Chapter 571: Chapter 120: the Arrow’s Momentum in the Long Room_1
From the spectator stand of the Colosseum.
Richard and Master Puskas sat side by side, encircled by silently standing individuals. Only the occasional crackling sounds of roaring bonfires piercing the silence from the Colosseum below, their flickering glow casting light upon the two mildly resembling faces.
The place was spacious with plenty of seats. A few dignitaries occupied the distant seats, also encircled by their entourages. They stood distinctly separated from Richard’s party.
These distinguished individuals initially desired to sit with Master Puskas. That desire quickly wilted under the gaze of his sly eyes, much like delicate lotus leaves in the autumn season.
Their gazes encountered the glint in the untidy eyes of Master Puskas, a light as blazing hot as the bonfires in the middle of the arena, intense like a red-hot branding iron freshly drawn from the forge.
So in the end, Richard remained the only one sitting next to the Master.
Both these men were unattractive in their way; Richard with his imposing presence, the Master with his shabby appearance.
The young Nun stood afar, refusing to glance at her father. Even the Master’s attention didn’t deter her from her seemingly listless state.
Richard observed their interaction with intrigue, as not once did he hear the young Nun address her father directly. As an individual who enjoyed gossip and had a natural curiosity towards others’ private affairs, Richard found their relationship fascinating.
His gaze going back and forth between the father-daughter pair made the starkly different duo slightly blush under his relentless observation.
"Richard, why didn’t you oppose such a form of contest?" Master Puskas cleared his throat, asking Richard, "Don’t you think it’s disadvantageous for ranged-attackers to duel with warriors?"
Referring to Musketeers as ranged-attackers was somewhat over-complimentary; their crossbows were considered toys in the eyes of many.
Rossi, the leader of the Fierce Tiger Mercenary Corps, along with his wife, pricked their ears up. Being ranged-attackers, they were interested in their future employer’s game plan.
"I was caught off guard and spoke too fast, haha, but I have faith in them." Richard laughed heartily.
"Don’t you think we humans are rather shameless, pitting superior-skilled close-quarter combatants against your ranged attackers?" Master Puskas asked in a jesting tone.
"Compared to Beamon, the greatest advantage and disadvantage of humans become evident. We humans recognize our deficiencies and confront them with honesty. The Holy Knights know that they are no match for other Beamon warriors, so they chose the weakest ones as their duel opponents," Richard dug his fingers into his budding yet ugly stub of a nose. "Compared to human warriors, the Beamon ones are too stubborn. They don’t fear strong opponents, and they are oblivious to the potential damage their reckless acts could inflict."
"An excellent warrior knows when to advance or retreat." Daisy chimed in.
"Otherwise, how could humans rule the whole continent? Intelligence is a must," Richard laughed.
"I have something to discuss with you privately after this duel..." Master Puskas stared at Richard for a while before quietly confiding his intentions.
Richard, with eyes straight ahead, nodded with a smile.
The duel had commenced. Twenty Holy Knights, waiting in the center of the Colosseum, awaited the Musketeer warriors who were still on the stand high up.
"Are they scared?" Dragon Knight Gaxia sneered at Richard in a provocative tone.
"Indeed, I’m scared... I’m scared that if we kill so many Holy Knights, your Holy Vatican will cause trouble for me," Richard brushed Guoguo’s face lightly, shaking his head in denial.
"You don’t need to worry on that front, fairness is the principle we adhere to in duels. If you’re capable, feel free to try." Dragon Knight Gaxia scoffed at the sight of the slender Musketeers with their oversized crossbows.
Seeing the provocative enemy and their boss’s reaction, the Musketeer warriors summoned mounts from their rings. Due to the rarity of Seven-degree Gold Rings, seven Musketeers shared a Space Ring. The appearance of twenty Newton Giant Birds stirred a commotion in the stands; the wind created by their flapping wings sounded like thunder rumbling along the horizon.
"Air Cavalry?" Dragon Knight Gaxia gritted her teeth, staring furiously at Richard. She now understood his calm demeanor—regular Holy Knights only had warhorses, no flying mounts. The high-level Holy Vatican wouldn’t participate in a glamorous feast that was against their teaching. It was likely too late to ask for assistance by now.
Richard shrugged and posed as if he was cool, though to others, it looked stupid.
"Befitting the Double Dragon Ceremony. possessing so many Space Rings. Where did you get so much seven-degree gold from? Don’t tell me you found a vein of that. Accumulating this much gold, not even the Dark Elves can manage it in several years," Saint Chiao, the magic master, held Richard’s hand and eyed it suggestively.
"I picked them up," Richard was sensitive to this topic and immediately brushed it off.
Ning Yu and the other beauties, intelligent as they were, glanced at Richard, remaining silent.
