Bride To His Darkness
Chapter 188: The Abandoned Warehouse

Chapter 188: The Abandoned Warehouse

After having their meals for the night, they returned to the Inn. Samantha had taken Alain to bed since he fell asleep on the way here, but the two vampires strategically stayed outside while waiting for the stopwatch in Cassian’s hand to stop ticking. As the clock repeatedly ticked in the quiet place, the night grew lonelier and more deserted since the subjects of Fernwood were retiring to bed, and when the stopwatch finally stopped ticking, Ivan took off his glasses, his irises switching into a blood-red.

A satisfied sigh left his lips as he closed his eyes, his sharp canines revealing themselves the minute he parted his lips. It felt as though his vampire spirit were eager to reveal themselves and cause bloodshed to the underlings that had awakened their insatiable thirst.

"Shall we? It’s almost time." Cassian effortlessly grabbed the bat he had borrowed from the innkeeper. His Amber-brown eyes switched into the darkest shades of red as he stood beside Ivan, their gazes fixed on the full moon.

"The waiter had more information to spare concerning the councils, they’ll be making illegal exchanges at the abandoned warehouse tonight, and according to the waiters timing, they should already be there by now."

"Meet me there when you’re ready then." In the blink of an eye, Ivan was gone.

Crouching at the rooftop of the designated warehouse, Ivan’s crimson eyes glinted as he watched four guards who were dressed in their armory, take out many bags of food resources from the warehouse and where loading it into an awaiting wagon. Cassian joined his side a minute later, and two men suddenly stepped out of the warehouse, engaging in a lively discussion as their boisterous laughter was all over the place. From the older man’s attire, it was quite clear he was among one of the council’s who had been told to watch over Fernwood, and the man he was presently speaking to must be the buyer.

"You have more than enough, I wasn’t expecting a bountiful amount of this while coming. The people of your village are indeed hardworking." The buyer praised as they made their way to the wagon, and the old man who smirked cunningly turned his head to look at his buyer. He seemed quite pleased that he had managed to impress one of his wealthiest buyers who had complained that they were lowering the quantity of their supplies, and thanks to the King’s unexpected distribution of goods across all villages, they were able to gain more supplies, which meant more profit for them.

"You do not understand the risk that I am taking to make sure this trade of ours works." The councilman hinted discreetly, "Since I have surpassed your expectations, a little reward to go with it would be appreciated by everyone. In the coming months, I can assure you that more packaged goods will be ready for your arrival."

"Money always speaks in your term, but I have that." Snapping his fingers, a servant approached while holding a wooden box in his grip. When he opened the lid in front of the councilman, his eyes widened at the amount of gold coins inside. Before he could take the box, their deal was interrupted by Ivan and Cassian who had swiftly landed on the ground with a soft impact, their steps seemingly silent as they approached the two men who were now staring at them, their expression appalled.

They were seamlessly veiled under the blanket of the night, akin to that of a silhouette, and their glinting red eyes spoke volumes as the men trembled back.

"Vampires." The councilman breathed, his petrified eyes widening the moment they stepped into the light.

"I thought you said they didn’t know?!!" The buyer bellowed in fear and anger at the aghast-looking councilman before turning around to escape, but he was forced to come to a stop upon running into Cassian who held a bat. The buyer had his hands up in surrender while slowly backing away.

"Did the vampire King send you??" The councilman asked Ivan who tilted his head without responding. If it wasn’t the vampire King, then he certainly had nothing to fear since dealing with the lowly vampires wouldn’t be much of his problem. Regaining his composure, he ordered.

"KILL THAT MAN!!"

The guards of the councilman, who were unaware of who they were about to face, charged forth with their swords brandished, looking ready to bring the lowly vampire down, but every guard halted in their steps when Ivan effortlessly stopped one of the guards by grabbing his armored-shielded face. To everyone’s horror, he squeezed it within the protection of the helmet, only for the head to burst with blood splattering on Ivan’s face, and there was a dead silence.

All eyes lowered to the body that dropped dead in front of them, the armor shielding the nasty sight of the head from their gazes, but the blood that oozed out had them shrieking in fear. The councilman’s skin turned pale-white in fear as he backed away, and his eyes were fixed on the vampire who continuously approached him, the fervent need to kill was evident in his gleaming eyes.

No one dared to stop him this time around, and when he reached the councilman who was trembling in fear, he grabbed the man by his collar and yanked him close.

"Who is the leader incharge of this illegal trading?" He demanded, leaving a warning in his tone that indicated he would prefer not being lied to at this point. The councilman, who was still unable to grasp that he was before the King, immediately began to plead for his life.

"I didn’t want to do this! I swear on my family’s grave! I was forced into doing this! Please, spare me!"

"Wrong answer."

Everyone else stood rooted to the ground when Ivan plunged his clawed hands into the man’s chest, and when he pulled his hand out, he held the heart that was still pulsing in his grip. The buyer immediately dropped to his knees at the bloody sight, knowing he would be next, and just like that the body of the councilman was flung to the guards who trembled back.

"Get rid of that body, and the bloodstains too." He commanded the guards who immediately listened as though he had hypnotized them. Clearly, no one was ready to face such agonizing deaths.

When Ivan’s gaze returned to the buyer, there was something in his eyes that glinted the word ’You’re next’ and the buyer gulped down his dry saliva. Cassian received the box containing gold, and he eyed the man who was on his knees with evident disgust. His gaze returned to Ivan whose bloody hand grabbed the man by his collar, lifting him to his feet.

"What do you know?"

"I was supposed to make a deal with them tonight." The man readily confessed with sweat damping his forehead. "I secretly purchase goods from them and I pay them in full. The leader of the council is a man named Callum, but he did not show up today. They will be having a secret celebration at the Courtesan house tomorrow evening to celebrate their success. I was invited to the celebration... he offered the invitation card to me when I came to get the goods! This is it!!"

Allowing his trembling hands to reach into his pocket, he brought out the invitation card that the councilman had given him. Cassian received the letter, opening it up to read, and he glanced at Ivan before nodding his head, a silent affirmation that the buyer was speaking the truth.

"Is that all?" Ivan inquired, and the man bobbed his head truthfully in response.

"That is all I know, you can find Callum there tomorrow night, I’m just a buyer."

"Do you know what your illegal trading has caused?" Ivan arched a questioning eyebrow before allowing his lips to curve menacingly. "A friend to my enemy, is also my enemy." And he sank his fangs into the man’s neck, draining every vital fluid from his being till the body went limp.
