Chapter 138: 118. A Slap Shattered the New Marriage_2
Even if it gets out, what then?
I chose such a man to be my spouse; I’m bound to become the subject of gossip among my colleagues, who will talk behind my back.
How can I continue to work at Nanhu University when I’ll be pointed at and whispered about daily?
The same thing still holds true: I’ve grown accustomed to living in the ivory tower, I’m not good at fighting, and I don’t know the art of it.
The reason Ying Kai chose Guo Minjie as a partner for a sham marriage was partly because a man who’s risen through the ranks needs to maintain a stable, married image, and partly because he’s betting on her timid nature.
She didn’t have the courage to make a fuss, nor did she understand any cunning maneuvers; this job was equally important to her.
But now, she seemed to have changed.
She had gained a bit more confidence; where did it come from?
"Xiao Min, you don’t think making a big deal out of this will be of any benefit to you, do you?"
Ying Kai lowered his voice and took another look at Lu Jincheng beside him, speaking earnestly.
"And don’t try to intimidate me with that. I have friends in the cyber affairs department, your stuff won’t even get out."
The bearded man finally dropped his mask. The hypocritical smile gradually disappeared from the corners of his mouth, and he sat upright, his gaze fixed intently on the two opposite him.
"You don’t think that just because you’ve called a student who runs an MCN studio to back you up, you can freely defame a state official online, do you?"
Ying Kai’s look was indifferent; his voice shrill and thin, he crossed his arms and posed confidently.
"Believe it or not, I’ll sue you for slander!"
"...?"
Guo Min Jie instinctively glanced at the silent Lu Jincheng beside her.
She knew Ying Kai, as a leader and a local from Jiang City, had connections in all kinds of departments.
Friends in the cyber affairs department, so my stuff about him can’t get posted?
Meaning, he’s not scared of my bluff at all!
What Lu Jincheng said doesn’t match the situation...
He’s even threatening me now!
What do I do next?
"Xiao Min, stop this nonsense; it’s useless. Come home with me."
Ying Kai seemed to see through Guo Min Jie’s faux toughness. He nonchalantly sipped his coffee, looked down, and stood up to reach for Guo Min Jie’s arm.
But in the next second, his hand was slapped away by the man opposite him.
"Xiao Lu, what do you mean by this?"
When his hand was pushed aside and he failed to touch Guo Min Jie, Ying Kai’s face changed, and he shot Lu Jincheng a sharp glance.
What’s any of this got to do with you?
"Get the hell out of here, and stop talking crap. Bring your household register and go to the civil affairs bureau with her tomorrow."
Lu Jincheng remained seated, calm and composed, speaking as usual.
He had been listening quietly to the side for quite some time, originally thinking that with his guidance Guo Min Jie would be sufficient.
But in the end, Ying Kai still managed to control the situation.
"Do you even realize what you are saying?"
Ying Kai responded with a forced laugh, pointing his finger at Lu Jincheng, thinking that these new students really didn’t have a clue.
"I’m telling you to get lost, don’t you understand?"
The corners of Lu Jincheng’s mouth twitched slightly as he faced Ying Kai’s astonished look.
"You say that again..."
Ying Kai seemed to be getting angry, his thick left index finger pointing at Lu Jincheng’s face, getting closer and closer.
He had never seen such a disrespectful student.
"Keep your damn fingers to yourself."
Lu Jincheng suddenly stood up, and before Ying Kai could react, his left arm swept through the air in an arc.
Slap!
A crisp sound echoed through the coffee shop.
Five fingerprint marks appeared on Ying Kai’s round face.
The heavy slap nearly sent Ying Kai’s black-framed glasses flying.
"Your ass is almost torn apart by others, I gave you face so you could divorce with some dignity, you don’t appreciate it, and have the guts to talk back?"
"And bringing up such-and-such department, what, is that department your daddy, wiping your ass every day, not afraid of leaking to the side?"
"Do you really think I need to waste studio resources to trash you online?"
"Do you even deserve it?"
All Ying Kai felt was dizziness; he was so stunned by the slap that for a few seconds he couldn’t recover, and just as he was about to retaliate, he was held down by several men.
"The Student Union is all my people. Guess what the reaction will be if tomorrow the broadcasting station’s key goes missing, and I announce over the loudspeaker to all teachers and students that you’re a promiscuous mother bear?"
Ying Kai had never expected this turn of events, and couldn’t help but widen his eyes.
Lu Jincheng’s barrage was rapid and dense, and before Ying Kai could continue with any retaliatory action, he had already dismissed the idea.
"I’ll say whatever the hell I want. What can you do about it?"
The green shoots fear the frost, and the frost fears the sun; the wicked are ground by their own.
Lu Jincheng was neither a faculty member of Nanhu University’s official payroll nor any sort of respectable person who needed to consider his reputation.
He had no identity restrictions and held the channels to speak out, almost possessing unlimited firepower.
Completely unlike Guo Minjie, Lu Jincheng feared neither heaven nor earth, acted without restraint, and had no bottom line in his behaviour.
He peppered his speech with swear words and even dared to hit teachers.
With such a person, could Ying Kai not be afraid?
The most critical point was, Ying Kai also had no effective means to counter Lu Jincheng.
School rules?
Lu Jincheng was precisely the entrepreneurial hotshot in the eyes of the university leaders, and besides, he didn’t have the power anyway.
Playing the victim?
It was just a slap, and furthermore, if he really called the police, the incident would inevitably become public.
Fighting back?
That was even less likely, and I don’t know what was wrong with this coffee shop, as several male waiters sprang up and took sides!
No one stopped Lu Jincheng, allowing him to curse away.
"I’m asking you one more time, are you going to the civil affairs bureau or not? If not, you’ll surely hit the front-page news tomorrow."
"Your chat logs, not only will I play them on the school’s loudspeakers in rotation, I’ll also publicly execute you in front of your entire online following. Believe it or not?"
This time it was Lu Jincheng pointing at him.
Mr. Lu’s face was full of disdain, his finger almost poking Ying Kai’s nose.
"I’m going to count to three."
"Three."
"Two."
"Okay, okay, I agree, I agree."
Ying Kai lowered his head, his eyes downcast, his gaze dim, like a plucked rooster.
"Please don’t send it out, I will go to the civil affairs bureau first thing tomorrow when they open."
He could think of no other way out and had to concede.
"Get lost."
Lu Jincheng clapped his hands and gestured toward the entrance of the coffee shop.
Ying Kai sidled from his seat, covering his face, and left the coffee shop in embarrassment.
"That... Is it resolved just like that?"
Guo Minjie was stunned for a good ten seconds before coming to her senses.
Mr. Lu’s slap not only swelled Ying Kai’s face but also jolted Guo Minjie awake.
The domestic problem she had struggled with for so long was almost effortlessly resolved by Lu Jincheng, leaving her dazed.
Lu Jincheng was relentlessly dominant, not bothering to reason, keeping the pressure on throughout.
He rained down curses in a storm, and if you disagreed, you’d get a smack.
After hitting, he then told him he must do as commanded, or else he’d make sure to destroy him.
The essential point was that his rough method was extremely effective, subduing Ying Kai completely, leaving him unable to utter a word of rebuttal.
Even the audience found it entertaining, and although one of the involved parties had left, many eyes were still peeking over here.
"Shall we change the venue?"
Guo Minjie couldn’t withstand the focus of the onlookers’ gazes.
A table setup of two men and a woman, with one man suddenly standing up to violently slap another man—that’s a spectacle worthy of scrutiny in any setting.
Was it a woman juggling two men, or a mistress clashing with the official wife?
"Sure, let’s also celebrate."
Lu Jincheng nodded and walked toward the exit.
"Celebrate what?"
Guo Minjie blinked her eyes.
"Celebrating your joyful divorce and return to singlehood," Lu Jincheng said with a smile.
"What’s there to celebrate."
Guo Minjie followed out of the coffee shop, pursing her lips, and said softly.
Today, the counselor was dressed in a blue maxi skirt with a matching half-length sleeve on top, and six-centimeter pumps clacked crisply and melodically on the path.
Her hair wasn’t tied up high as usual; she obviously had styled it deliberately, making herself look much more charming.
Possibly due to the recent marital troubles, she seemed to have lost some weight, and her clothes were more figure-hugging than before.
Revealing a slim waistline that Mr. Lu had never noticed before.
"Life is beginning anew," Lu Jincheng said, slowing his pace, his tone meaningful.
"Isn’t that worth celebrating?"
