Chapter 683: Chapter 143 Giant’s Heart_1

Although there were many hiccups and considerable cost in dealing with Moore’s Blood Elves, Liu Zhenhan was satisfied with the current outcome.

In retrospect, Liu felt a sense of déjà vu when dealing with Moore. It was just like the fierce battle with Dorott’s consort Count Totti that left rivers of blood in their wake, and after they had captured this descendant of the Valenbuer defectors, they were casually offered a deal to open the path to Mount Hyjal. Not only did they let him go, they even became his hired guns, helping Dorott’s consort eliminate serious political opponents.

Today, underground, Liu Zhenhan also played this game of wild geopolitical baiting. It seemed that he played it pretty well.

But Moore was not an idiot either. Before withdrawing from Flame Mountain Valley, they bundled up all the weapons and armor of their fallen dwarves and blood elves, taking everything with them. Since they were now allies, although Liu Zhenhan was reluctant, he could not find a reason to refuse.

The remaining Medusa mercenaries, initially hired at the mere price of a full body armor, eyed the exquisitely crafted dwarf armor with greed even though they couldn’t wear it. Each of them stealthily stashed away dozens of top-quality weapons and armors. While hoarding spoils of war was a common occurrence on the battlefield, their ant-like hoarding of spoils on such a large scale was quite rare. Compared with the militiamen of Feilengcui, these Medusa warriors seemed pathetic. The Feilengcui militiamen had their own arms factory, their armor and weapons were made to measure, emphasizing human-machine efficiency. Their boss was also generous, providing them with precious materials like ink crystals and agate, and expensive magical equipment was prioritized for the militiamen. Therefore, Feilengcui militiamen rarely kept equipment they couldn’t use themselves, embodying the knight spirit.

Looking at the numbers, Liu Zhenhan felt that he had incurred a huge loss. Not to mention the casualties and compensation of the Medusa mercenaries, the unprecedented number of injured Mastiff warriors alone was a severe blow. If not for the robust equipment of the Heavy Scythe-wielders, the wounds of the Mastiff warriors would have been debilitating, forcing them to lie in bed for a hundred days.

After sending back all the remaining Medusa warriors and all injured Mastiff warriors to Feilengcui, Liu Zhenhan sent Yi Tiao and Ruona to another Giant village in the western part of the continent, Rolling Stone Valley, to investigate whether it was also surrounded by the armies of the Drow Elves.

In the meantime, Liu Zhenhan lead all the Buer warriors and militiamen through the magic teleportation array to Lava Valley in the southern part of the continent. They brought along a large amount of fresh water for this trip, prioritizing a solid defense over reckless attacks as suggested by Prince Moore.

Whether Liu Zhenhan was inherently unlucky by birth, or a once-in-a-lifetime disaster, as soon as he appeared in the Giant’s lair at Lava Valley, he was met with billowing smoke that made hearts and lungs leap out of their chests, a constant spicy, salty sting in the throat, and a cave full of intense coughing, chaos everywhere.

As soon as Liu Zhenhan stepped out of the magic circle and saw the black smoke, his first instinctual reaction was that it was a chemical poison. With a standard crawling approach, he covered his mouth with his left arm, holding his breath, while his right hand rummaged in his backpack for a gas mask.

Naga, standing next to him, instantly cast a spell, causing the thick smoke to converge into a whirlwind, rushing out of the cave, instantly cleaning the air in the cave.

"Lord Richard!" The pure Drow girl, Xiao Cui, excitedly called out when she saw Liu Zhenhan lying on the ground, then broke into a fit of coughing.

All around him, the faces of the Difeng Giants and Antelope Warrior were covered in black, ash-like smoke; they stared open-mouthed at Liu Zhenhan lying on the ground.

"It’s you who make me fall for you." Liu Zhenhan joked as he got up, dusting off the imaginary dirt from his knees.

The quick-wittedness of Lord Feilengcui made the surrounding Giants burst into understanding laughter.

Seeing that the smoke at the entrance of the cave had been blown in again, Liu Zhenhan quickly unleashed a large group of people from his Space Ring. Moer summoned several water balls and threw them at the stack of firewood at the entrance, over two meters high and billowing black smoke. But even these water balls couldn’t do any good.

Helen immediately summoned the Base Dragon whose flash of the Strengthen Stone Skin spell quickly covered the stack of firewood with a layer of uniform stone slurry. Just like Yinchen wood, it sealed off the smoke. Gude had a large bucket of water, around three to four hundred pounds. He rushed to the entrance and dumped all the water on the firewood pile, causing a sizzling sound, eventually turning the smoke from black to a faint green as it slowly dispersed. A few panda warriors didn’t hesitate to empty the water in their buckets as well.

At this moment, faint cheers could be heard in the distance.

Liu Zhenhan looked down at the magic teleportation array under his feet, which was built on a honeycomb-shaped stone platform. He didn’t know if it was the Giants’ usual dining table. The entire cave was filled with the typical Difeng style. About the size of an exercise field in diameter, the surrounding cave walls still bore clear marks of artificial excavation. The cave was full of very ancient and weathered marks. Giant oil lamps flickering with flames hung in hollows in the cave walls. There was also a cave on each side of the wall that led down along stone steps. A glance at the expansive mouths of these caves revealed that the space underneath was definitely not small. There were sporadic coughs from within the caves, though it was much better than outside.
