Bride To His Darkness -
Chapter 214: Locked In A Room
Chapter 214: Locked In A Room
Later in the day when Agathe was done with the guests and had returned to her chamber, she made sure to ensure that no one would come around this path before going into the room. Aware of Marius’ temper if she failed to deliver the price he solely demanded for, she decided to speak with him one more time and beseech for another request. She was still deterred in his explicable demand for her son’s soul, but if she pleads some more, there’s a chance he would take pity on her circumstances.
What has left her feeling extremely agitated was the announcement she heard last night. If by chance that girl becomes Queen, it doesn’t matter who dies or not, but she will be officially stripped of her newfound reputation, and she would become an underling in the girl’s eyes. She will have to bow her head for the new Queen, not as a symbol of respect, but for the girl to cut it off with her own two hands.
"No, that cannot happen." Agathe slapped her cheeks with her cold hands, reviving her mind and body to the present. She should have killed the girl on the very first day she had the chance, but that isn’t possible now since Ivan is always a shadow away from her, wrapping her under his protective watch. She will have to do something about that girl, and fast!
Sitting at her dressing table, Agathe quickly opened one of the drawers and brought out the box from inside. Placing it on the table, she hastily opened the lid, but then, something strange happened. The same overpowering energy she was expecting to feel through her core was gone, and when she picked up the crystal, there was no power pulsating through it, no form of connection! No nothing! Horrifically, it felt as if the powers emanating from the crystal had diminished into specks of dust.
"It’s not working?" Her voice was a mixture of worry and bewilderment, whilst her eyes displayed her apprehension. She tapped the crystal in her palm multiple times, but it did not revive, almost as if it had lost power. She has been in the possession of this crystal for a very long time, and nothing like this has ever happened to begin with. How did the crystal lose power? Was this Marius’ doing? Was he blocking their communication so she wouldn’t contact him to change his mind concerning her son?
"Why isn’t it working?!!" Agathe rose from her chair, and it screeched back due to her abrupt movement. Staring at the crystal now, it looked plain with not a tiny trace of energy... but if she can’t contact Marius, how will she convince him to change his mind concerning her son? If she can’t contact Marius, her son will end up losing his life tonight, and that is something she cannot let happen! She had been blinded by her own quest that she gave up her son just to appease a devil.
But... but she can still stop it right? There’s still time to stop it.
"Yes!" She nodded to her own inquiries, "the contestants will begin training, and her son will..."
A gasp left her lips at the thought, her expression aghast, whilst she shook her head, unable to let that happen. When she tried to leave her room so she could meet with the organizer whom she had ordered to rub poison on Maurice’s blade, her eyes widened when she couldn’t open the door.
"What happened to the door?" Shock-stricken, Agathe continued to pull harder, and then it occurred to her that the door might be jammed, as this isn’t the first time she was getting stuck in this room, but why today of all days??
"Is someone out there??" She called out while banging simultaneously on the door.
Meanwhile, on the outside, Samantha held the spare key to the door’s room, and after crossing her heart, she left with the keys. She reached the top of the stairs and spotted Ivan who was waiting for her, and she handed him the keys to Agathe’s chamber.
"It’s done."
"Fascinating." Ivan received the key and glanced at the male servant he had brought with him. "Now this is where you come in, in an hour’s time, I need you to open that door, and when you do, act it out. Pretend you were passing by and heard her screaming for help, come up with something, but only do this after the one hour elapses. If she gets suspicious, you’ll die, and you certainly don’t want that do you? So do a good job."
"I will do as you’ve asked of me." The male servant politely bowed his head in affirmation.
"Good, little lamb, come with me." Ivan beckoned Samantha to follow him down the stairs.
When they made it to the second floor, her puzzled expression didn’t go unnoticed, and mostly because she was unaware of Ivan’s plans here. He had called her to simply lock Agathe while she entered her chamber, but apart from that, he hasn’t revealed the rest of his plans to her. As they walked, she stole a glance at Ivan whose facade remained neutral, despite what he just made her do, and her gentle eyebrows pulled confusedly, not to mention but all the guests staying in the Chevalier Palace were heading towards a certain direction like them.
"Fix your expression, you look suspicious." Ivan murmured to the young woman who walked beside him, further aggravating her nerves. Samantha was tempted to yell into his face that she looked this way because she was zeroed from what he was planning, but knowing she couldn’t do it, she folded her arms and scrunched up her expression even more.
"What are you doing?"
"Looking more suspicious." She muttered before moving her green eyes to meet Ivan’s crimson one, and he tilted his head slightly.
"Do I smell annoyance?
"Partially so, Your Majesty." She retorted as they took a turn, but it only made Ivan’s lips curl deviously to the side, and it formed a tiny smirk. Then he said,
"Your tongue’s on fire today, is my little lamb starting to free her delicate wings? Hmm.. I’ll need to clip them off with a kiss once we’ve gotten some privacy, but for now, I shall let you rant, it increases your punishment."
"Punishment?" Samantha stopped walking, clearly baffled, and Ivan was forced to halt as well. With a sigh, he turned to look at the woman who was cute and innocently foolish at the same time.
"Little Lamb, we have to be at the court of Celestial Valor, let’s not waste more time, come." Reaching for her hand, he entwined their fingers together, and Samantha tried not to let the heat of his palm reach her cheeks. Now that he had mentioned it, it made sense why they were taking this particular route along with everyone.
"Is something happening at the court of celestial Valor tonight?"
"Actually yes, there’s been a slight change in the next round, and Helena is going to pair the contestants into a group of three. Don’t worry, you’ll understand a lot more when we get there."
"But why did you lock Agathe?" She inquired with big eyes, and there was a malicious glint in Ivan’s crimson orbs when she asked. Then he said,
"She’s going to witness a little tragedy, my love." A subtle smile curved his lips, but it didn’t match the seriousness in his eyes. "I’m preparing her to face the consequences of her actions. Maybe I could have let her slide with a little punishment, but when someone threatens my little lamb in broad daylight, I will show no mercy."
