Chapter 773: Chapter 168: Laughter and Tears_3
Liu Zhenhan turned a blind eye, pretending not to see the soldiers gathering the spoils of war. He had personally taught them the art of plundering, and they executed it perfectly. He decided he would give rewards to those who had led the effort.
Old Liu cast another glance at the sky, where the Evil-eye Tyrant hovered. This monster was no longer focused on him, but was communicating in grunts with a group of Moores who were half kneeling on the ground. The sight of Prince Moore talking to the creature while it responded without moving its lips surprised the old man.
Just an instant after he averted his gaze, the dozens of antennae-like eyes on the Tyrant’s blob-shaped body distorted, and each one stared at Old Liu. It was like a swarm of one-eyed serpents with their eyes all fixed on their prey, and it gave Liu the creeps. He quickly averted his gaze.
"What if this creature continues to follow me around?" Old Liu was weighing his options secretly, thinking up poisonous measures that bobbed at the surface of his mind like bubbles in a swamp.
At that moment, Drow Mother You Yue’er, accompanied by several Two-Headed Chimaera knights, marched furiously over. They were pulling a crude stretcher on which lay a badly beaten Dark Night Demon Hunter called Jalincha. Suppressing her rage, the Drow Mother pointed at Jalincha and asked Liu Zhenhan, "Honourable Overlord, what do your soldiers think they’re doing? I acknowledge your Antelope Warriors and Banilou Warriors helped us a great deal in battle. But we captured this Saline Kui Niu by risking our lives with a team of Demon Hunters, Forest Warriors and Sky Knights. We sacrificed nearly a battalion of elite soldiers for this. So why are your soldiers insisting that it’s their spoils of war? They even assaulted my subordinates over it!"
Liu Zhenhan glanced at the Drow Mother, then at the heavily injured Dark Night Demon Hunter on the stretcher. The remaining forces of the Drows down the slope were no longer gathering their spoils. They were forming a staggered array and were already ready to retreat, fleeing like dogs with their tails between their legs.
The Drows were truly scared out of their wits. The Evil-eye Tyrant had shot a dozen beams of intense light from its many eyes, obliterating Gerein and two Blood Magic Mages indiscriminately. This spectacle had shocked the Drows who were watching the battle from afar. Believing that the Tyrant was as ruthless as its title suggested, they had no desire for negotiations and decided to run for their lives.
"You Drows, what do you want with this Saline Kui Niu? Why did you capture it alive?" Liu Zhenhan asked, patting the enormous Saline Kui Niu that Fat Luo and Ardu had brought over. The monster was lying there like a small meat mountain; even flat on its side, it was still one and a half metres tall. Its enormous head had been smashed by a blunt object, and the heavy nasal sounds coming from its large nostrils were a testament to its pain. Its thick hoof, as sturdy as a pier, had been hacked open at the shin, exposing the grisly sight of the white bone inside. Besides that fracture, the rest of its skin seemed intact. The beast’s skin was extraordinarily thick with a layer of salt frost accumulating on top, over an inch thick. As Liu Zhenhan ran his hand over it, he could feel the rough, hard quality of the skin scraping against his fingers. This left him both puzzled and eager to seize this mysterious bounty of a living Kui Niu.
A live Kui Niu was definitely a treasure. Its still-throbbing heart could be removed and stored in alcohol, which would keep it beating. Then, by using the Kui Niu’s skin to make a war drum, filling the drum with the Kui Niu’s heart and alcohol, and crafting a pair of drumsticks from its leg bones, one could create an authentic Kui Drum called "Endurance of Jiang". If a Kui Niu magic crystal were embedded in the drumhead, the still-beating Kui Niu’s heart could help the bone drumsticks create beats. Every ninety-nine beats, an "endurance aura" and a "sluggish aura" would burst forth. This was an upgrade from the Kui Drum that the Dragon Mage Kochis had used during the Heigar war. His Kui Drum, made from the skin and magic crystal of a dead Kui Niu, could only generate a "sluggish aura" every ninety-nine beats.
Moreover, this Saline Kui Niu had an impressive jumping ability. It could propel its hefty three to four-ton body into the sky as if it were spring-loaded, suggesting that it had well-developed leg muscles. These could be used to make bowstrings that could easily compete with the leg tendons of a prehistoric Giant Lice. Of course, Old Liu couldn’t let such a treasure slip his grasp.
"We Drows need powerful warriors!"
"Magical Beasts evolving into a wisdom race? Evolving into humans?" Liu Zhenhan was caught off guard by this hypothesis.
"Theoretically, it’s absolutely possible. If animals can evolve into wisdom races, like your Beamon, and plants can evolve into human forms, like the Shepherd-tree People, why can’t Magical Beasts? Over hundreds of thousands of years of evolution, Magical Beasts have evolved magical powers, wisdom and humanoid forms!" said Lady You Yue’er in a tone of indifference. "When we first inhabited the subterranean world, Cenarius was just a Magical Beast with a human head and the body of an elk. Over ten thousand years later, hasn’t Cenarius developed arms?"
Old Liu could only give the mother thumbs-up.
"Aren’t we just humanoid creatures evolved from magical beasts like giant dragons?" Daisy squinted playfully at Old Liu holding a Div Water Crystal Ball in her hand.
"I want to leave here as soon as possible, Lord, please return our Kui Niu to us. A living Kui Niu isn’t easily obtained. If it’s in the Saline Lake, even a hundred thousand troops can’t handle it." Mother You Yue’er anxiously urged the Beamon Lord as she noticed her troops starting to stretch out into the distance.
"Lady Mother, this Saline Kui Niu is very useful to the Beamons. I can generously tell you, I don’t want those four Birdwing Crossbow Cars anymore. I’ll use them to exchange for this Kui Niu! I altruistically support my Drow brothers in defending their homeland with those four Birdwing Crossbow Cars on the volcano’s back! Of course, those ten ’Hearts of Blood Feather’ can’t be less, after all, there must be some icing on the cake." Old Liu shamelessly but boldly waved his hand: "As for the powerful magical beast, you can rest assured. When we return to the surface, I will present you with a Base Dragon! That is a sub-dragon magical beast with dragon clan lineage!"
"You..." The Drow mother was choked with anger. Her mind was filled with exasperation at this lord’s nonsensical delay. Seeing her troops getting further away, and the Evil-eye Tyrant’s frequent glances from the sky, Mother You Yue’er started to panic.
Knowing this mother’s eagerness to leave, Liu Zhenhan secretively laughed in his heart. Regardless of whatever Mother You Yue’er said, he digressed the conversation as far as possible, deliberately dragging out the time.
While the Drow mother was stamping her feet and Liu Zhenhan was rambling on, a few militiamen took the opportunity to tie up the living Kui Niu and put it in the space ring. Ardu rode the Newton Giant Bird around the volcano and returned with a satisfied look.
"Lord Richard..." Prince Moore quietly stood next to Liu Zhenhan and nudged his waist.
"I’m leaving, I’m leaving!" Seeing that His Highness Benitez and the Evil-eye Tyrant had finished their conversation, the Drow mother became anxious first. She clumsily climbed onto a Two-Headed Chimera’s saddle, and along with all the Drow guards, they quickly took off and flew high into the sky.
"Stop!" Liu Zhenhan made a gesture known as "tube spectrum" in the Mongolian language with both hands and looked into His Highness Benitez’s eyes, saying: "Are we friends?"
"Yes..." His Highness Benitez hesitated for a moment.
"That’s good to hear, I learned your blood magic, so what? Am I going to turn against you? After all, you’ve shown me the Magic Map and I happen to know Elvish. To tell you the truth, I’ve never heard that absorbing the essence of blood can refine magic. It’s too easy to master, doesn’t need meditation, it’s simply too awesome!" Liu Zhenhan quickly took the initiative, like a seven-star crossbow, blocking all possible retorts from the Moore.
