Chapter 693: Chapter 145: Encountering a familiar in a foreign land_3

"Only a hundred sky knights in a country?" Prince Moore is aghast, mouth agape. "Even though we, the Blood Elves, command three hundred thousand of the Cow-Eagle vassal clan, we still maintain an internal team made up of Troll Bat Elves Knights. The Dark Elves maintain an eight hundred strong force of Two-Headed Chimera Knights! This represents a tradition. Has the Surface World stopped caring completely about the status of the air force? After all, the air force remains the ceremonial guard representing Palace Etiquette!"

"Heaven knows." Liu Zhenhan shrugged, "The air force has already declined. Anyone who still uses it is seen as old-fashioned."

Prince Benitez still wore an incredulous expression, muttering unintelligibly from time to time.

Prince Moore did not know that his casual chat with the Overlord Liu reminded him of a crucial matter.

Ever since Liu Zhenhan first dealt with the Fallen Elves, he always unconsciously treated them as modern humans, especially in terms of thinking and natural habits. However, he inadvertently overlooked a fundamental thing... these Fallen Elves have been exiled to the underground world for over ten thousand years! Their combat habits and lifestyle are mostly still stuck at the standard from ten thousand years ago. The only change is that after reaching the underground, they crafted a formidable army with abundant steel instead of using bronze weapons and equipment like they did over ten thousand years ago.

Back when these two Fallen Elves were exiled underground, the grand war between the Gods and Demons hadn’t even taken place on the Aegean Continent’s surface world! During that time, almost all races maintained substantial air force formations! It was exactly because of the power of the air force, that the giant dragons of the Aegean Continent never participated in the war between the Gods and the Demons! The decline of the airborne knights began only after the Tennessee air battle of the Heigar campaign. Because of the bottleneck in breeding and training, even the military powerhouse of the entire Aegean Continent’s current formal air force does not exceed a hundred personnel.

This perception is contrary to the current military view that the air force is only suitable for scouts and messengers. More than ten thousand years ago, all intelligent races frequently built and employed air force. Of course, the structure of the air knights back then and now is as different as heaven and earth. Any quantitative change can cause qualitative change: a hundred air knights can only serve as scouts, while a hundred thousand air knights are enough to annihilate a ground army.

This small revelation left Liu Zhenhan horrified. The two underground fallen elves already command a large number of Eagle-Bull and Cow-Eagle people. Still, they continue to hold on to the traditional air force structure, which speaks volumes about their regard for aerial power.

The limitations of modern sky knights mainly lie in the difficulties of breeding and training. It’s not actually that every military powerhouse is unwilling to establish them; the problem is that they lack the ability to build such forces on a large scale. Despite their weak defense, sky knights possess unmatched abilities in flank movement. Massive, high-tier sky knights appearing unexpectedly could probably trigger a military revolution across the continent.

Liu Zhenhan initially felt these Fallen Elves were not a menace, but now, these Fallen Elves who have deeply rooted understanding and appreciation of aerial combat may indeed have an advantage after reaching the surface. Liu Zhenhan had experienced the effectiveness of their coordinated air and ground combat in the Flame Mountain Valley. The Eagle-Bull might not be too formidable, but few hundred thousand Eagle-Bull warriors, together with the two kinds of flying magical beast knights, is an entirely different story. As long as their numbers are considerable, even when facing the Holy Vatican’s Dragon Knights they might still stand a fighting chance.

Liu Zhenhan again found himself in an awkward predicament, pondering if it is indeed wise to send these Fallen Elves to the Surface World?

On the drawbridge of Mosoburada City, Dark Elf knights mounted on black panthers assembled in formation to welcome the arrival of the Blood Elf Prince and the Beamon Lord. Eight sensuous Dark Elf Matriarchs, wearing Rose Spider Crowns and seductive gowns, greeted the approaching party with the characteristic pride and aloofness of Elves.

These female Dark Elves, in both figure and face, could definitely rival the girls of Beamon’s Fawkes.

Liu Zhenhan’s gaze roamed around, not really paying attention to the enticing faces of these Dark Elves, but rather fixating on the two colossal ancient trees flanking the drawbridge. These trees were about twenty meters high with verdant leaves and huge burls on their trunks.

The fruits borne by these ancient trees looked almost like giant durians, their skins coarse and sturdy, covered in dense spikes, hanging like grapes from the tree branches. Two robust branches stretched out diagonally from both sides of each tree, with black bark twined to form a natural arm, with fingers and claws. The upper body of these trees featured numerous vine-made walkways and platforms; dozens of Dark Elf scouts with bows and arrows were patrolling.

The two trees creaked and croaked as they moved without any wind.

These are great assets!

The Koutao Merfolk had lived underground for so many years that they had gathered quite a fortune, let alone these Fallen Elves!

Maybe it was because Liu Zhenhan stared at the ancient trees for too long or because his gaze was filled with threat and desire for possession, but one of the trees extended its branches like a person, plucked a one-meter-diameter large thorny fruit with its wooden claws, cradled it with both arms, and with a flick of its vines, sent the huge prickly fruit arching over in a parabola, directly and accurately, toward Liu Zhenhan.
