Chapter 155: Sick and scared

After the call, Knoa stared at his father. He touched his forehead and shivered when he felt the heat. He then wiped his face and tried to carry his father, but they didn’t even budge an inch.

Tired and catching his breath, Knoa slumped on the floor and lay beside his Papa. He played with his father’s eyes, forcefully opening them with his thumb and index fingers, to check his pupils imitating the doctor he saw on TV.

When he got bored, he sat up and ran to the bedroom. He came back with a pillow and blanket. Then, he lifted his father’s head to slip the pillow under and covered him in a blanket afterward. Knoa took his stuffed toy and lay back on the hard floor again.

He hugged his Papa and patted his forehead when he saw him grunting in sleep.

"Pain, pain, go away!" Knoa chanted, lifting half his body to kiss his father on the forehead. He remembered how his father took care of him whenever he was sick, so he mimicked it.

Still, he kept pleading, "Papa, wake up. Wake up...Knoa will cry very loud again, Papa..."

His stomach grumbled.

Knoa rose and looked at the delivery food his Uncle Shawn brought before they left. It was on the dining table and was unopened. He hesitated. He didn’t want to leave his father alone on the floor.

He was hungry, but he decided to stay and watch over his sick Papa. He didn’t want to eat alone either, so he waited until his uncle arrived.

He was playing with his stuffed toy when he suddenly remembered someone. "Daddy! I should call Daddy!"

Knoa reached for the phone but was shocked when he didn’t see the name ’Daddy’ on the contacts. His eyebrows furrowed, "What is Daddy’s number? Why is his name not on it?"

He was troubled but soon found a solution – he called everyone beginning from the first contact.

"Is this daddy?" he asked innocently. When the voice on the other side sounded like a female and confused, Knoa quickly ended the call.

He called another and another. The number of outgoing calls on the phone reached more than twenty already when finally, the last name on the ’A’ list was called.

A familiar voice sounded, "Hey, I’m on my way home. Have you had dinner? Should I—

"Daddy!" Knoa beamed, feeling victorious. He even sprung up from his seat and jumped a little.

Azrael’s tone changed from flirtatious to gentle and childish one, "Whoa, hello there, little guy. Why are you shouting? Are you playing with your Papa?"

Knoa yelled, "Papa’s dying!"

Azrael calmly maneuvered the car as he answered, "Okay...he’s playing dead? What kind of play are you playing? Must be fun."

Knoa shook his head tremendously, frowning at his father’s stupidity. "No! Papa’s sick and he collapsed—

The car screeched when Azrael braked so suddenly.

The other car behind honked at him and the driver even shouted and cursed him, but Azrael just grabbed his ear, pressing the Bluetooth headset as though checking if he heard his son clearly, "What?! Where are you?"

"Home!"

"Who are you with? Where’s Shawn and Kayden?" Azrael panicked. He didn’t think twice and pressed on the accelerator hard and sped the car. Thankfully he was on his way home, so it would only take him at least fifteen minutes to arrive.

’But fifteen minutes is still too long! F*ck! What if Knoa leaves the house?!’ he swerved the car to the corner.

"I’m coming back home now, stay there! Don’t go anywhere, okay? Call an ambulance...ah, no, shit, wait for me! I’ll be there soon!" Azrael ended the call and pressed Kayden’s number, asking him to come over to his place.

As soon as he entered the building’s parking lot, he abandoned his car right in front of the entrance and fled upstairs. He ignored the security guard’s complaints about his badly parked vehicle.

His heart was racing as fast as running horses and drumming as loud as their hooves hitting the race track.

Azrael reached his unit and quickly went in, but silence greeted him. He ran inside, only to find the omega and his son on the floor, huddling past the wall. Many scenarios ran through his head, and all of them were brutal and tragic.

With the way he lives his life, it won’t be surprising that he’d come across enemies that may harm his family. It wasn’t helping that he suddenly remembered what he had done before he followed Knox to the orphanage.

What if that president’s lackeys took revenge on his family? Azrael would lose his mind literally if that would happen.

As he slowly approached the two unmoving bodies, he noticed their chest was still moving out and down. It turns out the two were just sleeping. Relief washed over Azrael as he knelt next to them, touching their faces and checking their breathing.

’They’re breathing fine, yet both of their bodies were warmer than normal,’ Azrael concluded. He carried Knoa first and set him on the bed, then he came back and took Knox, but instead of taking him to the bedroom, he lay Knox on the couch.

He picked the medicine he saw on the floor, and got water. He crushed the capsule and mixed it on the water, then he propped Knox up, leaning his body on his chest.

He helped him drink the medicinal water, but it kept spilling, so he ended up taking hold of it using his mouth, and helping Knox through a kiss.

A bitter taste was left in his mouth after the deed was done, but he was relieved that Knox wasn’t dead. His son’s words almost scared him to the point that he doubted their breathing.

Azrael carefully wiped Knox’s body drenched in sweat, and lowered the temperature in the room. He put a wet towel over the omega’s forehead and frowned after noticing the dark circles under his eyes.

"You said you’re fine. I should have stopped you when you said you were meeting your father. I should have stayed here too...haaa...damn it, Knox. Why do you always make me worry?" Azrael mumbled in a heavy and distressed voice.

He was about to carry Knox to the bedroom when the doorbell rang. Checking who it was, he saw Kayden accompanied by someone.

"I don’t remember telling you to call him," Azrael blurted out as soon as the door opened, his brows furrowed deeply as his eyes darted on the person behind his cousin.

"He didn’t call me," Athan answered coldly. "Knoa did. He said you weren’t here, so I came. Where is Knox, is he alright?"

Azrael sighed. He let the man inside and walked to the living room.
