Chapter 256: Chapter 45 - Confident and Unruffled_2

The human trader with warts, however, seemed quite daring, as shielded by a few heavily guarded mercenaries, he emerged from the crowd to negotiate with the robbers.

The corpses on the surrounding ground were divided and consumed by these Salt Demons and Green Demons.

Liu Zhenhan and the Mastiff People stood on the desolate mound, offering commentary, which made Ningyu and Avril feel sick.

"What do these robbers want exactly?" Liu Zhenhan frowned.

"Let’s kill them!" Korina was eager to fight.

The boss’s words had made him itch with curiosity. Salt scale armour, changing body colours, all would be genuinely tested under my ivory long knife.

"Yes, yes!" Vieri was also anxious.

"As a professional soldier, you should be patient. Whether it’s three days or three nights of hiding, there’s no need to be impatient. The Musketeer slaves are not in the heat of the battle. Although they haven’t escaped, none of them has died." Liu Zhenhan sneered, "I’m getting quite curious about these strange robbers."

Stranger things have happened on the prairie.

The Shalba slave trader with warts and the leader of the Salt Demons and Green Demons were having a heated discussion. Liu Zhenhan, being too far away, could not hear what they were talking about. After a long discussion, the human trader started gesticulating and pointing towards the Musketeer slaves tied to the cart, ending with fierce gesticulation.

Ningyu and Avril both could not fathom the specific reason for this. Ogres would never give up food, and these human beings were considered fresh meat in their eyes. If they were planning to use Musketeers as the price, would these robbers accept such a strategy?

After some negotiations, the robber leader indeed ordered the Green Demon and Salt Demon robbers to open a path, freeing these hundreds of remaining mercenaries and traders, and even returning some of their dried food.

Liu Zhenhan saw the Salt Demon robber leader give a friendly pat on the shoulder of the Shalba trader’s group leader.

Without looking back, these freed mercenaries and traders disappeared into the wilderness.

"What are they up to?" Liu Zhenhan did not believe for a second that these robbers had suddenly turned merciful. To these man-eating robbers, any moving and walking beings were food for them. How could they be so benevolent in the face of the imminent winter?

"Boss, should I take a few men and follow those humans?" Gude inquired.

"Chasing those humans doesn’t mean much, our primary objective is to rescue the Musketeers." Liu Zhenhan slowly shook his head: "The humans will return sooner or later. We can deal with them whenever we want, but these Green Demons and Salt Demons might not be here next year. I still want to observe more."

While the militiamen were discussing the inexplicable events, the Salt Demons and Green Demons started rapidly cleaning the battlefield.

The loot on the carts was piled high, all of it being half-eaten corpses. These gruesome bodies were dumped on the carts, the scapulas of the Musketeer captives were pierced with the demons’ long creepers like a skewer, guarded by over a thousand Green Demon and Salt Demon robbers, and slowly moved northward.

By the time Liu Zhenhan and the militiamen arrived to clean up the remaining bits, the human base was left with nothing but an eerie silence and a sight that would only be seen in Hell.

Bone-sticks, coated with crimson blood stains, were carelessly scattered on the ground. They were gnawed clean of any remaining flesh. Stepping on them, their boots made a crunching noise.

Ningyu and Avril stood from afar, the strong scent of blood so thick in the air that they didn’t dare to come closer.

The militiamen found several palm-sized pieces of salt crystal in the bushes. The salt crystals were clear and heavy in the hand, with a strange and disgusting smell.

"Rainwater must have broken the Salt Demon’s armour," Liu Zhenhan chuckled, crushing the hard salt pieces into powder.

Bellamy, with his keen eyes, found a silver coin stepped on and embedded in the mud and rainwater in a collapsed tent. This coin was intricately decorated and beautifully crafted with a crown on the front and tulips with tassels on the back. There were a few abbreviated letters of Saint Francisco on it.

This coin was the standard currency of the human territory of Saint Francisco. The craftsmanship of the silver coins of Bimon Kingdom was much cruder, with no ability to print letters or patterns on them. Therefore, the conversion rate between human coins and those of the Bimon Kingdom was two to one.

The measure of value can sometimes be peculiar.

Liu Zhenhan held this silver coin up to his mouth and blew on it before bringing it to his ear, and it produced a crisp sound.

"Capitalism," Liu Zhenhan said before confiscating the coin.

"Let’s go and kill them! Let’s rob all their stuff!" Gude, who had been rummaging around and found nothing but two packages of coffee beans and some crushed coffee pots from a fallen tent, said, with his eyes gleaming at the thought of the magnificent weapons the mercenaries and rangers had.
