Chapter 273: Chapter 52 Accidental Encounter_1
The sky was gloomy tonight, and Xiang Pa had gone off somewhere. Gortani buried her face in her wings, her shoulders trembling with sobs.
The fierce night breeze blew her long hair, fluttering non-stop. As Richard approached, a strand of her hair lightly brushed his nose, bringing a pleasant aroma like the osmanthus flowers of his hometown, but not quite.
She was still a little girl, the daughter of the master of his own master’s master, practically family. How did it come to this? Richard suddenly felt a twinge of guilt.
He took off his feather coat from his shoulder and gently draped it over Gortani’s back.
Gortani felt the warmth and looked up to see Richard, the Pigiel tribe overlord. She jumped up in anger and glared at him, with a teardrop glistening in her beautiful eyes.
"I’m sorry..."
"Get lost!" Gortani said.
"There was no bad blood between us, and I do not wish to have any either." Richard said, "What was done was done, and you cannot avoid it. Perhaps laughing it off might help."
Gortani did not respond.
"You’re not the only one who’s made a fool out of themselves, it happened to me too." Richard continued.
"Nonsense! Unless someone..." Gortani couldn’t hold back her retort, but she could not bring herself to finish the sentence. Richard didn’t need to guess to know Gortani was probably blushing now.
Richard chuckled, and went on to tell her about an adventure he once had in the Dark Elves’ den, revealing everything.
Richard was good at telling stories with no crude language, and Gortani was a little fascinated by his recount.
"Wasn’t that embarrassing?" Richard chuckled, "I didn’t even dare to tell Ning Yu and Avril about it."
"Why would you tell me then?" Gortani asked.
"I feel like I owe it to you." Richard admitted, "I used to merely dislike you, just that, no hatred. I do not wish for a pure-hearted girl to live her entire life shadowed by gloom."
"I hate you, I even wanted to kill you." Gortani confessed, "Although I haven’t killed anyone before, I really wish you would be the first to die under my blade."
"That’s a pipe dream." Richard said bluntly, "In this world, those who can kill me are either in hell or heaven."
"You’re so arrogant."
"Fine, I won’t argue with you. Now that I’ve also shared my secret, do you feel a bit better?"
"Yes, much better." Gortani indeed felt a little more at ease.
"That’s how people are. If a man has no shoes, he feels unlucky, but when he sees a man with no feet, he’ll suddenly feel very fortunate." Richard chuckled.
"I’m going to tell Helen and Ning Yu all about your disgraceful act, so they can give up on you." Gortani surprisingly spat out the words as if she was holding a grudge.
"Don’t force me to hate you from disliking you." A chilly light flashed in Richard’s eyes.
"When you like someone, you always want to appear perfect in their eyes, and I’m no exception." Richard sighed, "It’s up to you. As long as I’ve said what I wanted from my heart."
"Anyway, I will definitely tell them, you ugly and despicable Piegel." Gortani articulated each word with venom, grinding her teeth.
"You nobles, besides judging people by their looks, what else can you do?" Richard sneered, "Isn’t the Piegel race considered Beamon too? I know you’ve been looking down on me since the first time you laid your eyes on me! Why was I despised? What gives you the right to despise me? Just because I’m a Piegel Beamon? Just because I’m ugly?"
"Because you’re both ugly and shameless, with not the slightest hint of nobility." Gortani replied.
"Are nobles always kind-hearted? What about the Musketeers’ fate? Nobility doesn’t just show in appearances, Knight Gortani!" Richard retorted with a sneer, "The fair and upright nobles of Heigar’s era have vanished a thousand years ago. If I were truly a reprobate, why would I come to apologize to you? I could easily spread this incident through the bards to see who would be more embarrassed."
"Then promise me, today... this incident will never be revealed, never." Gortani was completely taken aback by Richard and her voice began to waver with the threat of tears .
"I pledge on the god of War, I will never reveal what happened today. And I hope you can show the broad-mindedness true to the Swan Tribe, like the sky, and stop antagonizing me." Richard was about to laugh, somehow, this girl was now begging him.
"It’s a deal."
"It’s a deal! And lend me something." As Richard made their agreement, he plucked a feather from Gortani’s wings.
"What do you want to borrow..ah..." Gortani exclaimed in surprise, as Richard plucked a beautiful white feather right before her eyes.
A loud popping sound much like a firework explosion came from beneath the Red Earth Highland, drowning out her cry of pain.
"Damn it!" Richard saw a flash of red light and immediately jumped off the twenty-foot high cliff, rolling once he landed to get back on his feet.
It was the cave where he did his experiments.
The lights were on in all the caves with loud voices and clangs of weapons.
"Everyone go back to sleep! It’s nothing!" Richard, waving the white feather in his hand, shouted loudly. A few bare-chested militiamen carrying weapons rushed out, heard what the lord said, scratched their heads, and went back to sleep.
