Chapter 168 - 168 8 The Creativity of Vine Armor_2

168: Chapter 8 The Creativity of Vine Armor_2 168: Chapter 8 The Creativity of Vine Armor_2 Ning Yu and Avril exchanged smiles.

For these pandas, who were skillful in managing the giant ships on the high seas, handling these smaller ones was a piece of cake.

“Sanggan River, it twists and turns, eighteen miles of waterway leads to the Red Earth Highland…”

“Came an overlord, named Richard yi ya wei…”

“Yi ya yi duo wei…”

The pandas’ resonant and high-spirited songcasting led the men and women on board to join in the chorus.

Upon hearing this song, Ning Yu and Avril couldn’t help but chuckled.

Richard was indeed an interesting fellow; the longer they spent around him, the stronger that feeling.

Despite being exiled to the frontlines of the Red Earth Highland, he still managed to find fun in adversity, even composing a song titled “Sanggan River” and teaching it to everyone.

“Gude!” Ning Yu called out to the panda pushing the boat with long poles at the bow.

“Drink less!”

“Got it!” Gude replied in a loud and energetic voice before taking two large gulps of rum from his wine skin.

Ever since the halflings arrived, the pandas felt as if they were in paradise with rum to drink every day.

However, after two incidents of “getting berserk” from drinking too much, their boss put a limit on their alcohol.

Now with their boss away and the two mistresses being easy to get along with, Gude was taking the opportunity to gulp down some more rum.

“Sister Ning Yu, I have an idea,” said Avril, with her face flushed, grabbing Ning Yu’s hand mysteriously.

“What idea?” Ning Yu smiled, patting the butt of the little piglet in her arms.

“We lack armor, don’t we?

Iron armor is too expensive, but we can make it ourselves!” Avril’s beautiful eyes sparkled.

“But we don’t know how to smelt steel!

We are not dwarves, we don’t have sensitive noses that can detect the presence of ores,” Ning Yu picked up Guoguo, who was lying beside her with a round belly, “I really want to help Richard make armor, but I already pawned my only jade piece last time and I don’t have enough money anymore.”

“Not necessarily!” Avril lightly patted the side of the boat, her eyes glittering with cunning.

“You mean…” Ning Yu’s eyes also lit up.

“We also need to share some of Richard’s responsibilities so he won’t be too mesmerized by that little vixen!” Avril pouted, a hint of jealousy on her face.

“This vine-woven armor, does it seem a bit shabby?” Ning Yu frowned.

“We can carefully design some patterns to make it a bit more awe-inspiring!” Avril grabbed Ning Yu’s hand, excitedly saying, “Our Sea Clan’s armor is all woven from seaweed, right?

It’s the same with vines!”

“Avril, you’re really smart!” Ning Yu lovingly caressed the mermaid’s face, “Actually, Richard has been praising you behind your back…”

“I don’t believe it…” Although Avril denied it, the joyful smile on her face suggested otherwise.

*********************************************************************

Under the shouts of the hedgehog and skunk people, the Larza beasts and the fat antelopes disrupted the inherent tranquility of the Red Earth Highland.

The color of the soil here was different from that in the Donau Wasteland; it was reddish-brown and gave off a metallic reflection, with no grass growing from it.

In the vast wilderness strewn with dried grass, a massive Red Earth Highland stood.

It was forty blades high and two hundred blades long.

Its barren soil only bore a few solitary foxtail grasses and was dotted with caves and paths of different sizes.

Embedded in the middle of the Red Earth Highland was a giant stone statue’s face, mostly concealed within the layers of red soil.

This was a relic left behind after the Ancient Gods and Demons War, and many such relics can be found across Donau Wasteland.

In front of the highland, large red earth towers surged from the ground like towering trees, creating a unique landmark.

This highland had no name before.

The Bimon Kingdom only visited during the transition between spring and summer every year, with the Orephin Clan coming to collect some red soil.

Red soil, along with bananas, were two indispensable items in the Elephant Clan’s food.

Ning Yu finally understood why the Temple chose to name this nameless place “Fei Leng Cui”.

Around the Red Earth Highland, a vast expanse of red land bore only low shrubs and berry bushes, displaying an extreme desolation.

Not far away, in the Donau Wasteland, wild grass densely grew around the red soil, delineating a semi-circular boundary.

Outside the circle was a lush grassland, while inside was barren red soil.

The blood-red setting sun tinged the Red Earth Highland with a vibrant color.

“How beautiful!” To Avril, the desolation here possessed a sublime charm that was ineffable.

“It is beautiful, but it’s also desolate.” Ning Yu looked at the noisy crowd behind her and couldn’t help but furrow her brow.

Before, Lord Richard had taken care of everything.

She only realized how hard it was for him now that she had to be in charge.

The furrowed brow had seemingly become Ning Yu’s distinct feature during this period.

“We can turn Fei Leng Cui into a lush place!

It could become a jewel in the wasteland!” Avril declared unabashedly, making Ning Yu’s eyebrows furrow even deeper.

“Where do we sleep?

We can’t keep sleeping in tents, the earth’s energy is too strong.” Gude strode over, nodding at the two mistresses.

His lips were marked by a burst blister.

“It’s already autumn.

If things continue like this, everyone will fall ill.

We can’t keep sleeping on the ground.” Ning Yu too, nodded in agreement.

“We need to build a castle, watchtower, and fences.” Avril began counting on her fingers, her face darkening with each item she listed.

She finally understood why Ning Yu was frequently furrowing her brows.

What could they use to build a castle and corner towers, seeing as they were out of money?

“Let’s wait for Richard’s return before discussing this.

For now, let’s just figure out where to sleep,” Ning Yu sighed.

She missed Richard dearly.

With him around, she felt a sense of respite, even if they couldn’t solve the problems.

It’s not like now, where her mind was filled with worries.

“Winter is approaching quickly.

We need to establish our camp before the first frost.

I’ll go chop wood right now!

There’s a coniferous pine forest near the snowy mountains.

The panda folks and the Mastiff People will all come out and grab as much as they can.

If we hustle, we can make it back in a day.” Gude took a swig from his wine flask.

“This goddamn wasteland has nothing but dried grass and shrubs, not a tree in sight!

It’s so damn frustrating!”

“What about our security if you all leave?” Ning Yu shook her head.

“It’ll only be one night.

I don’t think there’ll be any issue.” Gude paused before adding, “Without timber, we can’t build a castle.

This issue must be addressed first.

Don’t you want to give Lord Richard a surprise when he comes back?”

Ning Yu fell silent.

She did want to share the burden with Richard.

“We could sleep in those caves on the Red Earth Highland for the night.

Look, those caves up there are quite large; I think they could accommodate a few hundred people.

As for security, leave it to me!” Avril pointed to the clay caves on the Red Earth Highland and patted her chest.

“I’m a mermaid who can naturally communicate with the Water Elements.

I’m a top-tier Water Element Mage!”

“Great idea!

Avril, you are so clever!” Ning Yu’s eyes lit up, “I will order the Hedgehog People to gather grass right away.

The soft dried grass must be comfortable to sleep on, and the caves are far from the ground, so there won’t be any strong earth energy.”

“Put those skunk-like Kunke tribesmen in other caves.

They fart all the way and it’s stinky!” Avril whispered to Ning Yu.

“You’re so smart!” Ning Yu pinched Avril’s nose with a smile.
