Bound To The Ice Dragon King -
Chapter 129: The border mountain
Chapter 129: The border mountain
Rhea lay on the snowy ground for nearly an hour until her muscles finally relaxed. She managed to sit up, still feeling a slight numbness in her limbs. However, she realized that Gail could be in danger, so she stood up and started to follow Gail’s footprints in the snow.
It appeared that Gail was familiar with the paths, as they led her deep into the forest where she discovered a magical portal on a large tree. At first, she was hesitant about where it would take her, but she took a deep breath and entered.
To her surprise, the portal transported her out of the dragon realm and placed her next to the massive border mountain where Erebus was sealed. As soon as she left the dragon realm, she was overcome by intense heat, as if she had stepped into hell after being in paradise.
However, before Rhea could dwell on the heat, she noticed bright torches and heard voices coming from the other side of the mountain.
Without wasting any time, Rhea quickly removed her aura masker and tucked it into her dress pocket. She adjusted her dress to appear more human and began walking towards the commotion on the other side.
Rhea arrived at the side, her body already drenched in sweat and covered in dirt. Just as she emerged from the corner, someone shouted,
"Halt right there!"
Rhea immediately stopped, but a furrow appeared between her eyebrows when another person questioned,
"Is she another dragon?"
Another dragon? Rhea’s heart tightened at the thought. Could they have captured Gail?
"Who are you?!" the person demanded.
Despite her racing heart, Rhea maintained a calm and composed demeanor. She quickly feigned panic, mirroring the behavior of the others in the vicinity. "Sir, I came here with a friend. He wanted to show me what it’s like at the border mountain. But when I heard the commotion, I couldn’t stay at the camp. I thought I should come and see what was happening," she lied innocently.
Rhea had chosen her words carefully, aware that it was common for ordinary humans to wander off out of curiosity.
"Are you one of the people wandering around this afternoon?" he asked.
Rhea nodded hastily, not caring whom he was referring to. "Yes, I am." She answered relived that the border soldiers had no idea of her reputation nor who she was from her looks, and thankfully it was night for them to even see her face clearly.
"We told you all to go back to town where you’d be safe, didn’t we? These days, it’s not safe around here. The dragons are encroaching on our land, and we need to eliminate them before the war. You should go back now, young lady, before you find yourself in danger," he advised.
Rhea nodded, seizing the opportunity to ask her own question. "Was a dragon caught here tonight?"
"Yes," he responded with pride, "we successfully captured a female dragon only moments ago. She displayed aggression and tragically killed three of our comrades. Thankfully, Lady Oriana and Elliot managed to bring the beast down."
Rhea’s heart dropped as soon as she heard those words. Elliot...his name had been haunting her thoughts recently. The man for whom Gail had taken such a dangerous journey to meet.
No, this wasn’t good at all.
Rhea noticed that the soldiers no longer paid anymore attention to her after their warning, thus she quietly walked to the other side where she’d noticed the bright torches.
When she got there, she found soldiers and fire controllers crowded in the place with bright torches, bright enough to make the area looked like day time. Rhea blended into the ground of people, and used the person in front of her to block her view, she also kept her head down to avoid being recognized by someone in the crowd.
However, from her position, she could clearly see what was happening in the middle.
Rhea’s heart thightened as she saw Gail in her Dragon form chained to the ground. If it wasn’t for her golden eyes, and strands of blondish little hairs on the dragon head, Rhea would have doubted it was Gail, who had just come out here an hour ago. The dragon looked badly injured, a deep wound on the side of its head, and blood rolling out from its mouth.
She looked like a trapped monster, with faint icy fog surging from her body, her golden eyes glowed in the dark, her long claws were stained with blood, and her chest heaved with rapid breaths. Even the chains trapping her down were burning hot. But despite being In her dragon form, Rhea could see the anger and despair in her golden eyes.
Rhea gritted her teeth. At this point, she couldn’t blame Gail nor get angry at her for risking her life to come out here. The deed had been done, she could only blame the vile humans for being heartless enough to capture an innocent being who had done nothing wrong to anyone.
Right in front of Gail was Oriana, who had a red hat veil covering her entire face. Occasionally, a breeze would lift the fabric slightly, revealing Oriana’s disfigured face that Draven had ruined at the inn that day.
Oriana’s face had scabbed over, creating a messy grid-like appearance. In that moment, Rhea found her to be a frightening monster, but she felt it was deserved.
However, it seemed due to her disfigurement, she’d lost her usual arrogance and now only displayed harshness and rage as she spoke.
"My aunt assigned me here in her place because she’s busy, but she warned me to tell you all that we must not allow any Dragons near this mountain cave. It is forbidden, and with the upcoming war, the dragons will want to unseal the forbidden magic for their own purposes. Erebus is pure evil, and they want to bring chaos back to our world!"
Upon hearing those words, Rhea became apprehensive. She couldn’t tell if Alina had informed her niece about the story involving Draven and her betrayal, but it was now evident that Alina was wary of Draven. She wasn’t as calm and collected as he had believed. She was on high alert for his revenge, otherwise, why would she instruct her niece to keep an eye on the mountain?
Oriana continued, "I didn’t think that any Dragon would be daring enough to come here tonight to break the seal. If we hadn’t stopped this beast on time, she’d have unsealed evil to the world!" She turned to Gail and glared harshly at her, "Now speak! Did your king send you to break the seal? What are the dragons planning to do with Erebus’ powers?!" She demanded.
Rhea thought those words were so stupid for someone who was the relative of the mastermind behind using Erebus’ powers in secret, to ask.
Gail probably had no idea there were any black powers in that cave. She was just here for one reason, a reason that was so harmless to anyone. Love.
As expected, Gail did not respond; her golden eyes nervously scanned the surrounding crowds. Eventually, they settled on a particular man who stood a few steps behind Oriana. He was dressed in a simple black outfit, with hair as dark as the night, and possessed strikingly handsome features. He was tall and muscular. Rhea squinted at the man and observed his gray eyes.
Rhea’s eyes slightly widened as realisation drawn on her. That man was Elliot!
If it hadn’t been for Gail’s intense gaze and that Gail had told her countless times that her Elliot had the most beautiful gray eyes in the world, Rhea wouldn’t have believed that this was the man her new friend had claimed was deeply in love with her. He stood there, devoid of any emotions, silently positioned behind Oriana.
He remained silent, not uttering a single word. However, Rhea noticed something: his fists were tightly clenched at his sides, even trembling slightly, yet his expression remained impassive.
Oriana suddenly let out a cold laughter that broke the silence in the area, "The beast isn’t speaking, but it’s okay, we don’t need it to speak. We will kill it and send it to hell!"
At Oriana’s words, all the fire controllers around began to prepare their flame spell. The spell shone bright and hot on the ground and stopped where Gail was chained to the ground, it formed a circle around her, making her a prisoner inside.
Rhea’s hands curled into fists, she began to make her plans before the spell would finish, she needed to get Gail out of there.
However, at that moment, Gail began to panic as the spell started to circle her, she roared loudly and began to struggle with the chains. The more she struggled, the more she bleed.
To everyone’s surprise, Gail’s sharp gaze turned towards Elliot once again. Despite being in her Dragon form, she spoke, calling out his name, "Elliot, you disappointed me. I came here for you, just to see you. I foolishly put myself in danger for you, but..."
Before Gail could finish speaking, murmurings erupted in the surroundings. The greatest taboo of this generation was the love between a dragon and a human, particularly a fire controller and a dragon.
Gail’s eyes, previously filled with fear, now held contempt and sorrow. Her anger was solely directed at Elliot as she yelled, "I loved you with all my heart and waited for you every day, just like you asked. But did you truly love me or think of me as much as I did?!"
Finally, Elliot looked up at her. He opened his mouth to speak, uttering only one sentence, "Humans and outcasts can never coexist."
Gail let out another powerful roar.
Oriana burst into laughter, finding the situation amusing. "Love? How can a creature devoid of emotions know love? You are nothing but evil! Creatures like you deserve death."
Gail paid no attention to Oriana, keeping her gaze fixed solely on Elliot. Her voice strained, she asked, "Elliot, do you also believe that? Were you merely playing with my emotions all this time for your own amusement?" When he didn’t respond, she continued, "You...you once confessed your love to me under the moonlight, that night...you even..." She couldn’t bring herself to finish her sentence.
For the first time, Rhea witnessed a dragon shedding tears. Rhea’s fists clenched as Elliot remained silent, offering no defense for Gail. He watched as Oriana raised her hand and hurled a fireball at Gail’s head.
Immediately, Gail’s face contoured in extreme pain. But Rhea noticed something, Elliot’s eyes slightly shook, his eyes trembled repeatedly as if he was trying to hold back his emotions.
Gail stared at him, tears streaming down her face. She uttered, "Elliot, I never imagined a day would come when I’d say this to you...you are heartless, and I despise you for it. I risked my life to come here and share what I believed would be the happiest news of our lives," she paused, then continued, "But now, I think I’d rather carry this news to my grave! And I will make sure you suffer before I die!"
Amidst her despair, a murderous aura began to emanate from her.
