Chapter 185: knocks On The Door
Chapter 185: knocks On The Door
The next day, Samantha was all prepared to leave for her journey to Fernwood with Ivan. After getting dressed in a simple light-blue gown, Samantha had finished packing up a few things that would be required for the journey when Ivan suddenly stepped out of his bathing chamber, but he wasn’t wearing his customary royal outfit, to her astonishment.
Samantha’s awestruck gaze eyed the commoner outfit he was putting on, an appearance that didn’t befit his status as King. The garments were mute in color, yet they somehow enhanced his captivating presence. No doubt, Ivan was a good-looking man.
He had put on a simple white shirt, finely woven and pristine, whilst the collars were left unbuttoned to reveal a hint of his porcelain skin. A worn-out leather black vest hugged his toned torso, accentuating his masculine appeal, and Samantha involuntarily gulped. His pants, which were loose and fitting, was made of faded brown fabric, an unpretentious choice that leveraged the grace of his movements, and she unknowingly ate him up down to his polished black boots.
"Like what you see that much?" Ivan’s voice, which was as smooth as silk, caught her ears, and when her eyes darted up to meet his own, he was wearing his glasses, and his sapphire blue eyes made her heart lose a beat. He looked no different from a normal human all dressed up like that, but even so, she was inexplicably captivated by the enigmatic aura that surrounded him.
"You’re leaving dressed like that?" Samantha questioned him with dazed eyes, and when he approached her bedside where she sat with silent footsteps, he tauntingly placed one hand beside the space where she sat, and Samantha could feel the mattress sink at his weight only for the vampire to lean close with his other hand behind his back, his eyes seemingly gleaming with a territorial approach.
"You have no right to complain after devouring my very essence with those eyes of yours. Do I captivate you that much? My little lamb?" With a smirk that sent inexplicable thrills shivering through her body, his well-defined fingers playfully traced her cheeks with the lightest touch, and when it lowered to her chin, he tilted it up and whispered.
"Let’s go cause murder."
"What?"
"What?" He blinked as if he hadn’t heard what came out his own mouth. Samantha’s eyebrows were marred into confusion, seemingly tranced until his handsome face moved, and she could feel his hot breath teasing her neck. Once again her body was surrendering to his advances, and she wondered if it was his doing.
"A little breakfast before we leave?" Without waiting for her consent, the color in his eyes switched, and he immediately buried his fangs deep inside the scruff of her neck. Samantha’s lips parted as though she wanted to let out a gasp of shock, but nothing came out of it. Her eyes closed at their own will when she felt Ivan’s lips sucking on her skin as he drew the vital fluid of her being, and Samantha’s fingers grabbed the bedsheet while letting him take as much as he wanted from her. A few strands of his raven-black hair that fell across his face, tickled her sensitive skin, and it only enhanced the stimulation that coursed through her body like the familiar current she always experienced.
When he pulled back to meet her eyes that fluttered open, a satisfied smile curved his lips.
"Delectable."
Samantha’s pupils grew bigger, and the colors on her cheeks deepened. When he leaned in like he wanted to steal a kiss, as if he hadn’t had enough, a sudden knock on the door made him pause at his advances. Ivan’s eyebrows furrowed in displeasure, disliking the idea of someone interrupting him when he had this woman where he wanted her.
When Samantha heaved a deep breath of relief at the thought of Ivan freeing her, her eyes snapped wide in awe when he captured her lips, regardless of whoever it was that came knocking as he ignored it.
It had caught her off-guard; the weight of him effortlessly pushed her down on the mattress. She had opened her mouth partially to let out a scream of protest, but her eyes shut tightly when she felt his tongue deftly thrust into her mouth, silencing her. The knock on the door was never ending, but Ivan simply ignored it as this was more important to him. She had given him a hard time last night, so it was only fair he relished his little lamb, and as always, she had him tempted to fulfill his wild fantasies with her on this bed.
*Knock! Knock! Knock!*
Alarmed that whoever it was that waited outside would come in, Samantha’s small fist pounded Ivan’s chest as she made attempts to push him back, but who was she kidding? Everytime he always reminded her that she was at his Mercy.... God, she needed to breathe urgently before she ended up passing out. Rather than releasing her, she felt his unruly hands grab her hips, as if he was trying to feel her skin through the silky fabric of her dress, and the feels of it nearly had her moaning out for him to hear.
Yet he claims she was driving him mad.
"Mhmmn..!!"
When she muffled his name in between the passionate kiss they shared, he finally pulled back to meet her gorgeous green eyes. For a brief moment, they just stared, breath heaving at the same time, hearts beating erratically with the same melody, and Samantha knew she should draw the line between them.... She should remind him of where he belonged and where she belonged, but looking into those smoldering eyes that were laced with pure tenderness for her only, she didn’t have the heart to do it.
At her speechlessness, Ivan smiled once more, his lips curving tauntingly, and the knock on the door was heard for the umpteenth time.
"Who is it?" He finally answered as he pulled away from the breathless Samantha. He reached for the door and opened it, and before his threshold stood Herbert who lowered his head in a respectable bow. He had caught a glimpse of the man’s attire and had to lift his gaze out of stupefaction to look at his Majesty. He wouldn’t have recognized him if it wasn’t for the alluring blue eyes and familiar glasses his vampire Lord was always accustomed to even as a child.
"You...Ahem!" Herbert cleared his throat upon realizing he was staring a little too much. "You asked for me, Your Majesty?"
"Yes, I did. Come in." He gave way for Herbert to make his entrance, and when Herbert stepped in, he noticed Samantha who had risen from her mattress. She flashed him a welcoming smile, but the flush of her cheeks had Herbert puzzled for some seconds before he acknowledged her smile with a warm one.
"I didn’t call you here to exchange glances with my little lamb, avert those eyes, now." Ivan’s blue eyes narrowed into a glaring slit at Herbert who immediately kept his gaze fixed to the ground. He hadn’t missed their little exchange, but he didn’t like it either, his little lamb was for his eyes only.
"Why was I summoned, Your Majesty?"
"I need you to stay by Maurice’s side until my return from Fernwood." He said to Herbert, and Samantha, who hadn’t been aware of Ivan’s plans for her brother, moved forward to stand by his side, and her eyes, which were a mixture of surprise and bafflement, gazed at Ivan.
"Isn’t Herbert coming with us? He’s your trusty aid."
"I know, but he’s one of my eyes in the Palace as well as my personal guard. Maurice will be safer by his side, and no harm will come to him." He assured Samantha whose lips turned appreciative, and she felt more relieved to know Maurice won’t be alone now.
She had already told Lucy to help her make Maurice’s meals by herself, and the woman had agreed on the condition that she brings her some of Fernwood’s popular cornbread. Samantha couldn’t wonder what life without Lucy in the Palace would have been for her. If she knew Ivan was making the sacrifice of leaving his trusted guards in the hands of her brother, she would have found ways to repay him for his seemingly good deed today, overlooking the fact that he just had her in her bed a few minutes ago.
"I will keep young Maurice company and make sure he is safe." Herbert assured them both, and Ivan strictly added.
"Besides keeping him safe, he needs to train as well. The event will be a tough row to hoe, so make sure he follows the instructions."
"Of course, Your Majesty."
After making everyone aware of what they needed to do, Samantha had taken her time to go see Maurice before leaving. Lucy had joined them after successfully managing to slip from her duty to see her friend.
"Don’t forget my cornbread." Lucy reminded her. "As for Maurice, you won’t have to worry about him. I was good at babysitting in my hometown, so he’s in good hands."
"Babysitting? I’m not a child." His monotonous response had Lucy rolling her eyes. "You’re nineteen and I’m older."
"Age is just a number."
"I’ll be late." Samantha ended their petty bickering with her voice, and she smiled at the two of them. "I’ll have to get going now. Don’t die on me till I come back, okay?"
"Will you get me the journals I asked for then?" Inquired Maurice, and he watched his sister place her hands on her hips while giving him one of those exasperated expressions.
"Maurice, I’m not going there to go shopping. Where do you want me to get the money?"
"You’re going with his Majesty, aren’t you not? What’s the need of moving with someone as wealthy as him if he won’t assist you with a little journal." Came Maurice’s blatant response that had Samantha’s pupils dilating. Even Lucy had to look at Maurice who believed he was stating nothing but facts.
"You know something, you are absolutely right!" Lucy snapped her fingers, taking sides with Maurice, and she looked at Samantha with ecstatic brown eyes. "I should probably write you a list of things I’ll need from Fernwood– wait where are you going?? You still need the list." Lucy questioned Samantha who had turned around and was taking her leave.
"Goodbye." Samantha was done with the two of them. They don’t even understand the reason why she and Ivan were making this journey to Fernwood village, and although it frustrated her a little, her heart refused to calm whenever they mentioned his name in front of her.
Now that it had inadvertently crossed her mind, she was going to spend a whole two days with Ivan!! They say even a minute can change a person’s life, and now it made her wonder if her life would automatically change within these two days in Fernwood.
