Chapter 185: An unsettling feeling

Elise Chen and Owen Mills stood in the alleyway, catching their breaths from their nerve-wracking escape. It was still bright, and the two feared that Azrael’s men would soon come running after them, so they quickly continued their flee.

They passed a slightly crowded street, and Elise, overwhelmed by the recent events happening to her, forgot her public profile, leaving onlookers and passersby to wonder if the famous model and actress was running on the street with those crumpled clothes and messy hair.

"Is that Elise Chen?" one civilian noticed and loudly exclaimed, gaining some people’s attention.

Owen Mills panicked. He quickly grabbed his employer’s hand, snapping Elise from her dazed state. She realized that she was attracting unwanted attention and that her public figure might get destroyed.

Another person shouted, "It’s her! It’s Elise Chen!"

The crowd surrounded them. Thankfully, Owen was quick enough to carry Elise in his arms and bolted out before the crowd became thicker and uncontrollable. He didn’t hesitate to shove anyone who blocked their way and just ran away.

They successfully lost the crowd by going inside an inn. As soon as they entered a room, Elise collapsed on the floor, clutching her stomach.

Owen worriedly asked, "Ms. Elise, are you okay? Does your stomach hurt?"

Elise slapped the bodyguard’s hovering hands away. She slowly stood and went to the bed, lying her back straight and closing her eyes. Then, she ordered, "I’m hungry, Owen. Get me some food."

"Right away!" Owen quickly obeyed.

After the loyal dog was gone, Elise was left alone in that cheap room, staring blankly at the ceiling. Slowly, her blank and dull expression turned to rage. She clenched her stomach unconsciously, but when she felt a bolt of pain, her eyes ablaze with fury flickered with fear and agony.

She abruptly sat up, looked down at her stomach, and caressed it gently, then she mumbled, her wild and unfocused eyes somewhat apologetic and sad, "I’m sorry, baby. I didn’t mean to hurt you. I promise I’ll take your father back to us. He’s ours. He belongs to us."

Her thoughts were consumed by Azarel, and a smile tugged on her lips.

However, when Knox came into the picture, her expression darkened. Her eyes full of hope and ambition for a family with Azrael, were shattered when that omega came into their life.

Her breath came in harsh, uneven gasps from the hatred and intense anger she felt toward Knox. She gathered herself and thought of a plan. A plan on how to remove Knox Arden from their lives.

Meanwhile, after Knox learned about Elise Chen and Owen Mills’ disappearance, he told Azrael he’d understand if he left and took care of the matters.

Hearing this, Azrael had no choice but to leave, considering the impending problems Elise and her bodyguard might bring to them again. He ordered Roy to bring Knox and Knoa home safely, while he went to check on the place where Elise and Owen were held captive.

"Elise Chen went pale, claiming her stomach was aching tremendously. She also has a fever and seemed unwell, sir, so we were compelled to bring her to the hospital, but Owen Mills took that opportunity to escape, overpowering two of our men," the leader of the group in charge reported.

Azrael gritted his teeth and clenched his fists. He had an urge to punch the leader for their carelessness and uselessness, but he restrained himself.

The leader continued, "We came back here, leaving one man beside Elise Chen in the hospital, but it seemed that they planned it, as the guy monitoring Elise was found unconscious on the emergency stairs and Elise was gone. Owen Mills came and took her away. I’m sorry, sir."

Azrael sighed deeply, frustrated and annoyed. He grabbed the leader’s shoulders, gripping them tightly the man slightly winced from the pain. Azrael then ordered, "Bring them back here. I want the two of them to never appear in front of my family ever again."

"Yes, sir!" the leader shouted.

Azrael whisked them away and ran his hand over his face frustratedly. He walked back to his car, planning to go to where Kayden and his other subordinates were.

But before he could get in the car, the leader came running to him, an urgent look on his face. Azrael’s eyebrows furrowed. He waited and what the guy said next astonished him.

"Sir, the medical results from Elise Chen’s tests came up. It says she’s pregnant."

Azrael didn’t bother asking why the results were even reported to the leader, but as he drove to his next destination, his mind raced with uncertainty and he was completely bothered by the news.

Elise Chen was eight weeks pregnant. It corresponded to the time he was inebriated and drugged. He was certain nothing happened! He was sure of it! So, why was an unsettling feeling rising inside him?

His eyes shook.

Unconsciously, his foot pressed on the accelerator. Thankfully, the place where Kayden and his team brought the person they caught was in the outer skirts of the city, so the roads, narrower and a bit rougher, were almost deserted.

Azrael arrived at dusk. The bungalow house built surrounded by tall pine trees was like a haunted house in the middle of the woods.

The eerie silence and the cold breeze of the fall season seeped on Azrael’s skin. He was unbothered by the cold, as his head was still filled with unwarranted thoughts about what he heard earlier.

The air became thick with tension as Azrael entered the room, his troubled eyes changed back to its usual coldness and indifference. His imposing presence commanded immediate attention as soon as he stepped in.

His grey eyes then scanned the people gathered inside, until it landed on the female alpha seated on the couch, looking at him with a saddened and aggrieved look.

Azrael froze. His body stiffened as he stared back at that female alpha. Slowly, his eyes moved to Kayden, and the latter returned him a defeated look. In a voice filled with confusion, he asked, "What is the meaning of this, Aunt Raine? Why are you here?"

Raine sat on the couch, her posture poised but her eyes betraying a hint of anxiety and hardship. She prepared herself for that confrontation, yet her chest still tightened knowing that she would soon share the truth to Azrael.

A painful truth, that will determine the outcome of his relationship with his father.

With a small smile, Raine greeted his nephew, "Azrael. It’s been a while."

Sandro, Luis, and Kayden sat between the two, their faces covered with varied expressions, but their eyes shone with similar emotion.

Worry.

They worry about what Azrael will do, after knowing the truth.
