Chapter 434: Chapter 94 - Luxurious Magic Circle Lineup_3
Other than the incessant pelting of the bed crossbows and catapults, all the other mercenaries turned into spectators, appreciating the spectacle of mercenaries climbing up.
Captain Gatuso felt there was absolutely no sense of achievement! It was simply too easy!
The troops encircling on three sides advanced all the way to Red Earth Square, and the Beamons did not react at all. They just allowed him to draw near, not even dispatching an archer to shoot a couple of arrows in protest. He had prepared countless backup plans for this, yet it was surprisingly simple to advance. Once the infantry detachments entered and cleared the two upper levels of cave dwelling along the Qianmo Passage, and then directly headed to the first level, Captain Gatuso felt the battle should come to an end.
Before he had even time to smile, gigantic magical beasts emerged from each of the four caverns on the second, the floor which he considered to be the least defended. They emitted brilliant flashes of light. There was even a Komodo War Behemoth that popped out from one of the cavern mouths! The beasts stood cunningly deep in the cavern, unseen by the ground archers. But they had a vantage point to see the high tower carriage and the emerging infantry.
With a few thunderous roars, fireballs, lightning, water columns, ice bullets, and acid sprayed out of the caverns, all aimed at the tower carriage. Although the two tower carriages were partially encased in iron sheets, they were mainly constructed of wood, and could not withstand the relentless onslaught of these humongous magical beasts at such close range. They were instantly submerged by the various magic attacks, as people and thick smoke were blown skyward, throwing human beings into shock with this sudden attack.
Captain Gatuso almost tumbled from the back of his Nightmare horse.
Three human mages positioned behind the archers could see these magical beasts, as well as Beamon shamans with musical instruments on each beast. The mages were no gods. The sudden appearance of seven large magical beasts, with the tower so close to them, could not be thwarted, even if they wanted to. Worse still, their retaliatory magic attacks immediately disappeared as ripples at the mouth of the cavern.
Only the Scepter Shaman could dispel magic! Captain Gatuso’s face contorted with rage.
From where did these seven Scepter Shamans suddenly appear? In terms of their titles, the Scepter Shamans are equivalent to the Magic Teachers among human mages! Although a single Scepter Shaman may not be able to beat an intermediate mage in a duel, the concept changes with seven Scepter Shamans together. No wonder the shaman stayed in such a large cavern. It turned out he was accompanied by a Komodo War Behemoth! This one beast could at least fend off a high-level mage!
The current scenario was that the Tornado Mercenary Group only had three mages. Although they all held high ranks, and one of them was a Magic Teacher from the Pompeii Empire, the power comparison was utterly imbalanced.
The archers, in their bewilderment, fired arrows randomly, not knowing where to aim. The magic attacks of the six magical beasts wreaked havoc on the ground. Although they couldn’t see their adversaries, the magic attacks of the beasts ranged from three hundred to five hundred yards. The crowded infantry and archers on the Red Earth Square didn’t need any explanation. The instant magic of these beasts were indiscriminate like shaving the head, wreaking havoc among the archers and shields, and the priests couldn’t keep up, even with the "Holy Light Healing" in use.
"Retreat! Retreat!" Captain Gatuso shouted at the chaotic mess of mercenaries, frantically waving at the other contingent of archers to rush forward and cover the unfortunate mercenaries’ retreat with a dense rain of arrows.
Captain Gatuso watched with his own eyes as a Komodo War Behemoth sprayed a stream of acid, causing a group of people on the ground to howl in pain as their faces smoked. The sight broke Captain Gatuso’s heart.
The reinforcing archers could only see these magical beasts from five hundred yards away. But the arrows couldn’t reach the beasts from that distance. Even with the priests’ "Divine Power" augmentation, the long-range arrows were not only inaccurate but were also blocked early by the followers of the shamans.
To make matters worse, three figures had sneaked up to the peak of the Red Earth Highland without anyone noticing. One of them had summoned a "Sea of Fire", while the other two had thrown down a "Cyclone Slash" and a pitifully small fireball.
"Sea of Fire" and "Cyclone Slash", both big-area damage spells, were effectively ideal against densely crowded groups like this. The mercenaries who were hit were in a bad state. Although the magic of the magical beasts were battle-oriented, their destructive powers were limited, except for the one Komodo War Behemoth. However, the magic spells conjured by the mages were different, especially the Sea of Fire. Although it was only an intermediate-level spell, it could burn an area of about one hundred square meters and was deadly to the extreme. Although water spells were typically not very powerful, that was only relative. The high-level water spell "Cyclone Slash" was like three rolling razors, and its linear destructive power would not disgrace the reputation of high-level magic.
