Chapter 178: An ex-convicted stranger
The silence inside the movie house was palpable when the family of three entered. Some people who lined up at the ticket counter froze upon being graced by the presence of the infamous business magnate.
Their faces showed surprise and curiosity, and in their eyes danced a single question, are they going to get chased away from the movie house because he rented the whole place?
But their worries vanished when instead of the staff informing them of the sudden cancellation of all tickets, nothing happened aside from a bodyguard who lined up to the ticket counter to present their pre-purchased tickets.
The crowd was split into two, not daring to hold the famous family of three in line. While others blatantly watched them with curious gazes, some were so bothered by their huge presence that they avoided looking at them.
Although, from what Knox noticed, many of those who were eyeing them with interest were omegas. Their watchful eyes were filled with envy at him, and awe and admiration toward his companion.
Azrael Del Valle scanned the lobby with a commanding and cold demeanor. Next to him stood the complete opposite of his unapproachable and domineering aura, Knox Arden, who held the little kid in his arms with similar features as the indestructible alpha.
Everyone was in awe of their combination. Some even expressed their excitement about seeing the trio that flipped over the media with their shocking revelations.
Knox looked up at Azrael who was seemingly observing the area. He tugged on his sleeve and asked, genuinely curious, "I expected you to rent the whole place. Is it really okay to watch a movie here? I feel like, they’re going to watch us instead of the movie."
Azrael smiled at the omega reassuringly. "I remembered you said you wanted Knoa to experience a normal life. So, I didn’t think of renting the whole place."
"Oh..."
"Papa, why can’t we watch movies here?" Knoa asked, listening to his parent’s conversation.
Knox sighed and asked the kid gently, "Are you not bothered with all these people staring at you?"
Knoa looked around, meeting eyes with the public who squealed at his cuteness, and then he shook his head afterward. "No. It’s because Knoa is famous! I saw me on the big TV before! Me and Papa and Daddy! That’s why people stare, right?"
Azrael nodded, supporting his kid’s proud conclusion. "Yup, buddy, we’re famous now, haha."
He then pushed Knox to the entrance of Cinema One, where the movie they chose would be played. The bodyguard came back to them and gave them the snack vouchers they paid along with the tickets.
Before they entered, Azrael exchanged the vouchers at the snack center and followed the two. Knoa’s excitement reached new heights as the row of red seats came into view and the big screen played the trailer of the movie.
They took their seats, and soon the movie played.
Knox watched his son’s reaction with amusement, while Azrael was watching them both with a warm smile.
Knoa’s reactions were animated and genuine like the other kids inside. He gasped at the shocking moments and covered his eyes in dramatic fight scenes, he laughed at the funny bickering of the characters and cheered for his favorite heroes.
Remembering something from his memory, Knox leaned sideways and whispered to Azrael, "This is his first time watching a movie in a movie theater."
Azrael’s eyes sparkled.
Another collection in his list of first times with his son was added. He made a mental note to get something like a souvenir. When his phone rang, all heads turned to him, but as unbothered as he was, he simply took his phone and answered the call, frowning next at the brief response he got from the other line.
Knoa was so engrossed watching the movie that he didn’t hear his Daddy ask permission to leave from his Papa.
Knox agreed. He watched Azrael exit the theater to speak with the caller in a quieter place.
He wasn’t worried about someone crowding them since Roy and his team remained behind them, but Azrael went alone, so his concern was on him.
Meanwhile, Azrael went out of the smoking area of the movie house, a space attached to a small park outside the movie house, where the windows were made of louvers opened to let the air circulate.
Another guy was inside smoking, but when he saw Azrael enter, he stamped his cigarette out on the ashtray lined on the protruding ledge on the wall and hurriedly left.
Azrael sat on a stool and answered, "What now? Did they arrive?"
From the other line, Kayden answered in a serious voice, "They haven’t. The guy who took your secretary was unfamiliar. Kayla tried to search for his identity but there was no connection between you and your father. He was a convicted fella just released months ago, but there was no trace of him contacting your father at all."
Azrael leaned forward on the stool, his left elbow on top of his knees and his hand covering his nose, irritated at the residual smell of cigarettes in the room.
"A dead end?" He asked, dismayed and infuriated.
Kayden sighed, "Not yet. Her team’s trying to find another way. There must be a blocked path or a hidden one, or maybe an obvious one that we only overlooked because it might lead us nowhere."
"Then tread on it. Suspicious or not, explore it," Azrael commanded. He straightened his back when he saw a fragile-looking, pretty guy, enter the smoking room. He knew already what the sub-gender of the guy was.
Averting his eyes at the omega who stealthily spread his pheromones inside the room, Azrael stood and looked out the louvers, his other hand in his pocket as he spoke commandingly, "Find out who is. Luis knows what to do, so aide him. Unless their lives will be put in danger, don’t thwart the plan and be discovered."
Kayden crumpled his face, thinking, getting kidnapped was already putting their lives in danger!
The doctor sighed and agreed.
Once Azrael puts his mind to something, come hell or high water, he’ll make it happen. He wanted to see who was doing his father’s filthy deeds after Philip died, but all they could find was a criminal, yet not even the slightest hint of connection with Rage.
How could they pin those crimes on him if that’s the case?
The call ended. Azrael pocketed his phone and his handsome face distorted as the smell lingered in the air. At the corner of his eyes, he saw the omega sucking on his cigarette and giving him a coquettish look.
Azrael patted his shoulder as if brushing away any odor that stuck with him, then he muttered as he walked away, deliberately letting the omega hear, "Smells like shit."
