Chapter 440: Chapter 96 Immortal Crane Divine Needle_1
"The Feilengcui militia, less than a hundred strong, are a force to be reckoned with." -- A lesson learned by the Tornado Mercenary Group.
**********************************************************************
At last, the humans retreated to regroup their forces.
Watching the bloody chaos outside, Count Totti of the Shalba clan couldn’t help but laugh uproariously in his large cave dwelling. The plight of the Tornado Mercenary Group filled him with glee. He used to think he was very unfortunate, but now he felt as if he couldn’t be happier.
Soon after, the count shivered in cold.
Feilengcui Lord Richard had constantly insulted him, and the Earl had plans...
Thinking back now, those ideas...
The count turned to look at the group of Feilengcui militia beside him.
Korina and her mammoth powerhouses were wiping their long knives. On the rack by their feet, laid huge steel blades with each fork, these strong mammoths gazing at their gleaming knives as if they were their own children. Hippo O’Neal was singing a new song from a worn-out booklet. His giant shield and battle axe were tucked under his arm, while his fellow poets intermittently chimed in with high-pitched female voices singing "Ave Maria!"
The Mastiff people were boasting to Rovi. Count Totti couldn’t fathom how these gentle figures were the same ones who had leaped upon the Berserkers in battle, shredding the last of them into pieces with their teeth.
War seemed to have no connection with these warriors; they were more concerned with their mounts in the nearby stables than the war outside.
Count Totti had never seen warriors like this before. These Bimon warriors seemed as if their hearts were forged from everlasting ice and their souls molded from steel.
Fortunately, not all the warriors were like the Feilengcui militia. Count Totti breathed a sigh of relief.
Where there is laughter, there are tears, and Captain Gatuso was one of those crying.
Out of the four infantry brigades, only one brigade survived the ordeal, following the main attack. Less than 500 men returned, everyone wounded with blue flames flickering over their heads and faces, their weapons and courage all buried at the base of that ice city.
The entire brigade of archers was gone, a thousand archers, none of whom had hit a single enemy, completely annihilated.
All the siege towers were destroyed, the trebuchets gone. These are not equipment a mercenary group could afford. Gatuso spent a significant amount of money and time acquiring them. But today, everything vanished into thin air along with the 500 supply soldiers responsible for the machinery. The massive Tornado transport team was reduced to only one base dragon and a line of supply wagons.
Although the sun hadn’t set yet, Captain Gatuso was filled with a sense of desolation as if the hero’s twilight had arrived.
Weeping for the cunning and patience of the Bimon, and for half of his lost assets, Captain Gatuso’s old tears flowed unabatedly.
The troops had been regrouped. With 5,000 men at his disposal, including two teams of light cavalry, Captain Gatuso felt conflicted about his next move.
Time slipped away bit by bit, and the humans finally made a move.
In the end, they chose not to retreat.
"Honorable Feilengcui Lord! Allow me first to express my reverence for your bravery and tactics in battle!" Gatuso’s words, amplified by a wind system magic teacher, came loud and clear despite the great distance.
Liu Zhenhan stood atop the Red Earth Highland to see what he had to say.
"As the leader of my cavalry, I heard that the Feilengcui Bimon warriors are hailed as the bravest under the stars. I, Gatuso. Danze, also believe that my soldiers are the best in the world!" Gatuso continued, "But the battle so far has shown these Bimons to be cowards, leaning on their superior position. This is an insult to the honorable title of ’bravest under the stars.’ I would like to issue a fair challenge to you, just like the recent duel of archers. With the same number of soldiers, we engage in a knightly duel!"
"Idiot." Liu Zhenhan turned around.
"At the moment, neither of us has enough strength to attack, and both are unassailable in defense! Since neither side has the power to attack, why not duel in a chivalrous way? I believe the brave Bimon warriors would not want to continue hiding in this ice city, correct?" Gatuso persisted.
"We only need a small number of warriors to participate in the duel! On the open space to the left of the hill! It will be fair! Do the Bimon warriors not have any men left? If there are any men, they should step forward!" Gatuso added another challenging statement.
Liu Zhenhan stopped in his tracks.
"The humans have started using tactics." Daisy wore a bemused expression. "But will this baiting strategy work?"
