Chapter 351: Chapter 76: When Antiques Meet Antiques_1
The Shalba family, a first-rate slave hunting group, was almost near Feirencui by noon the next day, except for the luggage team. Their view was obstructed by a bamboo forest while the massive figure of the Red Earth Highland protruded from the horizon.
The weather today was quite pleasant, with a dry cold spreading across the wilderness. The northern wind, for once, was not howling, offering an unusual serenity.
Earl Shalba held an Eagle Eye Telescopic Glass in his hand, observing carefully. The Eagle Eye Glass, a magical equipment made by adding Eagle Eye Technique to expensive magical silver and pure crystals, could marvelously bring the objects 500 meters away up close. Only a powerful family like the Shalbas could own such equipment.
The outlook of Feirencui was clearly built for military purposes. Earl Totti, a veteran in dealing with prey, easily figured out the terrain layout. However, it wouldn’t be a challenge to him. Having focused on siege warfare in the Empire’s military academy, at least a hundred tactics of attack sprung up in his mind.
From afar, they could hear a commotion. Their scouts had circled Feirencui and reported that thousands of Bimon Beastmen were hurriedly crossing the Sanggan River on rafts. Some even falling into the river in their panicked state.
Hearing this news, a scornful smile spread across the Earl’s face.
"Who would have thought that these Orcs lacked nerve? It’s a shame, I was looking forward to a siege." The Prince Consort pushed away the Eagle Eye Telescopic Glass in his hand, giving it to a slave by his side.
"They won’t escape," asserted Jennifer, the captain of the Metal Rose Mercenary Corps.
Without further instructions, the slave hunters prominently moved out to chop down bamboo and build rafts on the spot. Their efficiency and clear division of tasks spoke volumes about their experience.
The remaining few scouts in the slave hunters leapt off their horses and headed for the Red Earth Highland. The sight of this stirred an eagerness within the mercenaries of the Metal Rose Corps as they looked at their captain in anticipation.
Captain Jennifer waved her whip, with her troops following suit towards the Red Earth Highland with enthusiastic cries.
The slave hunters’ scouts were heading to the top of the Red Earth Highland for reconnaissance, but these mercenaries intended to seize whatever they could get. Their different abilities were clear as day.
Count Totti entered the Bimon Territory known to them as the wild world, leading his soldiers down the wide bamboo road. The exquisite magic fountain in Red Earth Square had been extinguished, but that didn’t diminish the foreign sensations induced in these human scavengers.
Gazing up at the vast Red Earth peak, Earl said with a sigh, "Never imagined this place being more secluded than my country villa. A moat instead of these small streams crossing the forest, and a castle here instead of the Red Earth Highland, would surely have made our victory today more challenging."
"The Orc barbarians cannot comprehend your military intellect and commanding ability, Earl. Once you ascend the Regent’s throne, you can lead an expedition west and teach these barbaric Orcs a lesson," said the female captain of the mercenary corps, knowing what to say at this time.
Praise, no matter how ridiculous, always made the Earl’s face shine with delight.
Their contentment did not last long, as scouts that ran to the top of Red Earth Highland screamed in agony. A few blurred figures tumbled down from the two-story Red Earth steps.
Hearing the commotion, the Earl immediately turned his horse around, leading his soldiers to gather at the foot of the only Red Earth Highland stairs.
A few mercenaries emerged from the large dining hall and joined them, looking annoyed with empty hands; they evidently didn’t manage to acquire anything.
Atop the stairs stood Piegel, clad in bronze armor, surrounded by half a dozen giant Elephant Warriors.
Despite the staggering distance, the overwhelming aura of the Elephant Warriors was palpable for each human plunderer.
As if their bodies were made of bronze and rocks, with their long beards neatly braided and hanging over their chest, they held an air of classical beauty. Their golden body armor, coupled with the terrifyingly long knives in their hand, sent chills down one’s spine. Many mercenaries recoiled in fear.
The ominous Elephant Warriors brought an intense intimidation, especially with their bizarre long blades.
"So, there’s some force in the Bimon Territory after all. Elephant Warriors! No wonder my scouts suffered heavy losses," grumbled Count Totti.
It was evident that these fighters were pawns left to hold the rear, an act which was essentially a suicide mission. Even if they were strong, Elephant Warriors weren’t invincible. The Earl’s smile broadened.
"I want them alive, dear Captain Jennifer," Count Totti turned around and ordered.
If all the Elephant Warriors were captured alive, the price they would fetch should cover the cost of hiring the Heavy Scythe-wielders. How could the Shalba family not tally this account?
"Serving Your Highness is my honor," Jennifer, captain of the Metal Rose Mercenary Corps, nodded, agreeing to capture the warriors alive.
