Chapter 147: A lovely morning

Azrael always woke up at five in the morning. He would go for a run for an hour, then would start preparing for work after cooking and having his breakfast. He was always punctual, but that day, he saw himself sprawled on the bed, still tucked under the blanket, with two of his most precious people in his arms, while the sun was already high up in the sky.

Knoa was still sleeping soundly next to him, while next to the kid was Knox, lying on his side and an arm wrapped around the kid. His eyes shone brightly with indescribable contentment and happiness, as he watched his fiancé’s eyes flutter open. The morning sun slowly lit his dull and drowsy eyes, reflecting Azrael’s face smiling foolishly.

Knox yawned. Then he smiled after, mouthing ’morning’ to the lovestruck guy. He slowly rose after seeing Knoa still asleep.

"It’s Sunday. Let’s just sleep in," Azrael murmured, tugging on Knox’s shirt.

Knox ducked over and planted a quick kiss on Azrael’s lips before he answered, "Althea’s conducting an outreach program today. I promised to go and help her."

Azrael showed dismay, but he didn’t complain. He just asked, "Are you going to take Knoa with you?"

Knox nodded, brushing off the black strands of hair that hindered Azrael’s eyes. His fingers caught Azrael’s attention, and he came to realize that he just proposed without giving Knox a ring.

He caught Knox’s hand and played with his fingers, especially his ring holder. ’His hands are smaller than mine, but they’re still a man’s hands, yet soft and smell nice...’ Azrael thought as he brought the hand to his lips and kissed its back while staring directly at Knox.

Knox’s eyes twinkled in appreciation of his boyfriend’s handsome face and deep, enigmatic eyes looking intensely at him. The event of yesterday’s night rewound in his mind, but instead of getting embarrassed, an impish smile formed on his lips.

However, he was unable to execute what he was thinking because Knoa grunted beneath him. Knox straightened his body and carefully stood from the bed.

Azrael replied as he slowly got up from the bed as well, "Can’t he stay? I want to spend time with him..." he said that, but truthfully, he wanted to ask Knoa about something, without Knox finding it out.

"Oh...uhm, I’m not sure. I can leave him. I’m sure Althea will understand. But if Athan asks for him and if I tell him that Knoa is in the café, I’m sure he’ll go and check on him," Knox responded, hesitantly.

Azrael sighed and gave him an understanding look. Knox walked to the bathroom, but before he entered, he suddenly remembered what Athan told him before. He stopped and looked back at Azrael who was fixing the cover on Knoa.

Azrael noticed his attention. Knox pursed his lips and soon mumbled, "Athan...told me something about you."

The alpha grimaced. He walked to Knox and locked him in his arms, then he asked uninterestedly, "What about it?"

’If it’s him, then I don’t need to wonder what kind of rumor he spouted to Knox again,’ Azrael pondered as he waited for Knox’s answer. He dropped his gaze to the omega whose eyes were thrilled, seemingly thinking of something truly unbelievable. ’What could it be?’

Knox, with his gleaming eyes, hoping that what Athan said was true, finally asked Azrael, "He said you’ve been frequenting fundraising events and are actively participating in charity programs..." his small smile widened after witnessing Azrael’s bashful reaction. "Why are you shy? It’s a good thing! I wonder what’s making you busy these—

"Ah, mm," Azrael rested his head on Knox’s shoulders. How could he not feel embarrassed? The way Knox looked at him was like he was someone who finally chose to walk the path of light, someone who received enlightenment and decided to share his blessings with the world, or someone who suddenly became a saint.

It was a bit infuriating seems it looked like a deliberate tease, yet the way his green eyes glistened with admiration, disbelief, and reverence almost made him laugh. If only the omega knew it was all just a false show to smooth his name, he wouldn’t look at him like that at all.

Azrael hugged Knox tighter and shamelessly lied, "I’m shy because you just found out one of my hidden personalities. Being kind doesn’t really suit me, so I just always support these charities anonymously."

Azrael stuck out his tongue after spouting those lies. He grinned but paused when Knox did not respond at all. He pushed him away and saw Knox staring intently at him.

"What? Did you fall for me over again?" He teased.

Knox pouted.

He was thinking how Azrael was probably forced to hide that kind of personality because of the way he was raised, or because of the environment where he was raised. His heart ached for him, hiding his true colors just because he needed to be the perfect heir, an heir acceptable to his father, and an heir that conforms to Rage’s standards.

Knox raised his hand and caressed Azrael’s cheek as he answered, "Hm. I just realized there are still so many things I didn’t know about you. I knew you were kind from the moment you apologized for kissing me in the parking lot and giving me that car I didn’t even ask. I wanted to know more about you, so tell me what else you’re hiding."

Azrael stared at Knox. He already knew everything about the omega, from the results of Sandro’s investigation. He knew where he grew up, how he lived his life, how he was orphaned, everything.

That was why he couldn’t just tear him apart from the Horaces, because he knew how Knox dreamed of having a family again. He knew how important the concept of family was to him after losing his old one.

If he didn’t know that, then he would have already snatched him away without caring about what the Horaces might do.

Azrael pursed his lips. He was still skeptical. Will it really be okay to tell Knox more about him? What if he learns he blackmails, tortures, and kills, people? Will he still accept him? His eyes hid the doubts he felt.

Knox was staring at him innocently, and he feared those pure, bright, green eyes would be filled with hatred, disgust, and reproach. It pained him that he couldn’t put his faith in Knox yet.

Azrael faked a smile and answered, "What else there is to hide? You can ask me anything. I’ll see if I can answer them."

Knox narrowed his eyes at the guy. Azrael just wriggled his eyebrows at him, sporting a goofy grin on his face. Knox sighed and asked again, "Just tell me about your family. I don’t know much about your family aside from your father. I mean, I’m certainly not excited hearing about your father, but...I wanted to know how you grew up."

Knox smiled, imagining something in his mind as he continued, "I bet your mother had a hard time raising you because of your cranky personality," he couldn’t help but chuckle when he imagined Azrael throwing a tantrum over a simple thing.

Silence reigned between them. Knox wondered. He gazed up, but Azrael looked away and dragged him to the bathroom instead.

"Okay, I’ll tell you about him while we wash up together," Azrael remarked in a playful tone.

Knox furrowed his brows. Azrael wasn’t looking at him at all. Did he say something wrong? The atmosphere turned tense. He recalled everything he spouted, but his thoughts were interrupted when a small voice reached his ears.

"Papa...? Where are you? Papa?"

Azrael looked back. Knox gazed at him, examining his expression. Azrael raised his brow at Knox and spoke, sulking, "I guess I still have a long way to go until our son calls me out first before you."

Knox rolled his eyes, "Wash by yourself."

"Let’s wash up together, the three of us!" the alpha exclaimed and dashed back to the bedroom.

Knoa stopped rubbing his eyes and shouted after Azrael appeared, "Daddy! You’re still here!"

"Oh, what makes you think I’m already gone, little guy?" Azrael carried the kid enthusiastically and even threw him in that air a bit. "You think I’ll disappear if I have two adorable kittens next to me?"

’Kittens?’ Knox paused as he pondered.

Knoa giggled. His drool splashed out his mouth as he floated in the air for a second. He was caught by his daddy safely, but his drool landed on his daddy’s face as well. Knox and Knoa laughed when Azrael’s face scrunched from the liquid trickling on his cheek down to his jaw.

Knox took Knoa from Azrael and walked to the bathroom while he spoke, "Baby, you can’t spit on your father like that. Look at him, he looked so sad."

"But I didn’t do it on purpose, Papa! I was laughing because Daddy looked so funny, my saliva fell!" Knox defended.

Knox chortled. "Okay. But your daddy always looks so funny, still, you can’t drool on him, okay?"

"Who looks funny?" A stern and deep voice echoed behind them.

Knox looked back while Knoa cautiously peeked over his father’s shoulder. They saw Azrael with a pout and a long face, with hurt and accusing eyes. The two flinched when the alpha quickly strode to them.

They shrieked when Azrael suddenly swooped them up the floor and dropped them off the bathtub. He turned the faucet and set the temperature before he splashed the water on them.

Both his soon-to-be husband and his son yelled at him, "Hey!"

Azrael laughed. He took off his shirt and threw it somewhere, then he squeezed himself onto the bathtub, pulling Knox and Knoa to his lap.
