Chapter 427: Chapter 93 - The Age of Miracles_1
Fei Wenli pompously flew back to Fellyn.
When the fire crane left, it was a glowing red beacon of pride, but on its return it resembled a plucked chicken that had crawled up from a boiling pot. It shared the same flight pattern, yet elicited different emotions in people.
All the eyes in Fellyn were fixed on it, each gaze filled with incredulous amusement that was impossible to hide.
Everyone had seen the fire crane’s gallant swagger just beforehand, but now it was abruptly transformed into a plucked mess, the stark contrast left everyone feeling like they had broken out in goosebumps, which mirrored the fire crane’s newly molting appearance.
This was especially true when the fire crane, with its gleaming bare wings, clumsily landed in Red Earth Square as though it was drunk. It was a sight that made one’s hair stand on end, enough to even unnerve the God of War Kampas should he arrive.
It was impossible to describe how everyone felt at that moment. It was simply eerie.
Only Daisy and Ruona were exempt as they had been warned halfway by Liu Zhenhan. The initial chill they felt after first seeing the naked crane had diminished during the flight, and they had reluctantly accepted the sight. As knowledgeable members of the Dragon Clan, their understanding of the fire crane’s abilities ran deeper than others.
Before their lord could summon them, Elder Andulan led four apprentice monks and the Witch Doctor Nochadamas to Red Earth Square immediately. They began to treat the fire crane from every angle, while several Scepter Shamans followed, examining the shocking wounds on the fire crane’s body.
A large group of onlookers trailed behind them.
"Fei Wenli’s been poisoned!" the lord yelled as he dismounted the fire crane with a tumble. He tightly clutched a crossbow bolt as he shouted at Elder Andulan.
His burly arm was tightly wrapped in a linen cloth, soaked with fresh blood which made the fabric a dark, moist red.
The three madams teared up and touched Fei Wenli’s injuries with great distress. Even though the wounds were slowly healing, they felt devastated. Seeing Richard’s arm caused their tears to flow even quicker than the Sanggan River.
Even Gortani was wiping the corners of her eyes. Seeing such a beautiful and majestic crane turn into this state broke her heart. Of course, seeing Piegel, who may have the appearance of a pig, but not the temperament, injured also caused a twinge of pain in her heart.
Once the fire crane landed, it squawked loudly out of habit. This once elegant gesture was now hilarious, so much so that it amused some of the simpler-minded Orcs, such as Fat Luo. Despite his injury, he was still jumping around taking in the spectacle.
No one can really blame him. Seeing a giant bird, featherless with just a poof of hair left on its bare butt and a red crowned crest on its bald head, necking and posing, was indeed quite comical.
"This is absolutely the poison gland of the Human-faced Spider." Elder Andulan held the bolt handed to him by the lord up to his nose and sniffed, speaking with certainty, "The smell of this gland is unique with a tinge of orange. No other poison has this scent. The Human-faced Spider is a hybrid descendant of the underworld lord of the Demon Clan and the Aegean Continent’s Black Widow Giant Spider, unique to the Thunder Mountain Range."
A few of the Scepter Shamans observing the Witch Doctor also inspected the bolt and nodded in agreement, whether they truly understood or not, they affirmed Andulan’s statement.
"Fei Wenli’s resistance to poison is outrageous; to think it could still fly back here after being poisoned by a Human-faced Spider." Elder Andulan clicked his tongue, "I’ve inspected its wounds. There is no sign of severe poisoning, and its wound isn’t discharging any purulent blood. The poison shouldn’t hinder it much, it might just feel dizzy for a few days at most."
Upon hearing that Fei Wenli was alright, Liu heaved a sigh of relief.
"That’s not right! According to the notes passed down by our YunQin travelers, Wave Breaking Fire Cranes are the natural enemies of all venomous creatures. It should be impervious to all poison! The Fei Wenli Python is a prehistoric poisonous beast. If it isn’t afraid of that, shouldn’t the Human-faced Spider’s poison be less potent?" asked Ning Yu, with her teary eyes full of confusion.
"When compared to the potency of the Fei Wenli Python’s poison, the Human-faced Spider’s poison is like a potato compared to a pumpkin. Its poison is potent, but it’s nowhere near as deadly as the Fei Wenli Python’s. However, its venom does contain a powerful dizzying component. It’s this toxin that the Human-faced Spider uses to stun its prey, before wrapping them in a cocoon to eat later." Elder Andulan shrugged, "What I find odd is this, Fei Wenli should have... as soon as it was poisoned by the Human-faced Spider..."
Elder Damai subtly mimed the action of falling from a great height, given the size of the fire crane, even if it were made of iron, it should have been smashed in half following such a fall.
"The dizzying effect of the Human-faced Spider’s poison is indeed the most potent." Daisy interjected, "That poison can instantly incapacitate even a member of the Dragon Clan who has exceptional resistance to poison. Of course, it would only incapacitate and not kill."
