Bound To The Ice Dragon King -
Chapter 88: Manipulating her mind
Chapter 88: Manipulating her mind
Draven spoke calmly once more, stating, "I don’t need you to ask your father to give up the powers. All I require is your assistance in luring him away from the establishment. I will then use my own methods to obtain the powers."
Valen silently pondered the situation for a moment before expressing his concerns, saying, "While it wouldn’t be difficult to lure Edmund away, I worry that if he returns to find the powers missing, he may blame me and finally have a reason to get rid of me. Draven, your request seems like stepping into quicksand - it’s risky."
Draven lightly tapped his index finger on the table, revealing his contemplation. However, after three taps, he lifted his piercing blue eyes to meet Valen’s hazel ones and calmly replied, "You only need to draw him away from the building for a short time. That should be enough. Even if he were to return and discover us, it wouldn’t put you in danger anymore. I have my own methods to ensure that Edmund won’t cause you any harm."
Valen’s eyebrows twitched slightly as he responded, "Draven, your words carry a significant claim."
Rhea was taken aback by those words as well. If Draven wanted to protect Valen from Edmund’s harm, he would either have to strip away his flame powers, which was impossible since Draven had no powers anymore, or...kill him!
Draven continued, "From what I can gather, dealing with him won’t be difficult."
Rhea stared at Draven in disbelief. It would be incredibly challenging! Draven had no dragon powers or any magic abilities anymore, except for his icy blood, but that wouldn’t be enough to confront Edmund’s flames. Who was he fooling? He would end up getting killed instead.
Having witnessed the intensity of Edmund’s flames, she was well aware of his formidable nature. If Draven were to engage in a battle against him, he would undoubtedly be consumed by the flames. This was not a mere physical confrontation, but rather a clash of magical forces. How did Draven intend to confront Edmund?
"My stepfather is an old bone, he’s also an expert in flame magic. It won’t be easy for you to go against him." Valen had the same thought as Rhea.
The corner of Draven’s mouth pulled into a smirk, "I dare give my words and take the risk of entering that establishment. But can’t you also dare to take the risk of trusting me as well? Or perhaps is Lord Valen scared?"
Smart moves. Rhea thought as she shot Draven a look. What was he planning?
Valen chuckled with amusement, stating, "You’re quite an intriguing man, Draven. If I don’t agree with you, it might make me appear inferior and timid in comparison to you." After a brief pause, he added, "I’ll take some time to think it over and inform you of my decision at a later time."
Draven didn’t push the issue anymore, and calmly stood up to his feet. "I’ll take my leave then."
Was he leaving just like that? Rhea was slightly shocked. The two of them had usually made plans together, and she was usually the one taking the lead, but it appeared that she had no say in this conversation or his plans. It seemed he had made his own decision without consulting her...
Rhea remained silent and obediently trailed behind him as they exited the room. However, as they approached the hallway, she blocked his path and positioned herself in front of him. "What are your intentions? How do you intend to confront lord Edmund?"
"I won’t be confronting him," he remarked nonchalantly, "My dragon powers aren’t a part of my current human body, so I won’t be able to use them properly until I regain my dragon form."
Rhea was taken aback, "Huh? Then how do you plan on facing his flames?"
Draven looked down at her, "Rheanna."
He called her full name with a serious tone, but yet her heart thumped at his melodious voice. Her name sounded so right coming from him, it made warmth swell her heart, and her face turned deep red. She slowly glanced up at him with her black orbs reflecting the lights in the hallway, her voice was small as she said, "Yes?"
Draven raised his hand and gently patted her head like an adorable puppy, she was startled by his actions, but yet she didn’t move away from his gentle touch. He then said, "You have the most powerful core in your body, so you will go against Edmund."
Rhea was stunned beyond words. So after he made all those plans alone without consulting her and even told Valen that he’d handle Edmund, it turned out he was going to tell her to face the man in the end! He was pushing her into the devil’s den, to face his flame magic on her own!
For a split moment, Rhea felt the urge to strangle Draven to death. She slapped his hand away from her head in anger. She was just a mere girl with no flames, how was she going to fight Edmund to death?
Rhea gritted her teeth and then resisted the urge of choking his neck, she then smiled tightly, "And how come you made all these arrangements without asking me first? What If I say I won’t do it?"
"You have no choice, you will do it because I want you to do it." He said firmly but calmly.
"I..."Rhea wanted to say she wouldn’t do it to his face. But she suddenly struggled to find the words to reject him, they stayed trapped in her throat. She couldn’t bring herself to refuse him. It felt as if some unseen force was manipulating her emotions and thoughts. She couldn’t explain it, but suddenly, she felt an urge to confront Edmund because Draven desired it. Without even realizing it, she found herself uttering, "I’ll do it..." Her voice was barely audible as she glanced at Draven. "If I use my ice spikes against his flames, there’s a chance that I’ll be recognized as Rheanna Villden. I don’t want my family to discover what I’m up to in the capital..."
If it was announced that a girl with ice spikes had killed lord Edmund and stole the powers, if someone with the knowledge of her family’s internal affairs found out, they would know she was the one. It had to be the troublesome second daughter of the Duke who dared released the dragons before. Eventually, Oriana would find out, Alina would find out, even Azure would also find out.
Rhea didn’t want Azure nor her family to find out that she was helping a dragon king considered to be an enemy to the humans. Not that Azure was that important to her anymore, but she didn’t just want to hate him.
Draven, who had just used their shared connection to make Rhea believe she wanted to fight Edmund remained silent for a moment. He didn’t want to use this method on the girl, but he had no choice, he had a huge responsibility on his shoulders, his kind mattered to him more than her feelings and emotions.
Nevertheless, he had not considered the possibility of her family discovering her. It was impossible to disclose her identity at this moment since he had not completely recovered his form. Moreover, if Alina were to learn that Rhea was the one who had stolen the dragon powers and killed her uncle, the consequences would be dire. The mere thought itself was already terrible. Therefore, it was important to keep her true identity a secret from everyone.
"If I don’t use my spikes to fight his flames, then I have no other way to fight him." She murmured softly, "What will I do now?"
Draven remained silent for a moment, then said, "You are good at learning fast, right?"
Rhea blinked her doll-like black eyes, then nodded, "Yes..."
"Good, then I’ll teach you how to use a dragon power with the core in your body." He declared.
Rhea was stunned, "What? How?"
"It’s simple, you will pretend to be from the east dragon clan, I will teach you all the dragon moves and how to conjure ice with a flick of your fingers."
For a brief moment, Rhea thought she’d heard incorrectly, "What did you say you’ll teach me?"
"I will teach you how to conjure ice like a dragon." He repeated.
