Chapter 269: Jean
Chapter 269: Chapter 269: Jean
Peter’s face reddened slightly, but he didn’t back down. "Yeah. She’s kind. She’s not someone who deserves to be hurt."
Aurora smiled knowingly. "Ah, I see. You think she’s your ’savior,’ don’t you? That’s why you can’t even consider hurting her."
Peter immediately froze, his face paling. "Wha—What are you saying?"
Aurora let out a soft chuckle. "Oh, Peter. I didn’t realize you had such strong feelings for her." She could see his discomfort, and she found it a little amusing.
Peter’s face darkened further, his jaw tightening. "That’s none of your business."
Aurora leaned forward, still smiling. "Well, Peter, I just wanted to test your feelings. I didn’t really want to harm Adriana. It’s just... You’re so protective of her. I wanted to see how far you’d go to defend her."
Peter’s face turned bright red as the realization hit him. He had just been played by Aurora.
His fists clenched, and he took a deep breath. "You’re messing with me. This is not funny."
Aurora laughed lightly. "Oh, Peter, don’t be so serious. I won’t harm Adriana. She is someone I too, want to protect."
After a moment, Peter let out a long sigh, relieved that there wasn’t any hostility between them.
"Alright, Ms. Dawn," Peter said, his voice now much more relaxed.
"I’ll admit, you got me there. But if you’re asking me to be on your side, you don’t have to worry. I’ll back you up... but, of course, I have my limits. I just don’t want things to go too far, you know?"
Aurora chuckled softly at how protective Peter was, and it made her feel a bit more delighted.
She found it interesting how deeply Peter cared about Adriana, and even though he was a little hot-headed, it showed his loyalty.
She nodded at him, her calm demeanor never fading.
"Don’t worry, Peter," she said. "I’m not planning on crossing any lines. But there are other things I’d like to discuss."
Peter raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. "Other things? What’s on your mind, Ms. Dawn?"
Aurora’s smile grew a little wider as she leaned in slightly, her voice steady.
"I heard that you recently started a marketing company. And from what I’ve gathered, you’ve been doing pretty well, hiring some of the best salespeople in the industry."
Peter’s expression shifted to one of pride as he nodded.
"Yeah, that’s right. I’ve worked hard to build a strong team. We’re all about generating leads and making things happen for our clients."
Aurora nodded thoughtfully, impressed by his focus. "I’ve been thinking of launching a software."
With that she talked about the software.
Peter’s eyes widened as he listened to her words. The more she talked, the more excited he became.
This wasn’t just some small project; Aurora was talking about a major venture, one that could potentially make her one of the richest women in the world.
The thought made him feel honored that she was even considering working with him.
"I can already see it," Peter said, grinning.
"This could be huge, Ms. Dawn. If you need my marketing agency, I’m all in. We’ll help you make it a success."
Aurora smiled back at him, but her expression turned serious.
"There’s just one thing, Peter. If you ever, and I mean ever, hurt Adriana’s feelings, this partnership will be over. I will make sure to destroy your company and leave you with nothing."
Peter blinked, momentarily taken aback by her intense words. Then, realizing how serious she was, he chuckled and reassured her.
"Don’t worry, Ms. Dawn. I’d never hurt Adriana. Besides, I can tell she’s important to you. I’m not stupid."
Aurora gave a slight nod, satisfied. "Good. "
Peter’s mind was racing now. He started to think about Adriana in a new light. Aurora was right; if she was backing her up, then Adriana was probably someone very important.
’No... this can’t go on like this... If any other billionaire tries to woo Adriana... she might not focus on me at all. What if she likes someone else? This can’t go on! I need to woo her quickly!’
In the back of his mind, he made a decision: He would do whatever it took to get Adriana’s attention.
Maybe once he had more power, more connections, especially if Aurora’s project succeeded, he’d have a real chance.
’Looks like I need to intensify my efforts.’
.......................
Meanwhile, at Waters’ apartment, things were a little quieter. Adriana was sitting at the desk in the living room, looking at her phone.
She felt a strange chill run down her spine, like someone was talking about her. She shook her head, brushing it off as nothing.
But when she looked at the messages from Peter, her face turned bright red.
Over the past few days, it felt like he was everywhere. She’d run into him at the bookstore, at the café, even on the road.
It was starting to feel like a bit too much, and she wasn’t sure how to handle it.
She tried to push the thoughts aside, muttering to herself,
"There’s no way someone like Peter could be interested in me. We’re so different." But even as she said it, a part of her couldn’t deny that something about his attention was flattering.
Adriana sighed and turned her focus back to the preparations. It was almost Aurora’s birthday, and this year, they planned to do something special.
For the past three years, they hadn’t celebrated her birthday at all, so this year, they were going all out with a big surprise.
Lucas, Theodore, and Olivia were busy making digital birthday cards and organizing the details.
They were all focused on making this day unforgettable for Aurora.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
As Adriana opened the door, she was surprised to see a woman standing there, someone who looked familiar, but she couldn’t quite place. The woman immediately smiled and, before Adriana could react, hugged her tightly.
"I never knew I had such a beautiful niece!" the woman said, her voice warm and excited.
Adriana froze. She’d never seen this woman before in her life, and now here she was, claiming to be her aunt? She quickly pulled away, her heart racing with confusion.
"Who are you?" Adriana asked, her voice a bit sharp.
The woman didn’t seem fazed by Adriana’s response. Instead, she looked even more excited.
"Oh, how rude of me!" she said, brushing it off with a laugh. "My name is Jean, I’m your aunt! I’m Mary’s sister, you know, Mary, your mom."
Adriana’s eyebrows shot up in surprise. Mary? Her mom had a sister? Why was she only hearing about her now? Jean explained further, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
"I recently found out Mary settled near where I live, and I just had to come and check on her. I never thought I’d get to see her again!" Jean continued, her tone filled with both nostalgia and envy.
As Jean walked into the apartment, she immediately began inspecting everything with wide, fascinated eyes.
"Wow, this place is so nice!" she muttered, looking around as if she couldn’t believe her eyes.
’That cheap sister of mine is indeed living a good life, huh? I wish I could live in this house. Well... it doesn’t matter, right? Soon I will move in here and live with her.
I will also ask her to give me some jewelry and clothes. Hmm... this cheap sister of mine is still of some use, huh?’ Jean thought in her mind.
Jean turned towards Lucas, Theodore, and Olivia, putting on a smile so wide that it almost looked fake.
"You must be Mary’s children, right? You three are so handsome and beautiful!"
Just from the way Jean was speaking Olivia was determined that Jean was a green tea b*tch.
When it came to green tea who can beat Olivia?
"I wish I could say the same for you, Aunt Jean," Olivia said, grinning. "But you look... well, different from what I expected."
The way Olivia laughed made it clear she was joking, but her words had a bite to them. It was like a playful jab, but everyone knew there was a little truth in it.
Lucas lowered his head, trying to hide his smile. He was trying so hard not to laugh.
Meanwhile, Theodore just couldn’t hold it in anymore. He had to cover his mouth to suppress his laughter, but the way his shoulders shook betrayed his emotions.
Jean’s smile faltered as she heard Olivia’s remark, her face flushing a little with anger.
’This little b*tch! She dared to taunt me? In the end she is the daughter of that woman! Just a cheapstake like her mother!’
She quickly tried to regain her composure but then froze when her eyes landed on Theodore.
Her mouth dropped open in shock, and she pointed at him, her voice suddenly filled with disbelief.
"Wait, wait a minute!" she exclaimed. "You’re that actor, right? The one from that reality TV show! I’ve seen you on TV!"
