Bride To His Darkness
Chapter 83: Death Of His Embrace

Chapter 83: Death Of His Embrace

That voice....

Samantha could swear she remembers hearing a voice like that from somewhere, but it wasn’t the type of voice that brought peace to her heart, it was the type of voice that sent the hairs on her skin standing at attention, the type that sent her heart beating with dread, and when she dared to turn her head to confirm her suspicions, her face dramatically paled like she had tumbled on the forbidden, and she stumbled back in shock.

There were four of them that emerged from a corner, the caretaker, whom she remembered to be Officer Regan, and the remaining three who were workers in the slave establishment she was held in. Their gaunt faces, their heavy breathing, and the tiredness in their eyes proved they were on the run, but after sighting her, a look of amusement flashed within their irises.

These men were slave traders.

"Long time no see." The caretaker stood straight after recognizing the blonde-haired, green-eyed maiden. His hands were in his pocket as he watched the shock-stricken woman take a slow cautious step back away from them, and he could barely believe who he had run into in this valley.

"You’ve grown so much, little one, your buyer must be treating you well for you to have turned out this beautiful. But what are you doing here by yourself? Ahh... I forgot how ending up in places you shouldn’t be in have turned out to be your number one hubby." His commentary made the rest of his men laugh mockingly, sending countless chills down her spine.

"Where’s.... Where’s my brother? Where did you take him?!!" Ignoring his impish remarks, Samantha demanded despite being frightened to the core. These men, just staring at their ugly revolting faces, brought back memories of how much they made her suffer in the slave establishment. She could see her hands trembling under the tremor of their immoral gaze, but this time around, she wasn’t prompted to flee because she needed to get answers concerning her brother.

Her only family.

"What did you do to my brother?!" She demanded in a desperate tone when they just kept staring. "Where did you take him?!"

"Foolish girl," another member of the slave establishment retorted with a roguish smirk, whilst he stepped forward, gesturing at the ruins. "Can’t you see, or have you gone blind? A fire broke out in the tower a few days ago, and everyone in it was roasted to shrimps, including your lovely dear brother. He’s dead, gone!"

"W... what?" Slowly turning her despairing gaze to the ruins she didn’t want to accept as the truth, Samantha dropped to her knees when the reality of Ivan’s question kicked in, and she reached out to touch the scorched Earth, unaware of the tears flowing freely from her eyes as she was still dazed in a moment of speechless.

"Maurice?" She whispered his name, the reality of the situation weighing heavily upon her shoulders, but she didn’t want to accept it as the truth, she couldn’t! He can’t really be dead!

"I still remember how much he cried for his sister when I visited the tower," another worker of the slave establishment added. "He was always asking, ’how’s my sister doing?’ Sometimes he threatened, ’Don’t you dare lay a hand on her!’ and I would tell him, ’behave yourself if he ever wants to see you alive’, but unfortunately, he worked so hard only to return to God."

"You rotten monsters! I swear you’re going to pay for what you’ve done!!!" Letting out a cry of anguish, Samantha was fueled by her sorrowful anger as uncontrollable tears escaped her eyes. She had gotten up, quickly reaching for the dagger in her small sack bag which she had stolen from those hunters, but she wasn’t able to move too fast because the hunters had grabbed her the next second she could take it out.

They held her arm while she struggled, twisted, and kicked to free herself. The sounds of her struggles were evident to the cold night, and Samantha couldn’t help but feel utterly helpless.

"Let go of me! If I get my chances you’ll all pay for what you’ve done, I promise you!" She vowed in between tears, glowering menacingly at the caretaker who only laughed at her fiery reaction. He had forgotten how tough and unyielding the girl’s spirit turned out to be even in the slave establishment. He had dealt with her immensely that she nearly lost her life, but she was still unbroken.

"Oh, I’m so scared." He feigned fright, and then he let out a mocking laughter before approaching the young maid who glared at him through tears, but before Samantha could sense his intention, a resounding slap went across the side of her cheek, and the intense dull pain had left her frozen for a second, but she wasn’t given the time to recover when he grabbed her chin harshly, forcing her to look at him while he glared back with a menacing expression.

He was standing so close Samantha could perceive the awful stench of his sweat, it was making her feel nauseous whilst her nose wrinkled in reaction. When was the last time he took a proper bath??

"Do not blame me for the bad luck in your miserable life!" He seethed into her face, obviously annoyed by her accusations. "Why would I start a fire that could ruin my business?? And you, you should be grateful to me. You’re just a little useless bitch that I managed to keep under my care till you found a buyer, and guess what?" He chuckled in a low depraved tone. "It’s all going to start with you again."

"That’ll be over my dead body." Samantha retorted without any trace of hesitancy, shocking the caretaker who noticed the unusual smile on her lips, and as if his anger was fueled by it, another slap was given to her face as he didn’t like the reaction he was getting from her, and he grabbed her neck.

"Over your dead body it will be, and trust me when I say, there will be people who will fuck you dead, take her to the cliff!"

Ordering the workers, they dragged Samantha away to the top of the cliff until they arrived at a dead end. Glancing at the height, Samantha subconsciously stepped back in fright, but due to the two men holding her, she couldn’t escape, and she could hear them chuckling amongst themselves after sensing her fears.

"You’ve always been problematic." The caretaker sighed and smirked to himself, "say hi to your brother when you see him for me."

"No!"

"Push her!"

"No wait!" Samantha wasn’t given the chance to utter anything else as she was pushed from the cliff. The words she had been meaning to say hung in her throat, but her mouth was opened when she felt herself falling to her doom. With her gaze up, she noticed the four of them looking down at her while giggling to themselves, and all she could think about within that moment was how much she had failed everyone.

Her brother, her Father, would they forgive her for being as useless as those slave traders claimed she was? Was her life really ill-fated? There was absolutely no way she could survive this fall even if she dreamed of it, but why did it have to end like this in her family? Why was everyone destined to have such arbitrary deaths??

Life was so unfair to her existence, and now death was no different. Maybe it will be better this way.

Closing her eyes, the tears that escaped from the corner of her eyes were being stolen by the wind of gravity that pulled her down.

No longer choosing to fight it since this was how her tragedy life would end, Samantha waited for the impending doom, and when she neared the earth below her, anticipating the death that was no longer faraway, she gave in to the darkness that clouded her vision, only to feel her body land in the arms of someone, as if she had been caught at the last minute, but the catch had been so abrupt she could feel her body sway in the arms of whoever had caught her till they both dropped on the ground, except she was being protectively held while staying on top of this stranger who sacrificed his body as her soft landing.

Before she lost consciousness, the last three words she heard that was able to melt her heart was, "I’ve got you."
