Bound To The Ice Dragon King
Chapter 131: Irreversible act

Chapter 131: Irreversible act

As the dragon continued to soar in the sky, nobody said anything, Ethan was too busy attending to Gail in front of him. While Draven was busy looking at Rhea in front of him. She didn’t look alright to him.

Rhea sat frozen in front of him, her hands shook uncontrollably, her gaze fixed on the blood staining her clothes and hands. She was motionless, unable to tear her eyes away from the horrifying sight. She’d seen blood before, but not of the person she’d come to like.

"Rhea, are you okay?" Draven asked softly.

Without warning, as if possessed, Rhea began to frantically wipe the blood off her hands with her trembling fingers. She rubbed them together forcefully, her panic growing with each unsuccessful attempt to rid herself of the gruesome stains.

Rhea’s breaths came out in rapid, shallow gasps as she stared at her hands, tears streaming down her face.

"It’s... it’s not cleaning!" Rhea hysterically cried.

Draven’s heart tightened, his concern deepening as he saw her distress. He quickly grabbed her hands from behind and stopped her from trying to wipe it off, his voice filled with concern.

"Rhea, it’s going to be okay. Let me help you."

Draven gently took her trembling hands in his own, his touch offering her some semblance of comfort amidst her messed up mind. With a steady and soothing voice, he tried to ground her.

"Take deep breaths, Rhea. You’re going to be alright. We’ll find a way to clean it once we get back."

Rhea’s panic began to subside, her grip on Draven’s hands relaxing slightly. She looked up at him, her eyes filled with a mix of fear and desperation.

"Draven...will she survive it?" She asked.

"I don’t know," he admitted. He had no idea how deep the wound was as Rhea had used her ice to cover it. But then to put her mind at ease, he assured, "She’ll be fine, don’t worry."

Rhea nodded, believing him that Gail would be alright. She believed it, because the black vapor around her body was only faint.

After a prolonged silence, Rhea finally spoke once more, her voice sounding more composed. "I haven’t seen you in all these days...not even a glimpse of you, but today you finally showed up before me. How did you know I was here?"

Draven glanced down at her, still clasping her small hands with his large ones from behind. He absentmindedly played with her slender fingers as he replied in an indifferent tone, "I checked your room and didn’t find you there, and I noticed your bed was neat, so I tracked down the core’s energy and knew you’re here."

Oh, right. She had almost forgotten that he had the ability to sense his other body parts no matter how far away they were, just like his core in her body. Rhea nodded. However, after a moment, she realized something and asked once again, "Why did you go to my room to see that I wasn’t there?"

Draven cleared his throat, "Nothing, I was just passing by and didn’t sense your presence in the room," he lied with a straight face. Then turned to look at the moon in the sky.

The truth was that he wasn’t just passing by her room; he knew all about her activities in the palace. Although Rhea had assumed he didn’t return to his own room to sleep, she was actually correct in that, but he did come back every night.

Over the past few months they had been together, Draven surprisingly became accustomed to sleeping in the same room as her. Whenever he slept alone, he would have nightmares and difficulty falling asleep. With his busy schedule training the soldiers, he needed as much rest as possible. So, after Rhea had fallen asleep, he would quietly enter her room. He would observe her sleeping, making sure she was covered properly, before settling down on the nearby couch and watching her until he eventually drifted off himself.

Every night, he’d come to her room without her knowledge and make sure to leave before she woke up in the morning. And just like every night, tonight he went to sleep, but found out she wasn’t in her room. He had panicked and looked around, then decided to track down the core, only to realize she was far away.

At first, he had thought that she had abandoned him and returned to the human world because he had requested her blood that day. He was filled with self-directed anger, and without any delay, he swore to bring her back, even if it required offering an apology. He had hurriedly made his way to Ethan’s room and forcefully shoved the innocent boy out of bed, urging him to get Nino because they were going to the human realm to bring back Rhea. It was only when they arrived at the mountain border and witnessed Rhea, her body covered in blood, that he finally realized she hadn’t deserted him after all.

When they reached the dragon realm, it was almost morning. Ethan immediately carried Gail to prince Zachary’s palace where she’d be treated. However, they hadn’t even reached her chamber when they saw Prince Zachary heading towards them.

Although Zack had a weak Dragon, his human body was as strong as any ordinary human, and his senses were as sharp as any other dragon. When he saw his younger brother carrying his foster daughter, he could already smell her blood from afar, his expression turned grave, and without wasting time, he turned to his right hand man,

"Hurry, get the old doctor immediately!" He ordered.

His right hand man transformed into his dragon form and flew away to get the doctor, while Ethan carried Gail into her chamber. Everyone followed behind Ethan, but Rhea stood outside near the open window of Gail’s room, her hands were still slightly trembling, but she no longer paid heed to the blood covering her body.

Draven also stayed behind with her as the doctor arrived. Everyone were worried about Gail, but Draven was worried about Rhea’s usual display of emotion. He rarely saw her worry about anybody like this, to the point of trembling.

After a long moment of silence, Draven decided to speak to distract her mind from the worries. "You nearly threw away your life for her, I never knew your bond with the doctor was that strong."

Rhea didn’t even look away from the window, her eyes were glued on the doctor inside the room who was treating Gail as she replied softly, "Even though I’ve only known her for a few weeks, I’ve unexpectedly grown attached to her. She’s a rare gem." Rhea continued, her voice filled with helplessness, "We had plans to go out today and explore the city together. She promised to show me her favorite places. But now, how can she take me when she’s fighting for her life in there..."

Draven gazed at Rhea’s worried expression and, after a moment of silence, blurted out, "Rhea, you have a good heart, the purest one in the whole world." He wasn’t trying to console her with empty words; he genuinely believed it. Not many people would willingly risk their lives for someone they barely knew. Rhea had done it for him countless times, and now she was doing it for Gail. Despite being treated like an outcast and being called names in the human realm, to him, Rhea stood out as the most pure-hearted among them.

Finally tearing her gaze from the window, Rhea looked at Draven without saying a word. Throughout her life, people had made her believe she was worthless and had an ugly heart. She had been referred to as a cursed seed. However, hearing someone declare that she had a good heart was a first for her.

Rhea had always lived recklessly, not caring about anyone or anything. She had behaved like a thug, ready to fight anyone who crossed her path. But she had never considered herself to be someone with a good heart.

Before Rhea could say anything, she was interrupted by Prince Zachary’s panicked voice, "She’s losing too much blood, do something damnit!"

Rhea hurriedly went inside to see what was happening. The bed Gail laid on was completely soaked in blood, the black vapor around her body was getting stronger and thicker. Rhea hugged her arms to her chest and stood by the side, for the first time in her life, she felt like throwing up at the sight of blood.

Rhea could no longer stand in the scene, thus, she hurried out of the room, brushing past Draven to go and wash herself to get rid of the stains and smell before she’d ended up throwing up all her guts.

In the blink of an eye, night fell and the moon rose in the sky. After Rhea had washed herself in the morning, she’d came back to see that Gail’s bleeding had stopped, and the doctor had declared that Gail would be fine. However, she might never be the same again as the flame sword had affected her ice system.

Furthermore, he let everyone know that Gail had been three mouths pregnant, but the baby couldn’t be saved from such injuries. Everyone had been surprised at the revelation of the pregnancy, but no one said a word against Gail, they all only looked relieved that she was fine.

Rhea took it upon herself to be the one to stay with her in the room until she was fully conscious. She was greatly relief to see that even the black vapor around Gail’s body was decreasing.

For two days, Rhea was the one caring for Gail after the doctor checked on her. She’d feed her medicine, despite being unconscious, Rhea would scold her for being stubborn to risk her life for love.

However, on the third day. Rhea was too exhausted from all the worries, she rested her head on the edge of the bed. And drifted into a restless sleep.

In the middle of the night, Rhea was jolted awake by a loud crashing sound. She quickly sat up. Her eyes darted around the room, searching for the source of the disturbance.

Nonetheless, Rhea’s gaze landed on the empty bed where Gail was supposed to be. To her astonishment, she found Gail sprawled on the floor close to the table. Tears stream down her face, her golden eyes were filled with pain and despair.

Gail’s body trembled, and it became apparent to Rhea that she was unable to walk as she frantically crawled closer to the table where a gleaming knife rested.

"Gail, no! Stop!"

Rhea immediately understood what Gail was about to do and lunged forward, her hands reaching out to stop her, but it was too late. In an agonizing moment, Gail’s trembling fingers wrap around the handle of the knife. With a swift motion, she brought it to her chest, piercing her own heart out.

Rhea’s eyes widened in horror and disbelief as she watched Gail commit this irreversible act. Time seemed to stand still as Gail’s body went limp, collapsing onto the floor.

Everything had happened so fast that Rhea didn’t even know when Prince Zachary and the rest rushed into the room, until she felt a hand come around her waist and pulled her into a familiar strong embrace. His muscling scent was so comforting she didn’t know when she allowed herself to fall into Draven’s embrace.
