Bound To The Ice Dragon King -
Chapter 150: I will never let you go
Chapter 150: I will never let you go
Draven looked around the scenery for a long time, this place used to be his home. He grew up here, he had a lot of unforgettable memories in this castle, but everything was destroyed twenty years ago, and now he found himself back in it...
He looked down at the woman in front of him, she had that innocent smile that would have made his heart flutter in the past.
Alina raised her hands to fix his shirt buttons, "You’re looking at me strangely, what happened? Did your friends try to talk you out of marrying me again? Is that why you look upset?" She asked, then smiled, "Don’t let their words get to you, tommorow is our wedding day, you should focus on that instead of them. Aren’t you excited about tommorow, my love?" She asked, grinning as she fixed his buttons.
That’s right. He recalled this scene from twenty years ago. Alina had slept in his room for the first time, and they’d planned to go out together today, she talked to him about how excited she was about their wedding while she helped him dress up instead of the maids. Back then, he was so overjoyed to have her dress him up and even slept in his bed.
But what the hell was he doing back in the past?
When Draven didn’t reply to Alina and was busy wondering what he was doing here, Alina slipped her arms around his waist and hugged him. Draven stiffened, he had the urge to push her away from him, but she spoke,
"I can’t wait to be your wife, and I can’t wait to bear your children."
In the past when Alina had said those words, his heart had overflowed with love and happiness, he’d thought his life was about to be complete, he’d imagined their future children with Alina and smiled like a fool. He was so happy that he didn’t look like a dragon who’d lived for centuries, he was just like a foolish groom about to marry the woman he loved.
He recalled how they had lay in bed and talked about how many children they’d have and the names they’d give them. He was so fascinated about the thought of his future family that he couldn’t sleep on the night before their wedding day.
That was the past him, the innocent Draven in love. This Draven couldn’t be easily swayed into lies, this wasn’t real, he knew it.
Draven raised his hands and finally grasped Alina’s shoulders, he pushed her away from him and looked down at her, "Excited to marry you? So you can stab me in the heart and pierce out my core? So you could make your lover an immortal?" He questioned coldly.
But Alina frowned as if she had no idea what he was saying, she even let out a cry to show that he was hurting her with his tight grip on her shoulders, "You are hurting me," she cried, "I have no idea what you’re saying, you’re the only man I love, and why should I want your core?"
Draven coldly laughed, "How I wish this was real, I’d have killed you with my own hands right now." With that, he grabbed Alina’s neck with one hand and lifted her off her feet. She tried to struggle, but he tightened his hold around her neck.
"Too bad you’ve got the wrong man," he ripped off her head and the rest of her body burst into flowers. And immediately his surroundings changed back into that beautiful garden with trees and flowers. But everything was absolutely still, not even a bird could be seen in the clear sky.
Draven was about to walk forward when suddenly his surroundings changed into night, with a full moon in the sky. But when he looked around the place, his eyebrows rose in surprise.
In front of him was Rhea, who used her sword to block a shadow stalker’s hook from hitting him. She stood protectively in front of him. Draven’s heart skipped a beat as he remembered this memory in the border town when Rhea had left him but still returned in her night dress to save him from death.
"None of you will dare touch this man again!"
When Rhea said those words, Draven couldn’t help his eyes from softening. He walked up and stopped behind her, and without thinking, he hugged her from behind. She was startled by his actions and even tried to pull away, but he hugged her tight.
"Rhea, you are a brave woman." He whispered softly in her ear.
She stopped trying to move away from him and replied, "Yes, I know I am brave. But can you let go of me and stand behind so I can save you?"
Draven buried his head in the crook of her neck, "I can’t," he whispered against her skin, "I have to look for you first."
She was astonished and turned her head to the side, "Look for me? But I am right here."
Perhaps because Draven knew this Rhea wasn’t the present Rhea, he didn’t hide his emotions from her. He swiftly turned her around and kissed the side of her mouth, "I will find you and take away your sorrows, Rhea."
Before she could speak, Draven used his ice to strike her, and immediately her figure shattered into pieces.
Despite being aware that this was not real, Draven’s heart still felt unsettled upon witnessing Rhea’s image shatter in front of him. As she disappeared, his expression turned serious, and he raised his hand, summoning his ice powers onto his palm. Surveying his surroundings, he sensed someone’s presence hiding, the very person responsible for toying with his memories.
Coldly, he commanded, "Reveal yourself!"
The small figure concealed behind a tree shivered at the icy tone of his voice. Muttering something under it’s breath, the surroundings promptly changed once more.
Draven was surprised by the sudden transformation once more. He glanced upwards and observed the serene, blue sky, where birds gracefully soared and sang in the distance. The refreshing breeze carried the scent of spring and blooming flowers.
Taking in his surroundings, he came to the realization that he had been transported to Birhhan, the bustling capital city. People filled the streets, going about their daily routines. Laughter and conversations reached his ears as he caught sight of nobles riding in carriages and commoners selling their wares along the busy thoroughfares.
Draven walked around for awhile before he found himself standing in front of a humongous mansion with a sign that read, "The Villden household."
To save Rhea from getting lost in her own past memories, Draven stepped into the Villden mansion for the first time. The moment he entered, he saw two teenage girls running after each other in the courtyard.
"Delia get back here, give it back to me!" The one he recognized as Zoorah yelled as she ran after her younger sister. It seemed he was back in the past in Rhea’s memories when they were still teenagers. Draven thought as he strolled further into the expansive estate, noticing various other buildings on the mansion grounds besides the main mansion.
He kept going until he stumbled upon a rundown building labeled "Rheanna’s courtyard."
Draven entered the courtyard, but the moment he stepped in, something came flying towards his head, he quickly sidestep the object before it could meet his head. He then looked up to see who threw it.
Draven’s eyes slightly widened as he saw Rhea throwing objects, she looked completely out of place in this memory, but she didn’t seem to realize it and chased after a young man, who Draven recognized as the younger Cal. She was laughing and running after him in the courtyard.
"Cal, don’t let me catch you. How dare you say such thing to me?" She scolded.
"I’m just saying the fact, Rhea," Cal spoke as he ran towards Rhea to grab her arm so she wouldn’t throw anything at him again, "Rhea, don’t deny it, I know you like him. And I think he also likes you, he asked about you yesterday."
Draven noticed how Cal’s figure looks too pale to be true, while Rhea appeared more real, he didn’t have to think further to know that this Rhea was the present one in the past.
Rhea glared at Cal, "You speak nonsense, I don’t like Azure like you make it sound like, I only admire him that’s all."
It seemed like Rhea didn’t realize she was out of place in this unreal world, she didn’t seem to know its not real. After a moment of silence, she glanced up at Cal with a deep frown, "Cal, yesterday I had a terrible nightmare, I saw you die."
Cal scoffed and reassured her, "I will not die before you. I am your guardian, and I will live to see you get married and have kids. I cannot die and leave you at the mercy of your wicked siblings and stepmother. It’s just a nightmare." He gently patted her head. Trying to lighten her mood, he added, "I think Azure likes you. Do you like him?"
Rhea frowned and replied, "He is evil. Azure is not a good person."
Cal chuckled and said, "What? He saved your life a few days ago. How can you call him evil?"
Rhea seemed lost for a moment before saying, "Perhaps that was also a dream. But let’s not talk about Azure again. Let’s talk about something else, like the ball you promised to take me to!"
Cal smiled warmly at her excitement and held out his hand towards Rhea, saying, "Then let’s go out and buy you some clothes."
Rhea looked down at the hand he held out, she smiled and and reached out to take his hand, but just as she was about to take it, Draven swiftly grabbed her hand before she could reach for Cal’s.
She looked back at Draven, her smile hadn’t faded away yet, she glanced up at him with a look that appeared to be unrecognizable. It wasn’t until Draven called her name that her smile immediately vanished as if she was back to her senses.
"Let go of my hand," Rhea said coldly, "I want to stay here with Cal."
"You can’t stay here, it’s not real." He replied.
"I don’t care, I want to remain here. Release your grip on me, man!" She clenched her teeth.
Draven disregarded the sharpness in her tone, and he tightened his hold on her wrist. "I will not, because if I let go, you will lose yourself in your past, and the real you will get lost forever."
Rhea shook her head, her voice now trembling, as she pleaded, "I don’t care, I don’t feel any pain here. Please, let go of me."
"I will not let you go, Rhea. Never," he held her gaze with his blue eyes. He then continued, "Since the moment I met you, I have only brought you pain, and you have frustrated me more than anything else. And now..." He paused, gathering his thoughts. "I will never let you go, not even death can take you away from me. You do not belong here."
Tears streamed down her cheeks. "I don’t belong anywhere in this world, just let me stay here. I don’t want to go back," she sobbed. "This unreal world seems nice and peaceful. Cal is still alive. He wants to take me to a ball, and I want to go with him. I want to be here forever." She attempted to free herself from his grip, but he held on firmly.
"Rheanna," Draven softly called her, gripping her other hand as well, but she continued to struggle. "This world is not real. If you stay here for too long, you might perish."
"What does it matter if I perish!" Rhea finally yelled out. "I want to perish. I want to forget everything. I don’t want to go back. Why can’t you understand!"
Rhea began to kick at him, crying and struggling to break free. Draven’s gaze became intense, and without hesitation, he forcefully pulled her body into his arms, allowing her to do whatever she pleased. None of her actions, whether kicking or pushing, seemed to ease her anger. She even bit down on his chest with all her strength, holding nothing back.
Draven tightened his grip around her, embracing her tightly to his body, but she continued to bite harder until his chest began to bleed. He silently endured the pain, showing no signs of discomfort. The physical pain meant nothing compared to the emotional pain he felt seeing her in this state. He raised his hand and gently stroked her hair, even as her teeth remained firmly clamped on his flesh.
"You can bite me as hard as you want, and if it makes you feel better, you can even stab me. But no matter what, I will never let you go, Rhea."
