Born To Rise In Konoha -
Chapter 123
Chapter 123: Chapter 123
Saitama subconsciously touched the shinobi blade at his waist and turned to ask Yuuki, who looked a bit embarrassed.
"Oh, I just ran into a squad from Kirigakure, but we managed to take care of them," she replied.
Yu Nushi adjusted her nose-tip sunglasses slightly, and the two ninja behind her—also wearing sunglasses—remained silent. Even so, Saitama could sense their curious gazes lingering on him.
"Alright then, head to the rear and get some rest. We’ll continue the patrol," Saitama said with a wave of his hand. They had a mission to complete—there was no time to linger.
"Okay!" the group responded, passing by quickly.
"Be careful ahead—the border’s close," Saitama warned.
The border with the Land of Bears was long, and while the main conflict was centered near the coast, skirmishes frequently broke out in remote areas. Most of these were infiltration missions that resulted in sudden clashes.
Saitama’s team was tasked with patrolling one such area today. Just a few days ago, they had been assigned to the front lines to handle fortifications. Today’s assignment was thanks to Tsunade’s rotation strategy—after periods of heavy combat, her distribution system ensured leaf ninja got a break through lower-intensity patrols.
Of course, that "break" only held if they didn’t encounter enemy forces.
"Woosh!"
Figures darted through the trees in silence. Saitama’s team advanced swiftly toward their designated patrol zone.
After a while, a subtle noise caught Saitama’s ear. The chakra he sensed ahead was unfamiliar—not from the Leaf.
"Stop," he ordered, raising his left hand. His three-man team immediately dropped into position on the branches, fully alert.
"There’s movement ahead," Saitama said, confirming their suspicions.
"Get ready to fight."
Electricity crackled faintly around his calf as Saitama leapt forward. Confidence born from strength—no hesitation.
"Woosh!"
Bursting through the canopy, Saitama spotted a battle up ahead. Three Mist shinobi were surrounding a single Konoha ninja, who was clearly overwhelmed and barely holding on.
With a flash of Lightning Release, Saitama kicked off a branch and rocketed forward into the fray!
"Chhk!"
A lightning-charged slash cleaved the air—one enemy’s throat was sliced open before he could even react. Blood sprayed into the foliage.
"What the—!?" The remaining two Mist-nin immediately disengaged and retreated several meters, eyes wary.
"Konoha’s Lightning Blade...?" one of them gasped, recognizing Saitama.
His partner’s expression darkened with dread. "It’s Uchiha Saitama..."
Whispers of Saitama’s battlefield feats had spread among the enemy ranks. In past battles, his strikes had overwhelmed squads of Mist-nin with ruthless efficiency. The only ones who could contest him were members of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist. Even then, it was said that during a recent clash, Saitama had seriously injured Mangetsu Hōzuki—a swordsman-in-training. If not for the intervention of Kushimaru Kuriare and Jinpachi Munashi, Saitama might’ve killed him outright.
In that battle, Saitama had taken a deep abdominal wound from Kushimaru’s weapon. But even injured, he had pushed back the enemy and inflicted serious casualties.
Now, lightning crackled once more around Saitama’s blade as he advanced slowly on the remaining two Mist-nin, his footsteps eerily quiet.
"You’re Uchiha Saitama...?" the wounded Konoha ninja asked, breathless. Relief spread across his face. With Saitama here, he might survive.
But the Mist-nin glanced at the corpses of their comrades. Their eyes turned grim.
"Get ready," Saitama said coldly. "Fight—or die."
The ninja who first recognized him barked at his companion, "We’ve got no choice—stand your ground!"
The second Mist-nin clenched his teeth, sweat beading on his brow. Escape was impossible. They’d have to fight.
"Now!"
With a shout, the first Mist-nin lunged toward Saitama.
His companion followed a beat later... only to veer away in an instant.
He turned and ran at full speed, chakra exploding from his body as he fled—leaving his comrade behind.
"Hmph..." Saitama’s lips curled upward into a faint smirk. "Coward."
With a burst of lightning, he disappeared from view, leaving a shallow crater where he’d stood.
"You—!" the abandoned Mist-nin stared in disbelief as his companion vanished into the distance.
Before he could even finish the thought, a flash of blue and white overtook the fleeing enemy.
"Chhk!"
The man’s head rolled across the forest floor. Saitama turned toward the final enemy.
"Don’t—!"
Saitama didn’t wait. His blade moved again. Another corpse fell.
"Captain!" Uchiha Huo arrived a moment too late, alongside his younger brother.
Saitama stood in the clearing, calmly wiping blood off his blade before returning it to his waist.
"Is he alright?" Huo asked, walking up to the wounded Konoha ninja, who was cradling a badly injured left arm. Blood dripped steadily.
"I’m fine, I’m fine," the ninja muttered. He wiped sweat from his brow and lifted his arm to examine the damage.
Saitama stepped beside him, glancing over at another fallen Konoha shinobi nearby.
"He’s not dead. Head back to camp immediately—there’s still a chance to save him," Saitama said.
The wounded ninja’s eyes widened. "Really?"
He hurried over to the body Saitama had indicated. Saitama followed, crouching beside the unconscious ninja.
"His heart’s not hit," Saitama said. "Just missed it."
"Thank God..." the surviving ninja whispered. He checked the pulse at the man’s neck and sighed in relief.
"I know a bit of medical ninjutsu. I’ll stabilize him for now."
Saitama knelt beside the injured man, motioning for the other ninja to make space. He carefully laid the unconscious shinobi flat on the ground.
"Oh—yes, of course!" the ninja replied, stepping back.
Saitama placed one hand over the man’s chest. As his chakra flowed into the wound, a soft green glow enveloped his palm.
"—Tch."
A strained sound escaped from the unconscious man’s throat as Saitama applied healing chakra, but he didn’t stir.
The glow grew brighter, slowly closing the wound as the tension in the air began to ease.
