Chapter 361: Chapter 78: The Bloody Sanggan River_1

The terrible calamity descended.

On the southern bank of the Sanggan River, the Red Earth Highland was like a volcano in eruption, burning the horizon with a flare.

The clear waters of the Sanggan River had completely turned into bubbling sludge near the shores. Large bubbles rose to the surface, and plump fish leaped out of the water, slapping the surface and creating waves.

Countless gophers rushed out of the bamboo groves, biting at each other. Sparrows and ravens flew low in flocks across the sky, their sharp and frantic screams cut short as they got caught in the menacing cheering of the magical flame spirits over the Red Earth Highland and quickly incinerated into flying ashes.

Several terrified cave wolves were howling in chorus, their eyes turned blood red, and they chased and bit each other frantically.

This was the terror of human magic!

The destructive power of the "City Burning with Earth’s Fire" magic scroll was probably beyond what Master Otigha himself expected. It stimulated all small creatures on the Donau Wasteland with a psychic bombardment akin to the end of the world.

Apart from feeling a bit distressed, deep inside, Master Otigha was mostly proud.

This strategic corridor of death crippled the renowned "Metal Rose" mercenary troop. In the end, they had to rely on mages to end the fight.

He could imagine that soon, the bards of Dorott would sing praises of a particular mage across the entire Aegean Continent.

Smiling widely, Count Totti planted his shiny army boots solidly on the riverbank, completely immersed with ants. His red cloak fluttered in the wind.

Even though he had dealt with his stubborn opponent, the elegant prince of Dorott still felt a burning fury within, like the turbulent flames of an emerald.

This defensive battle had delayed the slave hunting group for quite a while. The Count couldn’t help but worry – worrying that the protagonist had escaped.

Through the "Eagle Eye Telescope," he could see the remnants of scattered debris on the riverbank of the other side. Large rafts, vine-boats, and broken ice clumps were drifting downstream. Low-statured figures were running everywhere in the reed beds on the river bank - hedgehog herders were catching the scattered Larza Beasts.

What was that? The Count’s breath became still.

A crowd of people on the riverbank caught his attention.

The Fawkes beauty! Clam Girl from the Far east! Beautiful snake! Mermaid!

And that Swan beauty with white feathers! The one who was wearing a cloak.... What an incredibly stunning face!

The count was uncontrollably trembling as he held the "Eagle Eye Telescope." He had expected to find five top-class beauties, but here were six! He could confirm without any doubt that except for the one in the cloak – the rest of the five were absolutely the Beamon beauties that he had seen before in the Memory Crystal Ball – the ones he had set out to hunt through thousands of miles!

About three hundred goblin soldiers summoned by the six beauties formed a sparse defence line on the riverbank. Astonishingly, they were still organizing the scattered formations and comforting the crying Vassal Clans. They hadn’t even attempted to leave yet!

The Count closed his eyes, silently praying. After re-assessing the scene and ensuring that he wasn’t hallucinating, he couldn’t hold back in using the cheesiest words to praise God for his generosity and kindness.

However, looking back at their own progress in crossing the river, the count’s praises immediately turned into angry roars. The count, famed for his ease and grace, saw his face instantly distort, spouting vulgar curses like the overflowing river.

Jennifer, the leader of the "Metal Rose," commanded her remaining two long spear wielding sections and two sections of archers to form the left-right wings. Despite using rafts to cross the river, they had formed a defensive "U" shape. The heavy scythe-wielders in the middle, acting as the main advance force, were too heavy for the rafts to carry more than two at a time, thus, only half of these forces managed to cross in the first trip, with the remaining fifty waiting for the next batch of rafts.

The rafts carrying the heavy scythe-wielders moved slowly, so the pace of the "Metal Rose" mercenaries became sluggish.

As the backbone of the "Metal Rose" mercenary group, four squads of light cavalry, lacking sufficient tools to cross the river, were left waiting helplessly on the bank.

"Jennifer! You idiot, what are you even waiting for! Is the large sum of money I paid you for allowing our prey another hour to escape?!" The Count’s roar was so loud that it could have reversed the flow of river Sanggan.

"But ... how can we cross the river without the equipment?" Jennifer, the female leader of the "Metal Rose," muttered quietly after suddenly being berated, her face had gone unnaturally dark.

"You fools! Strip off your heavy gear and swim across lightly!" The Count whipped his whip around randomly, hitting the nearby members of the slave hunting group.

"Quick, quick, quick!"

The call to urge the horses drowned out the sound of the rushing Sanggan River.

The five hundred cavalrymen of the Count’s slave hunter group immediately unfastened the heavy equipment, like flails and shields, from their saddles. They whipped their reins and spurred their warhorses straight into the icy river. Amidst the splashes, the ripples from the cold water made the warhorses exhale out puffs of hot air intermittently, breaking the ice surface with a continuous crunching sound.
