Chapter 628: Chapter 133: Paying Homage_2
Although the counterattack of the Koutao Merfolk was swift, it was clearly futile. Like a divine warrior, Gerein immediately jumped into the river, followed by forty-eight Hippopotamus poets who also plunged in without exception. The real nightmare had only just begun.
Underground creatures, other than the Koutao Merfolk, could not compare to the merfolk in water skills even if they could swim. This was exactly why the Koutao Merfolk were fearless and seemed invincible, as they always had an escape route. No other underground race had the ability to challenge the Koutao Merfolk in the abyss.
This situation would be somewhat different if it involved the powerful Aquatic Warriors of the Sea Clan and Beamon.
The unexpected scenario shocked the Koutao Merfolk. Seeing a horde of enemies suddenly appear and dive into the water was even more astonishing than the impressive showcase of power by the Whale Warriors earlier. Everyone eventually recovered from the shock only after hearing the tragic cries and spotting the whirlpools caused by the violent stirring of the water.
The Koutao Merfolk felt bewildered after regaining their senses. The panic was palpable as their formation had already shown their disorganization. A surprise ambush is the best way to test a troop’s combat effectiveness. This sudden underwater ambush was a nightmare for the Koutao Merfolk. Whenever they lost their superiority, panic was clearly seen. It was as if the Elves discovered a race more beautiful and handsome than them.
The Panda Warriors didn’t need to intervene because the Koutao Merfolk had already been thrown into disarray. Newton’s airborne cavalry overhead had already begun their attack, causing the river’s surface to shimmer with bursts of light and explosive sounds. If they had brought the oil gourd bombs with them, the Koutao Merfolk would have been in even more chaos.
Apart from enemies above, danger lurked in the waters below. Each flash of a radiant water ridge on the surface would propel a Koutao Merfolk far away due to the enormous force. Thus, many Koutao Merfolk were clueless about what to do. Like a robust cat armed to the teeth, moving among a crowd of small mice, unless the mice would fight to the death, they could hardly stop the cat’s massacre. Unfortunately, these Koutao Merfolk neither had the courage nor organization.
The Tide Lord Gerein’s participation brought the battle closer to its end. The Koutao Merfolk were weaker than the Mermaids, the overlords of the sea. The water element attack magic of the Koutao Merfolk was nothing more than decoration in the eyes of the Tide Lord. Gerein’s Frost Armor was completely immune to such attacks. Furthermore, with the one known as ’Yi’ joining the fight, the river surface was enveloped in a sea of fire. A member of the butterfly race, who could command both thunder and water, dizzied the Koutao Merfolk with her attacks, quickly sending them away from this world.
Moer’s water arrows were truly water arrows which were linked ninefold. Their effect on the native Merfolk was devastating, it was as if slicing roasted meat with a kitchen knife.
Establishing a resistance after being wrought by shock for a moment, the Koutao Merfolk hastily resorted to chaotic fleeing. Being a few thousand strong in number, if they truly decided to flee, no one could stop them.
Liu staggering rode the Pegasus with sunglasses to uphold his persona. It was all blurry, and when he took off his sunglasses, they had already dived into the water and started fleeing. Twenty of Newton’s airborne cavalries were dispirited in the air and helplessly shrugged their shoulders at their boss.
The jubilant river washed away all the blood and spray splashes, restoring the peace once again.
A dome-shaped water jet rushed sky-high, and its splashes created a drizzle on hitting the water. Figo’s bald head quietly emerged from the water. Hippopotamus poets also surfaced from the water grinning from ear to ear. O’Neal held tightly onto a Koutao Merfolk’s tail, while around him, various Hippopotamus poets held captive a fish tail each. Their battle-axes dripped ominously with blood that even the river current couldn’t wash away.
The Difeng Giants near the valley, clueless about what to do, observed the new force that had suddenly stormed into the fight.
It was only when Elder Tang Jin and the Taurens arrived they realized who had come to their rescue against the Koutao Merfolk.
"These Difeng Giants are so brawny, how come they couldn’t defeat such mediocre aquatic people?" O’Neal wiped off the water from his face, threw an unconscious captive onto the ground, and quietly asked his boss.
Liu Zhenhan crossed his arms, staring at Elder Tang Jin and the Difeng Giants arguing from afar. Astonished, he wondered how they were so unable to withstand the attacks of such inadequate Merfolk, causing them to continually retreat, which was genuinely humiliating. The tallest Difeng Giants stood well over five to six meters. They were burly and sturdy, physically comparable to the Whale Warriors. They emanated steam from their bodies. The black cracks on their skin revealed sparks within the ash-grey flesh, making them noticeably evident.
