Bound To The Ice Dragon King -
Chapter 227: Realization in the battle ground
Chapter 227: Realization in the battle ground
Lilac and Rhea journeyed to Birhhan with the help of Lilac’s wings and magic. They passed through the border mountain where the dragon soldiers and Erebus’ demon armies were engaged in a heated battle. Erebus hadn’t come to destroy the world alone, he had made himself a thousand strong army to fight along side him. And the fierce battle between the two sides, exceeded Rhea’s expectations. However, the most surprising thing was that even the fire controllers were fighting along side the Dragons to defeat Erebus’ army.
Approaching Birhhan, Rhea felt a detachment from it, it no longer had a feel of home. All her mind was on finding Draven and seeing him win before she would fall dead, she wanted to look at him one last time in all his full glory. Not long, they arrived at the place where Erebus and Draven were facing off each other.
Erebus amerged from under the ground. As he appeared a fierce gale and piercing black vines wreaked havoc among the soldiers fighting with his army. Lilac, who was flying overhead with Rhea, skillfully dodged the vines, but a persistent vine ensnared her ankle. Just as she prepared to cut it off with her magic, a wave of heat swept through the ground, incinerating the vines and leaving scotched earth. Looking up, she noticed a fire controller had used his powers to burn the vines.
With the threat gone, Lilac slowly descended and lowered Rhea to the ground. They watched as the chaos unfolded among the soldiers, it was a mess of a battle with a lot of death and wounded soldiers. Lilac decided to help the wounded men with her magic while leaving Rhea at the side in a safe corner.
Rhea crouched down and looked up, she noticed the power struggle between Draven and Erebus in midair. In the power struggle between two mighty beings, there was no chance of going easy in the fight.
Perhaps if Rhea had been healthy enough to fight along side her husband, she wouldn’t had have the privilege of witnessing what she was seeing now. Her husband looked almighty and powerful in the sky, he was using his all to fight: because he knew his failure meant the world’s failure, and his victory meant the world’s victory as well.
Rhea was fortunate enough to have fallen in love with an angel like Draven El-Dezeus. She was fortunate to have known what it was like to be loved by a selfless man like her husband. She loved him so much, she wanted to share his victory today, but she knew it was just a wish that could never come true. She would be gone by the time he was done...
Rhea smiled with tears in her eyes as she watched her husband, and Lilac, unable to comprehend what was making her savior smile in this condition, asked, "Rhea... what is it, why are you smiling?"
"Nothing," Rhea shook her head, wiping the tears off her eyes, she continued to say, "I just suddenly realized how lucky I was that I actually got to be his wife in this lifetime. It’s wonderful how we came to know and love each other, at least I will die knowing I have been loved."
Fate was a funny thing, when she had met Draven all she wanted was a fulfilling life of wealth, she’d never expected to grow into a woman who learned the value of life through the eyes of a dragon with a betrayed heart.
She’d never expected to be the wife of a mighty being, never expected to know what it felt like to be loved unconditionally.
Draven had been given to her like a gift of everything else she’d lacked in her life, and right now...even as her life slowly swirled into dark smoke just before her eyes, she had no regrets....no regrets at all.
Lilac’s expression turned slightly bitter as she observed Rhea’s fragile state, despite looking half-dead, she was smiling up at her husband in the sky like a love struck fool. Lilac looked away from her and murmured, "I don’t understand. Rhea, clearly you are dying right now. How is it consider lucky? The Heavens aren’t being fair with you."
Rhea laughed weakly, "You haven’t been out of your made up world for that long," she said. "Perhaps one day you’ll also meet someone like that. He’ll make you feel like meeting him is the luckiest thing you’ve ever had. He won’t make you feel hate nor make you have any dissatisfaction about unfair matters anymore because as long as you’re with him, you’ll be happy and feel like a queen. Even if you’ve reached your limit, you’ll be happy, even if you’re dying, you’ll be happy and feel like you’ve won something in life..."
Lilac shook her head and said, "I don’t want to meet someone like that. I don’t want to ever be loved like that if it meant I will have to die. I don’t want to ever experience this..."
Just as Lilac was speaking, a loud resounding boom shook the earth as the two mighty beings started to get more serious about their fight. It was Erebus’ powers that slammed Draven to the ground, but he got up immediately and resumed to fight. He was fighting without the need to even transform to his Dragon form.
All the soldiers around the battle grounds cleared the area as the fight got more intense. Since they had already dealt with Erebus’ army, they ran in different directions, as staying there would be like making themselves an easy target for Erebus’, who was in need of dragon cores.
The intense magical battle tore the sky apart, breaking the thick gloomy clouds and the ground. Thunder rumbled in the sky and the grounds shook violently. To those Dragons who had lived for a very long time, could tell the fight was much like the fight centuries ago between Erebus and the elder El-Dezeus.
To Draven’s belief, he had recently trained himself and mended with the serpent core, which was why he was now powerful enough to defend Erebus’ powers. Although he didn’t grasp techniques beyond the normal Dragons, he found out that he could predict Erebus’s attacks without much trouble. Which also surprised him and made him wonder how powerful was this serpent core. However, after a few rounds, where he was trying to wonder and fight at the same time, Erebus caught on to him.
During a clash of their swords, Erebus chuckled coldly, "I heard you took a serpent core, I never knew that cunning snake had these powers. Tell me the secret boy, how did you mend with it?"
Draven stayed silent, he acted like he didn’t hear what Erebus was saying and pushed his ice sword against his own.
Erebus smirked and turned, leaving only a shadow in front of Draven. In the blink of an eye, Erebus appeared behind him, swinging his sword at Draven’s neck. Unfazed, Draven didn’t even turn his head. The frosty aura around him intensified, looking like a frozen star in the sky. The dazzling icy brilliance was enough to push Erebus back.
Erebus was pushed away about 400 meters away from Draven, caught by icy powers of the mighty ice Dragon king.
A bit of blood rolled out from the corner of his lips, but his eyes gleamed dangerously as he looked at Draven. The madness in his red eyes was no longer hidden as he looked at Draven in disbelief.
"You actually got it back," Erebus said, laughing like a manic. His figure flashed, covering the 400 meters in an instant, appearing right in front of Draven again. This time, he angled his large sword and attacked fiercely, the blade aimed at Draven’s chest.
"You actually took it back, and here I thought you’d never do it for love. You are nothing like your father," Erebus laughed, "You don’t love her like I thought you do. And today I will also take it out of you!."
Draven frowned and retaliated against Erebus’ attack. What was this maniac of a creature talking about? He thought as he countered another attack that was targeting his chest.
Erebus remained suspended in midair, crafting a black magic spell around his hands. "You’re so heartless to have dug the core out of your lovely wife just so you could fight me. Tsk, that poor girl must have gone through so much pain." He taunted to irk Draven, unknown to him that even Draven had no clue he had his core in his body.
Draven, just grasping the meaning behind Erebus’s words, looked stunned and taken aback. "What did you just say?"
Erebus grinned, evilness dancing in his red eyes, "I said I’ll dig out the core in your body today."
Draven’s complexion suddenly drained of color, his movements slowed down.
"What do you mean?" He couldn’t believe his ears and asked again, his tone grave and deliberate. How could his core be in his body when he had given it to his wife? Was Erebus making up things to distract him, because if that was the case, he was doing a really good job at distracting him!
Draven thought, however the memory of Lilac and Ethan arguing in their room echoed in his mind, where he overheard them mentioning something he wasn’t supposed to know. Could it be that that darn fairy had...
As those realizations dawned on Draven, a sharp pain cut into his heart like a sharp blade, he shook the pain off, sending an even stronger attack to Erebus as his mind tried to decipher the thoughts that had just formed in his mind. If his core was in his body, then what about his wife? How did she even manage to trick him?!
Realizing the gravity of the situation and the condition his wife must be in at this moment, Draven turned around, attempting to bypass Erebus and return home.
At this moment, nothing else mattered to him but the image of her he had in his mind, healthy and happy just as she’d always been.
Nothing must happen to his wife!
The world could die for all he cares, his wife’s life meant everything to him!
However, Erebus had no intention of letting Draven escape the fight now that he knew the core was in his body. He released his black magic spell, ensnaring Draven within it while he laughed like a possessed beast.
Furious at being stopped from leaving, Draven gathered ice magic in his palms, the strength of a thousand frost dragons clashed against Erebus’s magic. It shattered Erebus’s initial spell. Instantly, Erebus conjured another, preventing Draven from leaving. The second spell descended from the sky, it was even more formidable than the first.
Draven tried to control his raging emotions, the realization that Rhea’s life was slowly slipping away without the core bit sharper than a stake to his heart.
Now with the core in his grasp, Erebus wasn’t about to let Draven walk away freely. And the more time he wasted in getting back to his wife, the more he was losing her. He had to return the core to her before it was too late!
