Chapter 454: Chapter 98: Holy Curse_2

Lord Liu Zhenhan could not possibly give up the fight. He swore that he wouldn’t return to bury the Komodo War Behemoth unless he defeated that father-son duo.

Till now in this battle, none of the Feilengcui’s soldiers had fallen, but the Komodo War Behemoth was dead. How can Liu Zhenhan, who is protective by nature, not be furious?

Even though the two Fairy Dragons and Ning Yu tried to persuade him and Helen also suppressed her grief, comforting him with a forced smile, no one could have predicted the terrifying power of wind magic, which even a Fairy Dragon with elemental immunity and a Wind-Resistant Bead couldn’t resist. Liu Zhenhan’s intention to quell the enemy without a fight wasn’t wrong. Any commander would be unable to resist this tactic in any battle.

However, Liu still regretted it deeply.

He knew that even if he hadn’t placed that bet, given the power of the Time Standstill scroll and the strength of the humans, casualties in the defense battle were inevitable. He tried to convince himself of this, but he was still unable to shake off the guilt he felt for the death of the Komodo War Behemoth.

Everything in Feilengcui was built by his own hands; the loss of any of it would break his heart.

The only way he could atone for it was by vanquishing the commander of the Tornado Mercenary Group.

Captain Gatuso, his son Thomas and his immediate guards were the best in the mercenary group. The sacrifices of the infantry had bought them time to escape. After a night of madly rushing out, they had managed to put a hundred miles between them and the Light Cavalry.

Of course, they had not forgotten to bring along the three mages.

"As long as the green hills are there, one need not worry about firewood". Gatuso understood this principle better than anyone.

He prepared himself mentally to meet the Overlord of Piegel again. One could fly and the other would run on the surface; a decisive battle was inevitable.

He still had a hundred guards, three mages, two high-level wizards, and some powerful warriors. With such power, even if they were to fight a dragon, it wasn’t impossible to win. Captain Gatuso deeply regretted that his son, Thomas, wasn’t resourceful enough. If he still had the Winged Pegasus, wouldn’t his chances of survival increase?

Aside from making all these preparations, the cunning Captain Gatuso had wisely chosen a wild road along the edge of pine forest at the foot of Mount Tamerlarya as his return path.

Gatuso didn’t veer towards the distant pine forest edge for no reason. He was guarding against the Beamon overlord. In case of being caught, the best thing would be to slip into the pine forest. If they caught him, it just meant he was out of luck.

Although he thought so happily inside, seeing the terrifying hairless bird in real life sent a shiver down Gatuso’s spine, he had seen what happened to the Golden Giant Dragon.

The encounter with the hairless bird happened once they crossed a seemingly ordinary hill on the wild road. This place was quiet, with only sparse, low grass. The only substantial plants were the dry trees and berry bushes. Scattered Stone Statues and dried up grapevines covered the desolate and run-down landscape.

The hairless bird lay in a grass nest, created by the weight of its own body. It held its head with its wing and was shaving its stubble with a large cleaver, its claws raised high and swaying. There were several familiar faces around: Piegel priests and four beautiful ladies.

The short grass around them gave the mercenaries a clear view. After observing that there were no ambushes, the persistent side of humanity revealed itself in Captain Gatuso. He kicked his horse forward to meet them.

Feilengcui Lord stood in the middle of the road with Helen, Ning Yu and the two Fairy Dragons. Except for Avril who fainted due to the fright from the Base Dragon, the entire lord’s family was on a mission. Guoguo was flexing her arms on the side, and even the parrot started to swear as the first attack on the group of humans.

The Base Dragon, as Helen’s new magical pet, lay on one side with its mouth wide open. Round-headed and round-eyed, with a flat nose and recessive eyes, it looked silly.

Thomas timidly asked his father if they should scatter and run away, which received a round of scolding from his father.

Thomas carefully asked whether they should first hide in the forest? His old man nearly fainted out of anger.

If they scattered now, they would be defeated one by one. No matter how fast they ran, could they be faster than a bird flying in the sky? Entering the forest was nonsense. Once they entered the forest, they would be trapped. Their opponent’s magical beast was a Fire Elemental, and the pine forest was very conducive to fire. If their enemy wasn’t compassionate and decided to start a forest fire, the question of whether they could escape would be severe. They wouldn’t play this card unless it was their last resort! Gatuso accepted for the first time in his life that his son was a complete fool. Even though he used to think his son was smart.
