comprehensive list later," she said.

"Alright then, that sounds good," Aric said. He opened the system interface and bought small bags of everything she wanted. He went for the ones that were of good standard, based on what the system said.

There were higher grades, but he was sure he wouldn’t need them. After all, he would be using his magic to help them grow as well.

The bags appeared after a small space ripple. Aric got up and helped her carry some as well.

"I still wonder how you manage to do things like this," she said as she picked up the bags.

"My secret," Aric said with a smile.
