Chapter 667: Chapter 140: Making a Comeback_5
The Bimon warriors were already clearing the battlefield. Twelve mammoth elephants dragged wooden rollers along the path, driving away the accumulated rainwater from the Valley. Meanwhile, Liu Zhenhan and others waited anxiously for Ruona. Incapable of enduring the wait, Liu Zhenhan sought a distraction and rode Gerein into the sky to inspect the "stairway to heaven" mentioned by the Blood Elves.
About a thousand yards away from the Flame Mountain Valley, he indeed reached the limit of the underground sky. The landscape of the underground sky didn’t deviate much from the ground one, having its mountains and prolonged trenches. However, under the light of the Sacrificial Fire, Liu Zhenhan could clearly see the different wells and properly repaired stepped slopes. He couldn’t comprehend who built it all and especially how they erected it upside-down.
There are indeed too many ancient wonders on the Aegean Continent, both on the ground and underground. Ranging from mountain-sized stone statues to the marvel of wells in the Underground World, all transcended modern human strength and technology. In face of these prehistoric miracles, Liu Zhenhan’s exclamations seemed feeble and pale.
Entering the well, he climbed about five hundred steps upwards along the damp stairs until he reached a large hole dug out in the mud wall at the end. On the left side was a stone statue of a lying bull, simple and robust, the size of an elephant. Small pebbles littered the ground beneath it, forming a flat platform. And at a distance of five hundred metres on his right, there was only a mud wall. Listening closely, he could hear the faint sound of tidal waves from behind it.
The hole in the front mud wall was enormous. The water gushed out from it, cascading down the stairs, transforming into a sweet rain and nourishing the Furious Flame Continent’s barren lands. This gaping hole was immensely broad, occupying almost half of the dirt wall that was five hundred meters long. Its shape was quite abstract. It seemed Cave Dwellers initially drilled through it, later augmented by the fierce torrents of water. Under such an onslaught of water, the Cave Dwellers were probably swept away.
The mud on the wall seemed slightly glistening. Liu Zhenhan squatted down, grabbing a handful of humid dark mud. He brandished the Sacrificial Fire, letting its eerie lights flicker and illuminate the tunnel. Treading on the muddy floor unevenly and penetrating about twenty meters in, he found himself facing a huge cave. The light from the Sacrificial Fire reflected ripples from the water inside. After using the Night Pearl from the Space Ring for further illumination, he found the path to be blocked by water. Up in the high ceiling, droplets would occasionally fall onto the water surface, their splashes sounding as if a thumb piano was being played.
Liu Zhenhan deduced that based on the surrounding scenery, this place might once have been a sizable water bubble enveloped in mud. Whether or not it was connected to other locations, he had no clue. However, there might be a connection underneath the wave-like ripples of the deep pond.
After the big water bubble deep in the mud was hollowed out, a flood erupted, with water over the cave’s surface level rushing all over. The remaining body of water was now barely level with the mouth of that hollowed-out hole. If it weren’t for that platform of pebbles outside, the Wangentaose might have dug even deeper, leading to a bigger rain shower over Flame Mountain Valley today.
Fortunately, the Flame Mountain Valley was located about a thousand meters above the great downpour. A gusty wind swept the rushing water outward, spreading it across the air. If all the water had directly poured into the Flame Mountain Valley, the tremendous water column could likely have driven everything into the ground.
Chilly winds gusted through, and Liu Zhenhan swung the Night Pearl here and there, foolishly hoping to find some Mailman Crystals or Kagaride Gems. However, after searching for quite a while, he came up empty. When he asked Gerein to dive into the water to check, the Tide Lord flat out refused, claiming it was too creepy.
Seeing no point in sticking around, Liu Zhenhan rode Gerein back to Flame Mountain Valley. A group of Kou Tao Merfolk were struggling to drag the stripped dwarf armor and the bodies of the Medusa Warriors into the Flame Mountain Valley. The eyes of these Kou Tao Merfolk were all red, likely irritated by the lime water that had gushed into the Gibraltar River during the clean-up by the Golden Figures.
Upon seeing their overlord Liu Zhenhan descending from the sky, the Kou Tao Merfolk obsequiously nodded and bowed their heads, mumbling incoherently. Difeng Giant Chief Yangkele couldn’t help but smile as he translated their praises for Liu Zhenhan.
Grossed out by the sycophantic Kou Tao Merfolk, Liu Zhenhan was almost on the verge of killing them all.
Fortunately, Figo spoke up in the merfolk’s favor. They had been somewhat helpful in the recent ambush, creating a supportive volley of water arrows, though not particularly potent. Figo and his mercenary Medusa Warriors would have struggled to hold off the dwarves from the valley and the reserve team of Moore’s army attacking from the bridge. If it were not for these Kou Tao Merfolk, they wouldn’t have withstood the initial onslaught from both sides. Granted, these merfolk later sneaked away seeing the odds against them, but their efforts and the timely arrival of Gerein, and the completion of the mission can’t be overlooked.
