Chapter 908: Chapter 211 The Pearl Above Sand City

The Northeast Temple this time sent only a tiny contingent of five shamans for the ceremony, with Liu Shock, who was certain not to complete the contest, and Scepter Shaman Remel just going through the motions. Thus, the actually competing participants numbered just three: one was Moer, another was Demikalis, the grand-disciple of Master Qi Dan, who was also a young model — a mere 150 years old, indeed as tender as the morning dew for a Turtleman. The last shaman was a young and short Orephin, who seemed to still have a runny nose; an apprentice to an obscure soul shaman of the Northeast Temple, he had already acquired the same shaman title as his mentor, a feat that spoke of his exceptional talent.

Not all Orephins were muscular giants; this Orephin shaman came from the shortest branch of the Elephant Clan — the Miss Elephant lineage. Standing at only 1.3 meters tall, he was like a tiny grass next to his tribal brother, the mammoth strongman Rodman, and probably did not even weigh as much as one of Fat Luo’s arms.

According to tradition, the shamans from all systems were to gather and make a round of the arena to show themselves off, a practice known as "showing the ranks." This was done during the parade when they encountered someone of higher rank, also creating a confidence-boosting atmosphere for the young competing shamans. Upon seeing the king and the pope waving at them, even the most timid Beamon shaman had to muster up some fighting spirit.

As the comically small group of shamans from the Northeast Temple made their way around the stadium, waving at the spectators in the stands, they indeed elicited quite a few good-natured laughs. Aside from the flagbearer Liu Shock and the beauty snake mentor, the four competing shamans were either old or young, and their short stature was not impressive; Moer, only about 1.6 meters tall, stood out as petite and delicate but was still markedly taller than the three other shamans. Moreover, with Shaman of Divine Songs Liu Shock carrying two Frosty Pichus and a doll on his shoulder, he looked more like a father out shopping for snacks with his son than a shaman ready for a grand ceremony.

This scene even made the Northeast Province’s shamans and Centaurs watching from the box seats feel a hint of dismay about their champions’ prospects.

When the contest actually began, the situation changed somewhat.

Liu Shock, after the starting gong sounded, managed to "Instant Teleport" back to the box within two minutes, thanks to the "Shrink the Earth to an Inch" feature of his "Roar of Rage" necklace; he had adapted quite quickly to it.

At this moment, Cui Beixi, the mentor, had just returned after taking a sip of water. Seeing Richard back so soon, the beauty snake mentor almost spat out her water.

"Did you eliminate your opponent that fast? You really don’t know how to let others save face, do you?" laughed the beauty snake mentor.

The Protocol Officer’s booming voice, amplified by the Wind System’s sound-enhancing Formation, vibrated in everyone’s ears within the box: "Richard, from the Witherspoon Temple of the Northeast Province, is the first to be eliminated from the competition!"

"Eliminated?" The voices exploded in disbelief.

"How is that possible!" The beauty snake mentor wiped her mouth with the back of her hand, her stunningly beautiful face filled with disbelief.

"I forfeited." Liu Shock placed the three heirs he was carrying on his arm onto the seats and shrugged his shoulders.

"I bet your opponent was a young girl, definitely pretty, dressed revealingly, and slipped you a note," O’Neal mischievously guessed at his boss’s thoughts, only to be rewarded with a slap from the matron Helen.

"Let’s not talk about it." Liu Shock felt it was a bit ludicrous himself; his opponent in his division was a young shaman from the military. As luck would have it, this young fellow, named Rune, had met Liu Shock before — last year, in the Ink Crystal canyon during the rescue of the Far East Prince, Rune was a Wind Whisperer apprentice who had a brief encounter with Liu Shock. Unexpectedly, he had become a soul shaman this year.

"Why didn’t you fight it out with him? This is a magical creature duel; you have no reason to be afraid of him, right? Was his magical creature the Evil-eye Tyrant or something?" Fat Luo was hugely disappointed, given Guoguo’s reputation for defeating all opponents in the Northeast and the addition of the twin heirs; facing a Giant Dragon, they would still fight tooth and nail first.

"Rune, the kid, is very persistent. Although he knew my prowess, he still didn’t wish to give up the contest. Why harm a young shaman’s enthusiasm? Young people need to face hardships to grow, but appropriate praise is necessary. If I had eliminated him, he would have to wait another year," Liu Shock sighed with an air of weary wisdom. "I wasn’t expecting to take first place anyway, so getting eliminated outright is fine by me."

"I think you did well, Richard," the beauty snake mentor paused for a moment then smiled at Liu Shock.

"Don’t flatter me, dear mentor." Liu Shock scratched the corner of his mouth and chuckled: "For the genius lineage to produce a failure like me, ousted in the first round, you should feel heartbroken."

"You should think about how you’re going to explain it to the pope," the mentor’s smile carried a hint of complexity.

"Explain? Is that necessary? Is it not?" Liu Shock let out a cold laugh.

"You guys have to see what Moer is up to!" Nedved and Xiao Cui, sitting on the steps, pointed towards the southern part of the competition area, drawing everyone’s attention there.

"What?" The shamans of the Northeast Temple gasped in unison, including the beauty snake mentor. When they first glimpsed the scene, they almost fainted.
