Chapter 466: Chapter 100: Querying Love with a Knife_4

A pitch-dark world appeared before him.

The silent darkness, apart from the "whoosh" of the water flow in the distance, there was no other sound, no light at all. There was no Avril, no Sirens, nor Mermaids or Naga, only darkness, only sounds of water passing like wind by the ear.

The deep abyss of the ocean floor has always been a forbidden zone for the wisdom races of the surface world. Records related to it are only those elusive legends left over from the war between sea and land. Among humans, some powerful water element mages have ventured into this mysterious world, but the notes they left behind are only fragments, incapable of illuminating the structure of the underwater world.

Although Avril and Liu Zhenhan had lived for a long time, Liu, in order to avoid arousing Avril’s homesickness, had never asked her what the underwater world was like.

This was completely an unfamiliar world.

Liu Zhenhan extended his only hand, holding it up to his eyes and shaking it vigorously.

He could not see his fingers, not even their silhouette. He looked down, wanting to see Guoguo, and there was nothing to see, only darkness. He could feel Guoguo and the parrot standing on his shoulder, but he couldn’t see them.

In this lightless dark world, other than the Underground World’s Dark Elves which boast eyes like infrared sensors, any race would be blind, "Night Pearl" included now-not even Liu Zhenhan, who had been transformed by the Dragon Egg, was an exception. Liu Zhenhan himself was filled with regret. Why hadn’t he brought the "Night Pearl" with him!

The wound on Liu Zhenhan’s severed arm had at some point changed from horrendous pain to an itching sensation; warm blood flowed like a group of ants gently gnawing on the wound. But these sensations were overwhelmed by a sense of anxiety and helpless wandering.

Liu Zhenhan was almost in despair, the location where the "Starry Sky Gate" should have appeared was next to Avril, but where was Little Ai?

He had paid the price of a limb, but his hope was suddenly shattered, and he had once again fallen into the depths of the dark sea. Just like Liu, anyone would despair. He couldn’t even see his own fingers clearly, how could he save anyone? Although the artery of the wound was clamped, he didn’t know whether he might bleed to death.

Liu Zhenhan was not afraid of death, what he feared was not being able to see Avril for the last time and dying here, he could not accept this fate, not even in death!

The darkest place in the Aegean Continent is undoubtedly the Underground World, but even the Underground World has lava rivers and underground volcanoes that illuminate part of the sky and dispel the darkness. However, in the sea, there are no volcanoes, much less lava rivers. The brilliance of the Emperor Polo and Xiang Pa can never penetrate the deep water curtain and illuminate the deep-sea floor.

The darkness and silence are the most tormenting. Liu Zhenhan has undergone counter-interrogation training, including being locked in a dark environment to enhance his willpower. But, training is just training; as long as there is hope, no one will give up.

This time, however, Liu Zhenhan seemed to have lost all hope.

But, then again, Liu Zhenhan is still Liu Zhenhan.

After two deep breaths, his mood returned to complete calm.

Guoguo, like a treecreeper, climbed slowly up to his chest, her small, pink tongue gently licking Liu Zhenhan’s chin.

Murmuring his war song, a brilliant halo flashed by, and Liu Zhenhan’s body was set alight with the fire of the sacrificial altar.

Liu Zhenhan’s three-age-old war songs, are always the secret weapon to overcome the enemy. The "Sacrificial War Song" is not merely a weapon for burning the soul. The flame may be weak, but it always has the effect of illuminating the darkness.

"Oh heck~ Oh heck~" The parrot fluttered its feathers in a flurry, appearing like a miniature version of the Fire Phoenix.

The Water Repelling Bead embedded in the large gold chain around Liu Zhenhan’s neck exerted an ineffable effect. Within a radius centred around his standing point, a three-dimensional water-repelling barrier formed, about twenty-five square meters in size. Through the glow of the altar fire, Liu Zhenhan found himself standing amidst an underwater forest, where countless towering trees blocked the overhead sky. These trees swayed their leaves slowly in the water current, rustling much like they had been brushed by a gentle breeze, with a rhythmic sway to either side.

Liu Zhenhan realized that when the "Starry Sky Gate" had opened, Avril and her Sea Clan attackers had been swimming deep beneath the sea. When he appeared, he plunged into the sea due to the effect of the Water Repelling Bead, landing on the treetops of the underwater forest, and then within it.

The Vajra Parrot frequently squawked obscenities as it flew in a bewildered circle, even plunging headfirst outside of the Water Repelling Barrier, before promptly flying back to perch on Liu Zhenhan’s shoulder, burying itself in his hair and trembling violently.

Although the altar fire did not generate heat, the coldness of the deep sea was no different from Mount Tamerlarya. Both Liu Zhenhan and Guoguo were unaffected, but the foul-mouthed parrot could hardly endure it, especially after coming into contact with the icy currents outside the water barrier.

Guoguo hopped on the ground, curiously scanning their surroundings with Liu Zhenhan. The firelight wasn’t strong enough, so Liu Zhenhan picked Guoguo up and placed him on his head and turned around in a circle.

The trees in the underwater forest were gigantic. At first glance, their bark looked no different from surface trees. The spacing between trees was reasonably wide. Liu Zhenhan touched a tree, finding it as soft as seaweed. To the left, there was an enormous rocky mountain. Its exact height was unknown to Liu Zhenhan, but the rock before him looked like a fierce beast with its rugged corners covered in seaweed and shells.

The Sea Clan’s speed was extremely fast underwater. Catching up to Avril by walking could take a month, possibly longer. Only then did Liu Zhenhan remember that he had not managed to get Guoguo into the Medusa Badge. However, this didn’t bother him. Liu’s eyes rotated and called upon the Winged Pegasus Holy Knight from the "Death Lord Ring".

Indeed, as a treasure of nature, the Water Repelling Dragon Bead worked wonders. With a slight thought from Liu Zhenhan, the Water Repelling Barrier changed into a smaller shape. The total area remained the same, but it was now more accommodating for the giant wings of the Pegasus.

With the Winged Pegasus flapping its wings, the sound of the aircurrent and the sound of tree crowns breaking echoed continuously. The Pegasus forcefully burst a path through the soft seaweed-like underwater trees.

An unfamiliar sky appeared before Liu Zhenhan, who gradually ascended.

The seabed was not dark at all!

In the distance, a mystically lit city appeared before Liu Zhenhan, wrapped by the prolonged underwater forest. However, the city’s outline could still be discerned clearly. Moreover, even in the seawater just outside the Water Repelling Barrier, there were occasionally luminous fish swimming by. In the vast deep ocean, there were numerous such fish glowing like stars.

Liu Zhenhan felt unlucky, appearing in the middle of the sea only to tumble into an underwater forest overgrown with dense canopies and tall mountains blocking his entire view. If he was a bit more extreme in his thinking, he might have already despaired to death by now.

Through these spots of light, Liu Zhenhan noticed the differences between the seabed and the surface world were minimal. There were mountains, forests and cities. The only difference was that their sky was made of seawater.

Although he did not know where Avril was, Liu Zhenhan decided he should first visit this underwater city.

The Pegasus shot towards the unfamiliar and mysterious underwater city like lightning.

Some plotlines take time to unravel, so please be patient when reading. This book isn’t a web novel; there is no such thing as a benign or neutral party. A magical beast is a magical beast, magic is magic. There is no evil or sanctity to speak of, mutual restraint doesn’t imply any particular issue.

Does a white Pegasus represent righteousness? Are ugly magical beasts evil? Nonsense.
