Boiling Beast Bloodline -
Chapter 194 - 5_1
Chapter 194: Chapter 5_1
The grass was continuously retreating from the little Lich girl, yet there was no shadow at the front, "Don’t go! Humphrey, don’t leave me alone..."
The Lich girl extended her hand strenuously, her beautiful face filled with a look of stark terror.
However, no one answered her.
She who was stumbling about on the grasslands finally stumbled and fell, the view in front of her turned dark.
"Humphrey..."
The darkness, was still endless darkness.
"Is it you..."
Bauman, who was lying on her own bed, whispered, "Is it you, Desmond, standing there?"
There was no reply, at not far from the bedroom door, the black cloak of the mechanical butler seemed to blend into the darkness of the room.
"I should have told you..." Bauman reached out her hand, fumbling for her black crystal glasses on her bedside cabinet. As she put on her glasses, she slowly sat up, her curves beautifully outlined. After all, in front of a mechanical creature, her appearance in disarray and wearing only a nightgown was of no matter. "Not to enter my bedroom."
"Miss Bauman..." the answer of the mechanical butler finally came, "Your breakfast is ready."
The two suns of the Demon World had already risen into the sky as scheduled, yet the villa basking in the sunlight was eerily quiet today.
In the dining room, a cup of hot coffee was placed beside Bauman. The little Lich mistress was waving her fork and knife aimlessly, fiddling with the two perfectly cooked fried eggs on her plate, as the teeth-grinding sound of cutlery rang out from time to time.
"Yesterday... I fired you, didn’t I?" The Lich mistress who had lost her appetite finally spoke. Yet, there was no reply.
The place where the mechanical butler usually stood was clearly empty.
"Not here?" The mistress of the villa murmured to herself in perplexity. Then, she heard the piano, still played in a completely unpracticed manner.
The white fist holding the dining knife slammed heavily on the dining table. Bauman immediately stood up without hesitation and ran towards the studio as fast as she could.
Indeed, the person slowly playing the piano was the mechanical butler Desmond.
Miss Bauman angrily wanted to grab something to throw, but ever since the studio had been tidied up by the mechanical butler, there were no longer any miscellaneous musical instruments on the floor. After groping around for a while, the mistress got nothing. "I warned you not to touch my piano!!!"
"Miss Bauman, please spare a moment to listen. I feel that I’ve improved slightly..." The mechanical butler did not turn his head, nor did his crystal fingers show any sign of stopping.
"Improved?" The previous sneer appeared on Bauman’s lips again. "You mean improved?! For you mechanical creatures, the so-called ’improvement’ is nothing more than your body accepting spells orders increasingly harmoniously, being able to play more mechanical notes according to the instructions on the sheet music!"
The mechanical butler was clearly not affected by Bauman’s comments, his tone remained calm. "I’ve been trying to play the part you hummed, you can listen now..."
Desmond didn’t get to finish his sentence, for a crystal trumpet flew past his head. "The noise you make isn’t music!" Bauman somehow had felt her way to the place where the instruments were kept, and that throw was aimed at him following the sound.
"That kind of sound!" Accompanied by Miss Lich’s angry roar, a double bass of the same crystal material was also heavily pushed to the ground. "Does anything that you just input data into a memory core and then drum out can be called music?!"
The crystal violin was waved around in Bauman’s hands, hitting all sorts of instruments around. Big instruments occasionally fell to the ground, and some small ones were frequently knocked flying. "What the hell does that thing count as?!"
That the elegant and gentle Lich lady in the Demon World surprisingly spat out vulgar words might be enough to be considered news. But the current automaton butler clearly doesn’t care about it. He only stopped his own playing, attempting to use words to stop his enraged mistress. "If you continue like this, those instruments might be damaged by you."
"Hahaha..." Among the mess, the usually pale-faced Bauman, from overexertion, revealed an unnatural blush. "The instruments will get damaged? Are you wanting to protect your crystal kind?"
The Lich mistress of the villa slowly turned her body towards her crystal ghastly knight automaton butler, "You hypocrite! How many of your own kind have you personally destroyed on the battlefield? All the instruments here in this studio when added up are probably nothing compared to the number you destroy in a single battle, right?"
"Can you lift your cloak?" The crystal violin’s bow pointed straight at the automaton butler. "I have inquired about your past, so you can rest assured and open that cloak, let me see those ugly weapons on you. Let me see how many of your comrades you’ve killed with this pure and faultless crystal body!"
The automaton butler slowly stood up straight, slowly lowered his head, but made no other movements.
The deep red on Bauman’s face became more vibrant, and the corner of her mouth sneered, "Oh? No sense of resistance at all? A prominent weapon of slaying like you, would you be given instructions to maintain respect for the master no matter how insulting the situation?"
No answer.
"By the way, among the data inputted into your memory core before, was there any mention of my easily angered temperament? If not, it seems you need me to supplement that data for you?"
"That’s also good, let me tell you about the data that those in the Magic Guild would definitely not input to you! Those about why I would hum tunes in my dreams, that nightmare which lasted several decades... oh no, accurately speaking it’s not a dream, it should be something that really happened a few decades ago, when I had stepped onto the Aegean Continent by chance."
No answer, the automaton butler at this moment only needs to pose ready to listen.
"You should know clearly, not every Lich or Silver-Eyed can live a good life in the Demon World. My real name isn’t Ingrid Bauman, that name representing a broken-down nobility, I’ve long forgotten. From when I remember, my parents were already gone. I was fostered in a Silver-Eyed family which also wasn’t impressive. The name Bauman was given to me by them."
The expression on Miss Lich’s face had completely turned melancholy at this point, "I had always been weak from a young age, suffered from various diseases, all the simple spells that every Lich should be good at, because of physical reasons, I couldn’t master any. My eyes weren’t very good from that time, not many kids wanted to play with me, my only interest then was to sing alone."
"No... there was also another person who noticed me. That was the young master of the Silver-Eyed family, Humphrey Baojia. Even though he was only a kid around my age then, his good looks made him stand out even among the Silver-Eyed who bore many handsome men. He was never short of followers of all ages around him. Whether boys or girls, they all liked to play with him. Although his family wasn’t any distinguished nobility, he was never lacking in popularity."
"So, I fully didn’t understand, why a person as outstanding as him often enjoyed my company. Humphrey liked to sing with me, to space out looking at the sky at dusk, to make plans to count stars in the Aegean Continent’s night...""
"Of course, this worthless association was soon noticed by his family members. Humphrey was their only hope to restore their family’s former glory, how could such a priceless treasure be mixed with a waste girl like me? That’s why I was soon sent by this family to a foster home on another continent. Hehe, to break off Humphrey’s inappropriate thoughts, they really spared no expense on that..."
"In such a strange foster home, a frail and sickly me being bullied was common. Thankfully I was at least a Lich, so I didn’t actually suffer from any life-threatening danger. It’s just because of the poor conditions, the occasional high fevers increasingly damaged my eyes."
"Under these circumstances, the only thing that could comfort me was music. That foster home was opened by a great nobility, girls inside occasionally got the opportunity to do some simple labor work in the noble’s mansion. There was a piano in the mansion, used to show off the owner’s artistic taste on grand occasions. Although there weren’t many opportunities to perform, but because of this, it required careful maintenance. I was lucky to get that job, thereby first touching a non-crystal instrument."
"Ordinary practice and performance of the piano was the responsibility of some minor lady of that noble family. I don’t remember her name now, but she should have been married and changed her last name long ago. Because her lineage was not exactly honorable, if she didn’t have the talent of piano playing, she would likely have been sent to another noble family as a marriage tool, right? Maybe also because of this, she wasn’t domineering like other nobles. When I was doing odd jobs in the piano room, I often received her care, you could even say she was my first piano teacher."
"I originally thought my life would just pass by like this, who knew that the mansion would hold the usual cocktail party, and because of a shortage of hands, I was temporarily called to serve as a host."
"Then, I saw a familiar figure..."
