Chapter 124: Meeting you again

Chapter 124: Meeting you again

Azrael leaned at the edge of the desk, facing the glass walls.

His hands were in his pockets and his legs were crossed. He was staring blankly at the night lights outside the windows, the glittering nightscape and the agonizing cries from behind him weren’t deterring his brain from thinking of that particular day.

Until now, his face would darken every time he would remember Knox’s words.

’Let’s stop here, Azrael.’

Stopping is impossible, Azrael answered in his head. He could give Knox space, but completely erasing himself from his life would never happen.

’You scare me.’

What else can he do? It was already part of himself before they met. He’s willing to change, but Knox needs to give him time, not abandon him.

’I don’t want to be involved with you and your family again.’

"No, baby...the moment you walk into my life, you’re already involved," Azrael whispered.

His grey eyes shook as he saw his faint reflection on the window, illuminated by the glares coming from the outside lights. He thought he was incapable of getting hurt, but that face before him proved he was still human.

"ARGH!! H-HAVE M-MERCY...!"

Azrael slightly glanced over his shoulder and glared at the man crawling on the floor. He was the president of the Axle and Co. – the one Rage wanted him to take care of. After Rian left, to keep his mind from thinking of Knox, he went and obeyed his father’s order.

He told himself he wouldn’t go back to his old ways, he wanted to start anew and become someone Knoa would be proud to call ’Dad’. However, after finding out what the man did, he couldn’t help but resort to violence again.

’’Guess old habits die hard,’ Azrael thought as he walked to the man lying on his stomach on the floor. He stopped just right in front of him, the top of his nose almost touching the guy’s nose.

Judging from the unblemished air of that office, he concluded the man was a beta. For a beta to be this bold to cross Rage, he sure is foolish, Azrael pondered.

"Who else are you paying to assassinate us, hm?" Azrael asked, his face as stoic as a rock, and not a single hint of mercy was heard from his cold and sinister voice.

The guy below him shuddered and did his best to shake his head. He hysterically shouted, "I-It’s n-not true!"

Azrael clicked his tongue. He lifted his right foot and stopped the guy’s shaking head by placing his heel on the back of his head. The beta grunted. Azrael pressed a little bit heavier on the head as he spoke, "What do you mean it’s not true? You embezzled such a large sum and hired some hitman."

"T-that’s—ARGHHH!"

"Sir, we cleaned and cleared everything. What should we do next?" Roy came to Azrael and asked. Some people behind him came out carrying boxes containing all the files, confidential or not, in that office.

"This company will have to welcome another president. Deliver this scum to Rage and let him handle the punishment," Azrael said and walked away. In the end, he chose not to make his hands even dirtier.

He left the place after that. Going back to his house will only make him miss Knox more, but he wasn’t in the mood to get drunk after what happened the last time he did.

His hand clenched on the wheels after recalling Diva’s request. If it were not for her rational argument, Elise Chen would have been acting behind bars instead. The embezzled money was equivalent to the annual revenue of Idol Entertainment.

Although it didn’t hurt the group’s pocket, but if the contracts Elise and the Idol Ent. signed between multiple companies were breached, as the now parent company of the Ent., DV Group will shoulder the penalties.

It would be a huge amount, so Azrael had no choice but to grit his teeth as he agreed to Diva’s argument. For now, they settled for a restraining order while Diva implemented strict surveillance of Elise and completely overtook her schedule.

As he drove along the dimly lit highways, he suddenly recalled what Rian offered. He decided to call him and asked for the exact address. Rian was overjoyed after hearing him agree. He then mentioned which province and Azrael headed to that place without resting.

Azrael only came to steer his mind away from wallowing over his broken heart. He had no plans to attend the event and volunteer. What does he know about smiling warmly and talking gently to kids he had no relations anyway? Children will only run away after seeing him.

That was what he expected. But the kids facing him now, their eyes sparkled in wonder and curiosity after one of their playmates jumped and shouted, "Daddy!"

Azrael quickly ducked behind the slides. As soon as he woke up that morning, he was already planning to find a good spot to get drunk, but then Rian called and told him Knox had come without his family.

Without changing into casual clothes, he hopped in his car and drove to the orphanage with the checkered pajama Rian lent him last night paired with his indoor slippers, and with his disheveled hair and unshaved face.

A kid older than Knoa came forward and innocently asked Azrael, "Are you an orphan too? Or are you a beggar?"

Azrael’s eyebrow twitched. Maybe that was the reason the kids weren’t scared of him because they thought he was harmless and...pitiful?

He peeked above the slide and checked if the two guards recognized him. Thankfully, they kept on their position, one occasionally glancing at Knoa who was talking with Rian, and the other was just scrolling on his phone.

’The bastard, he should be watching my son carefully! What if he climbed the monkey bars and fell?’ Azrael seethed inside.

He turned back to Knoa, but a different face greeted him instead. In front of him was Shawn Williams, staring at him with wide eyes while Knoa stood behind him, blocking the kid from approaching him.

Shawn whispered, "Sir Azrael, what the hell are you doing here?"

Azrael appealed to the omega by looking at Knoa longingly, "I came here to see my son and boyfriend."

The shock was evident in Shawn’s face after hearing that. He couldn’t believe that his hunch was right! He froze on his spot, allowing Knoa to leap from his backwardly outstretched arms, and jumped on Azrael’s after.

"Daddy!"

Azrael caught his son and enveloped him in his tight embrace. He remained still for a few minutes, just silently rubbing his child’s back, as though imprinting that feeling and the kid’s warmth in his system.

Shawn felt anxious. He wanted to tear the kid from his father away because it would certainly be a disaster if the guards saw them together. However, his hand froze midair when he noticed Azrael’s shoulders trembled ever slightly.

He bit his lower lip and coaxed the kids instead, "Hey, kids, go back to playing. Lunch will be served soon, so you won’t have time to play more after."

The oldest of the kids nodded at Shawn and pulled the other kids away. Shawn sighed in relief. It seemed that the oldest understood his intention. If they all gathered around him, they’re bound to get attention.

One kid remained by Shawn’s side. He was carrying Knoa’s favorite teddy bear in his arms, while he watched Knoa and Azrael with sad eyes. Shawn gently tapped the kid on his shoulder and asked, "Are you waiting for him to give that?"

He pointed at the stuffed toy. The kid nodded and shyly answered, "Yes..."

Shawn suggested, "Let me give it to him—

"I want to give it back to him myself, mister..." the kid said, interrupting Shawn with a guilty look.

"Daddy...are you crying?" Knoa’s voice echoed. Shawn and the kid turned to him, wondering the same thing.

Azrael chuckled as he hugged Knoa tighter. He answered in a raspy voice, "Of course not. I’m so happy to finally see you again, so why would I cry?"

He lied.
