Bound To The Ice Dragon King -
Chapter 159: He needed her!
Chapter 159: He needed her!
After the night Draven kissed Rhea in the healing pool, she no longer came across Draven again, even when she went to soak in the pool every single day, and sometimes at night. Actually, she was a bit disappointed whenever she went there and even looked underwater to check for him, but in the end, he wasn’t there.
The night he had kissed her, she had been angry with him and at herself for easliy going immobile from his mere touch and allowing him to kiss her, when they were nothing but friends.
Draven liked her no more than a friend and an ally, Rhea was aware, but beyond that, he felt nothing for her. She, on the other hand, was already in serious danger of falling in love with him. But he didn’t want her love. He’d told her that in the plainest possible terms, he had said he would never love, and she wasn’t allowed to let herself fall for him.
For months she’d been trying to convince herself that what she felt for Draven was nothing but friendship, but she’d realized weeks ago that it had already gone much deeper than that. Why else would she feel the burning need to see him succeed and avenge his enemies? Why else would she have experienced such rage when he kissed her knowing it wasn’t out of love but his male temptation, as Lilac would say?
Although, Rhea had more matters to worry about, she was on the process of healing so she could start with the process of bone changing, which Draven was supposed to guide her to, but he hadn’t given her the time to think for herself, because her entire thoughts had been on him ever since they’d shared such passionate kiss in the pool.
If she didn’t get stronger, how else would she be able to avenge Cal and make Oriana pay for her crimes? She needed to focus on those matters, but the fact that she hadn’t seen Draven for four days was now occupying her entire mind. He hadn’t come to check on her like he used to do before.
Lilac had told her yesterday that she saw Draven going out with prince Zachary, they were dressed in formal attires, and she’d also said that Draven looked like a king in his attire. But yet, he hadn’t come to check on her...
In four days that had passed, Lilac had made a lot of friends by roaming around the palace making servants and workers happy. She made children laugh with just the way she spoke, and in return she got to eat their satisfaction. It was like she was making up for the past decades she’d missed among people, she only remember to come to Rhea when she heard an interesting gossip to share with her. If not, she wouldn’t even bother to come around, thus, Rhea was usually left alone with nothing to do but to soak in the pool or to look through the weird ancient book Ethan had given her about changing bones, which she understood nothing of.
Another two days passed without seeing Draven. Rhea decided to mustered the courage to approach Prince Zachary and ask him of Draven’s whereabouts, not because she missed him or anything, but because he had volunteered to be her guardian and change her bones himself, but instead he hadn’t showed up.
If he wouldn’t show up, why volunteer instead of allowing Ethan to do it? Sometimes, she just couldn’t understand how his head works! He kissed her without warning, and yet he avoided her for it as if she was the one at fault.
Rhea made her way towards Prince Zachary’s chamber, and fortunately, she discovered him standing on the balcony of the ice stairs that led to his chamber. Standing beside him was a man she recognized as his brother, Prince Zade.
Although Rhea knew that the prince didn’t seem to like her, she also knew that he was a friend of Draven. If no one knew of Draven’s whereabouts, Prince Zachary should have some information since they were friends. Taking a deep breath, Rhea approached the two tall, intimidating, and handsome men on the balcony.
As if they sensed her approaching, both men turned to look at her simultaneously. In that moment, she suddenly felt small as their piercing eyes gazed down at her.
Rhea curtsied, "Good day, Your Highnesses," she greeted with a faint smile, concealing her anxiety.
Prince Zade responded with a warmer smile, while Prince Zachary barely acknowledged her with a nod and asked what she wanted, his displeasure with her presence evident. Well, she couldn’t blame him; he was simply looking out for his friend and didn’t want him to repeat past mistakes, which she would have liked to assure him not to worry, because there was nothing of the sort between she and Draven.
However, Rhea had no intention of wasting their time, so she got straight to the point. "Your Highness, I was hoping you could inform me of Draven’s whereabouts. We have important matters to attend to, but I couldn’t find him anywhere in this vast palace."
"I don’t believe Draven would appreciate you seeking him out. He is not in a condition to attend to any matters with you, young lady," Prince Zachary assured in a flat tone, clearly indicating his desire to have nothing to do with her.
However, Rhea was only concerned about Draven and disregarded his tone. She narrowed her eyes, "Not in a condition to attend to any matters? What do you mean, Your Highness? Is something wrong with him?" she questioned.
"Nothing for you to worry about. Draven will approach you when he is ready. But for now, I advise you to return to your chamber and ensure you do not leave tonight," the prince continued to explain upon seeing the frown on Rhea’s face. "Tonight is the red moon night, and it is not advisable for a human to venture out when the moon is red. Unmated savage dragons, in a state of anger due to not finding their female mates, may attack. So, if you would kindly excuse us, we would like to resume our discussion before you interrupted."
Rhea understood she was being dismissed. Without waiting to ask any further questions, she left the princes to continue their conversation. However, she couldn’t help but think that something was wrong with Draven that the Prince was not going to tell her.
Nonetheless, Rhea suddenly felt angry at the fact that something was wrong with Draven, but he didn’t think to come to her and let her know, and instead choose to avoid her like she’d done something wrong to him.
Rhea returned to her room while angrily slamming the door close behind her. Draven was a jerk! He had kissed her with so much passion that had made her think about him all night that day. Although, they had kissed before, it was nothing closer to that kiss, it was a kiss that was strong enough to make her melt in his arm, and if it hadn’t been for the thought that he would never love her that crossed her mind, she would have allowed him do more than kiss her that night.
He was taking advantage of her when he would never return her feelings. And right now, she was mad that he was avoiding her when he had given his words to guide her into changing her bones.
Rhea sighed in frustration, he could avoid her all he wanted, anyway he wouldn’t leave the dragon realm and would definitely not leave her behind. Rhea touched her chest, after all, she still had his core. It might be that right now, she didn’t trust anyone, but she trusted Draven, she trusted him enough not to abandon her here. He would surely come to her when he was done with whatever was wrong with him.
Rhea sat on her bed and took the ancient book Ethan had given her. She blankly stared at the foreign language written on it, but just then, she heard some noise from her window and swirled her head around only to see Lilac struggling to climb in through the window.
Lilac hadn’t grown used to houses and buildings, as in their realm there were nothing like doors and windows, she didn’t care where the main entrance was as long as there was a convenient entrance, it was enough for her, she liked using the windows even though she’d have to struggle to climb up.
Rhea observed the girl struggling to get inside through the window. Wouldn’t it have been easier if Lilac just simply walked around to the door instead of going through such difficulty to climb up with those tiny legs? However, before Rhea could suggest this, the small creature finally managed to make it inside.
Rhea turned her attention back to the book in her hand and questioned, "Why are you here? If you’re here to bring more gossip about a female servant being involved with one of the guards, I’m not interested. You can go back to wherever you came from."
"Aiya, my savior, isn’t you wondering where mister has been all those days?"
Rhea didn’t put down the book and pretended like she didn’t care, but her heart skipped a beat at the mention of Draven’s whereabout.
Lilac grinned and put her tiny hands inside her dress pocket before saying, "Myself just sighted him a moment ago."
Rhea found herself asking before she even realized it, "Where did you see him?"
Lilac smirked devilishly and raised her brow, "Isn’t you not in the mood for gossip? Myself will not disturb you and return to the room, as the prideful prince has said that no female should step out because of the red moon night." Saying this, Lilac turned on her heels, but before she could make it to the window, Rhea leapt up and grabbed her wings.
"Tell me where he is or I will rip off your wings!" Rhea threatened impatiently. She didn’t care about some stupid red moon night, she just wanted to make sure that Draven was alright and not in any bad condition as Prince Zachary made it sound.
Lilac gasped at the mention of her wings, she quickly said, "Fine, myself will tell!" She pouted as Rhea released her wings, "Myself sighted him outside the palace in the frozen forest. Mister was looking very pale and was clutching his chest as he ran into the forest. That is all myself saw and ran here to tell you."
Rhea suddenly felt dreadful, he wasn’t alright. She had to find him and see what was wrong with him. Draven needed her. She needed to go to him!
Rhea leapt up and ran towards the door, she heard Lilac yelling, "My savior, you can not go out, it is nightfall!" However, Rhea didn’t stop, she swung the door open and ran out.
