Chapter 292: Chapter 57: A Worthy Opponent_4
As to why they had been fighting fiercely one moment and now doing this on the battlefield, no one really knew why, but everyone did it spontaneously.
With her chubby little butt shaking, Katusha waddled over to Liu Zhenhan and rubbed her head against her father’s leg.
The bandits were deliberately holding their breaths. They, too, didn’t know why, but they were all doing it spontaneously.
The monks approached the battlefield, using prayer to soothe Korina’s wound. They looked as peaceful and serene as if they were walking into their own garden.
"Are you coming out or not? You treacherous ambusher!" Liu Zhenhan glared at the gnomes who were obviously huddled together.
The gnomes had assembled themselves into a wall, clearly trying to hide some significant figure.
"If you don’t come out, then you all can die!" Liu Zhenhan crouched to pick up the little piglet as a brilliant water arrow traced a beautiful arc in the air.
The pure water magic arrow had the power of a crossbow. The close-range bombardment reminded him of his mischievous childhood when he would use a stick to knock over the rapeseed flowers in his neighbour’s yard.
That was similar! A sweep to topple a row, without any reservations. A malicious smile was plastered on Liu Zhenhan’s face.
The gnome bandits watched helplessly as their comrades were instantly riddled with holes. Having suffered heavy attacks over and over again, they became somewhat indifferent. Their will to fight was already shattered the instant the courageous Piegel warrior broke into the battlefield.
Against this piglet spraying magical water arrows, the bandits who had been tormented by the Golden Figures had no emotional fluctuation left.
An expression of quiet resignation awaiting death emerged on their faces.
The strong wind from the water arrow blew away the falling snowflakes. The dreamlike mist hanging in the air resembled the drizzle of early spring, giving a refreshing feeling on the face when blown by the north wind.
A layer had condensed on Guoguo’s eyelashes, and soon, droplets the colour of her eyes began to form, on the brink of falling.
No wonder they were the most disciplined gnomes. Even in the face of such a devastating attack, none of them discarded their weapons.
Katusha stopped the water arrow spray. In front of Liu Zhenhan lay a field of bodies - one particularly drew his attention. He wore exquisite copper armor and continued his futile counterattack against Liu Zhenhan before he died. He was unique in being the only gnome to resist, hence he died the fastest.
He was a very clean gnome, something that stood out amongst his kind. He had no odour, instead emitting a faint fragrance of bitter plum flowers from the wilderness.
Among the gnomes, only those with superior intellect cared about cleanliness and hygiene. These gnomes were invariably the rulers of the gnome race.
Even under the intense assault of magical water arrows, his face remained miraculously unscathed.
Looking at the mould-covered grey face, Liu Zhenhan suddenly found this gnome not so ugly. If one looked closely at its outline and facial features, it even seemed handsome.
Underneath this gnome’s crushed body, Liu Zhenhan drew out a cylindrical bronze object - the shooter of the copper bullet that injured Korina, the Knight of Spurs.
The ancient-looking cylindrical rod was engraved with intricate patterns. Although it was polished to a shine, the signs of time were still evident. Liu Zhenhan instantly recognised it as a relic from ancient times. The rough yet spirited pattern and the cuneiform on it did not fit the style of the present era.
It was actually a Bronze Firegun from the ancient Demon War!
Even though it was within his expectations, Liu Zhenhan’s hands trembled nevertheless.
This was undoubtedly the Bronze Firegun that the ingenious Goblin Wise Man Gablin and the Dwarf Wise Man De’ogen researched and created during the Demon War a millennium ago!
A millennium ago, due to its complex manufacturing process, only one hundred of these Bronze Fireguns were ever made. Now, one was perfectly intact in front of Liu Zhenhan!
This one-foot long Bronze Firegun, even the trigger and grip were engraved with hollow patterns, embedded with large pure gems, and it even had a half-foot long gunsword attached to the gun muzzle.
The beautifully decorated Firegun didn’t exhibit any beauty, neither in its pattern nor its design - only an intimidating aura of slaughter.
Looking down the gun muzzle, even after countless years of weathering, the rifling inside was still perfectly intact.
"Hand-cut barrel grooves!" Liu Zhenhan felt as if something was stuck in his chest.
The illustrious image of the red-robed ancient Dwarfs wielding Bronze Fireguns and battling the Gargoyles and Obsidian Destroyers of the Demon Clan is vividly depicted in the "Ceremonial Code" even today.
No matter how beautifully it was rendered in the "Ceremonial Code", it couldn’t compare to the thick sense of historical vicissitudes and accumulation when holding this Firegun in his hands.
After the historical river washed everything away, the ancient Dwarfs who once wielded the Bronze Fireguns in uncompromising battles against the invading demons have now devolved into the most dim-witted Dwarfs, even their numerical cognition was vague; and the gnomes, they have degraded into bandits and thugs.
"The right to survive..." Liu Zhenhan stared at the Bronze Firegun in his hand, murmuring to himself as he walked out from the midst of the dumbstruck bandits.
His words seemed like he was questioning himself, and yet, it also seemed as if he was questioning someone else.
At Karu’s signal, the slaves rushed up and their blood-stained weapons once again slashed towards the numb and demoralized gnome bandits.
Blood splattered as the militia coldly looked on.
"All of you freaking stop! I’m giving them the right to suicide!" Liu Zhenhan lifted his head and roared.
