Chapter 738: Chapter 160: Making a Fortune Silently_1
The Hell Salt Marsh is indeed not a pleasant place to live. The front of the entire marsh has been dissected by two large extinct volcanoes, forming a broad entrance which is a low-lying area. Standing on the slope with a five to six meters difference in height, one can overlook an eerily dark red marsh below. A lonely subterranean sun shines upon a flock of desolate crows, and the desolate winds roll over the mountain pass like tens of thousands of starving ghosts singing songs of longing for their homeland.
A giant bone pile at the entrance of the marsh bears witness to the terror of the Flame Lord. Most of the bones in these piles belong to the diminutive cave dwellers, with some robust and tall skeletons interspersed among them. The fragmented skull remains form an even mound. Winds passing through the features of the skulls release an eerie "whoo" noise, and ghostly lights from phosphorus flitter around like fireflies in the dark space, casting a bleak glow that adds to the grim and horrifying atmosphere. Regardless of who stands here, they can instantly feel the chilling proximity of death. Virtually no creature on the Furious Flame Continent dares to enter here, including the mighty Difeng Giants. The Flame Lord is the only ruler here, commanding countless magical beasts and fire monsters within the Hell Salt Marsh. Like the fallen elves, the Flame Lord frequently dispatches his armies to scavenge for fresh live sacrifices. Few entities on the Furious Flame Continent can defend themselves against his forces, and the remains in this pile of skeletons are exactly those who were found and sacrificed by the beasts and fire giants of the Flame Lord.
The multitude of bizarre magical beasts moving about in the Dark Region signal the carnage and death that characterizes the Salino Swamp. Inside the extensive swamp, besides conical volcanoes, there are semi-shell-shaped and semi-flowing lava, with large patches of black rock plates floating on it. Reedshader Lampgrass, the only plant that grows here, emanates eerie, reddish lamp-like glow from the cattail-like stalks in its leaves. This makes dark red the predominant color here. The "glug-glug" sound of hot bubbles and the black smoke containing the stench of death occasionally appearing on the swamp surface are the only decorations here. Each rumbling, brewing lava flow occasionally flares up into the sky, dusting the dark sky with a layer of faint salt frost which then falls down hitting the ground. This salt frost, besides being red-hot, also has a strong corrosive capacity that makes one feel nauseous even from a slight exposure.
In the past, anyone participating in this demon slaying action would have felt apprehensive. But today is an exception. The sight of the carnage on the battlefield pumps adrenaline into the spectators and fills them with combative blood, akin to being a perfect pre-battle motivation. Every warrior’s heart is choked with anticipation, either to kill or be killed.
The kind and righteous Antelope Warriors are not strangers to this place. They once tried to destroy this barbaric Flame Lord, as most of the Underground Wanderers perish at the hands of Flame Lord’s hunting armies annually, rather than falling under the blades of the fallen elves’ homecoming group. However, their strength only enabled them to face the hunting armies of the Flame Lord, but they were not qualified to enter the scorching Hell Salt Marsh and confront the evil Flame Lord. The Difeng Giants could freely enter and exit the Salino Swamp, but even they, in all their might, didn’t have the audacity to believe they could fight countless magical beasts and strange creatures here, let alone the Flame Lord himself.
The multitude of Batiz Lava Monsters and Fire-Dwelling Fish People are the first wave of enemies welcoming the elf army. For these creatures of low intelligence living in the Salino Swamp, battle is almost their sole instinct. From the scouts’ arrival, till the whole elf army approaches, these fearless creatures don’t cease their harassment for a moment. Flying attack magic and rushing fangs and claws are the primary composition here. Daisy and Ruona’s first reaction is to capture these dazzling scenes with the Div Water Crystal Ball.
The battle is incredibly intense, the quantity of these magical beasts is honestly astonishing. Once these creatures are incorporated into the Flame Lord’s simple regiment, their combat effectiveness increases significantly. Despite their attacks being disorganized and chaotic, these upstarts, leveraging their superior combat strength and fearless courage, manage to inflict casualties numbering in the hundreds amongst the fallen elves on the first day alone. Although the death toll among these magical beasts may be ten times higher, the fallen elves grow increasingly uneasy as they continue to fight, sensing the monsters converging in greater density.
The tactical abilities of the "Dark Night Demon Hunter" Jalincha need not be mentioned. Besides arranging the main forces for a frontal attack and sequentially enticing the enemy to emerge, she also sends out small aerial squads from all directions. Apparently, in the depths of the Salino Swamp lies a demon tomb, inside of which lives the Flame Lord, a creature that subsists on the power of flames and ferocity. Entering the scorching depths of the swamp and attacking the tomb within, is the only way to provoke the Flame Lord into engaging in battle, thus achieving a quick resolution.
