Chapter 743: Chapter 161: Failed to Kill the Demon and was Slain Instead_1
Years of hunting unresisting cave dwellers in the underworld has made these fallen elf soldiers slightly sluggish and conservative in their military skills and responsive abilities. In the many years of constant wars erupting between the Blood Elves and Dark Elves, they had never encountered such a coincidental and unimaginable ambush. As the fissures and lava sprays erupted from the ground, the River Immortal archers who lost their front-line protection were immediately thrown into panic. Not only them, facing the huge plates that were several times taller than their own bodies, the entire fallen elf army fell into an embarrassing chaos.
The mounts of the Air Knights were especially uneasy. If it weren’t for their disciplined training, these Troll bats and Two-Headed Chimeras might have fled in the face of such an intimidating enemy.
Any well-trained army would fall into chaos in the face of such an anomaly. The only difference would be the duration of the chaos. Whether they are veterans or not, this critical moment is the most direct and simplest test.
By this time, Liu Zhenhan had led a large group of Centaurs quietly to the back of the slope. Their movements were silent and agile. Following the example set, they all crawled silently on the ground, laying their bodies down in a half-sunken form behind the soldier’s cover that they had hammered out from the ground. This was one of the basic military assessment tasks in Felaniturs. Through real live-fire drills, it was proven that hiding from magic attacks in such half-body recessed cover could reduce casualties by more than fifty percent. If protected by mages, anything below high-level magic attacks and overhead arrow showers could be completely ignored.
However, the fallen elf army didn’t have such swift reactive ability, the vast majority of the individuals were instinctively retreating swiftly, while many others stood there dumbfounded.
The conical valley formed by the two extinct volcanoes at the edges of the swamp was nearly a thousand yards apart. Being blocked by the 15 battalions of the Drow army, there was limited space for flanking or turning around. This wasn’t due to Jalincha, the military commander having any error in arrangement. Her conception and ideas were absolutely correct. The only thing she miscalculated was that the Flame Lord’s tomb was not deep in the swamp but right under the feet of the front-line soldiers.
Drow couldn’t all be Air Knights of course. So, they were not exceptions.
When the Flame Lord thrust himself out from under Skeleton Mountain, ripping open the earth with four twisted poems and revealing his twelve-meter high body encased in flowing lava, the Drow army was completely thrown into chaos. Facing a monster as large as a mountain, one cannot imagine the panic within the hearts of the River Immortals unless one has been through it personally. Now, each and every Drow soldier absolutely understood why mice are so afraid of cats.
The swift retreat of the forces is an anathema in the military. Although the priests of Drow’s battle squad galloped back and forth on their White Tigers, the Slayer’s Snake Whip couldn’t stop the group’s retreat. No one wanted to stay even a second longer under the raining lava. The "Gamma Rays" sporadically fired by the River Immortal archers in the back could not achieve the anticipated firepower net-effect. Like a comet dragging its brilliant tail, because the River Immortal archers stumbled and crowded each other, the silver lined Gamma rays were fired all over the place. Only a small fraction hit the Flame Lord, who was brandishing lava.
Both the Drow and Moore Mages knew that this Super-level Warcraft didn’t care about anything below high-level magic. So they were summoning high-level magic desperately. In their haste, they couldn’t gather the necessary power and magic required. By the time the eagle cows, troll bats knights, and Two-Headed Chimaera Knights bravely attacked, the salt giants, who had been stepping out of the gloomy Salino Swamp, first threw their rough, hot salt spears. Their muscular arms split the air, and the salt spears controlled by the tremendous power created a three-meter-high zigzag fence in the chaotic fallen elf army.
The elf knights surveying from the sky, noticing the retreat of the ground forces, were getting panicked in their hearts.
The Flame Lord finally pushed through the rock layer with his gigantic body, standing fully on the surface. Bato demons wielding flame-spitting swords frantically emerged from the swamp, streaming past the Flame Lord. With the swirling flames and blazing heat, they charged towards the retreating fallen elf soldiers.
The Flame Lord looked like a skinned toad, although humanoid, he was more of a monster. His red muscular limbs resembled burning charcoal, on his body, ugly blisters were appearing and disappearing continuously. His body was so revolting that no one would want to look a second time. Coupled with his twelve-meter height and tusks, three meters long, peeking out from his lips, the Flame Lord was utterly horrifying. The huge curved horns on his deformed head, like two giant anchors, rose high up, harboring circles of bizarre molten lava. The lava flowed from his body, splashing on the ground, creating a series of strange sizzling sounds. The word ’ghastly’, is only perfect when it’s used for him.
