Chapter 1602: Chapter 498: Two Domain Barriers [Part 2]
"Pity me, a man standing tall at seven feet, reduced to sacrificing my dignity for the future of the entire territory." Stormrage sighed dramatically once again, feigning sorrow, and wiped at the nonexistent tears on the corners of his eyes to disguise the truth.
"Richard, you’re wrong!" Avril said seriously, "Those twenty-seven mermaids of the Seia Empire who awakened their domain barriers are all combat-type domain barriers! For example, Similian’s Beast Wave or my father’s Metal Cage."
"What do you mean?" Stormrage was stunned. Little Ai’s sudden serious tone caught him off guard with its stark contrast.
"In Seia’s traditions, if a domain barrier isn’t categorized as combat-related, it doesn’t count officially!" Avril explained earnestly. "For instance, my cousin Melore’s domain barrier is ’Water Ripple Dress,’ which condenses beautiful garments from pure blue seawater to clothe her. Domain barriers like this, which have no combat utility, aren’t recorded in the official roster or added to the family registry!" Avril fidgeted uneasily and hesitated before saying to Stormrage, "It’s just... if Seia really plans to invade the Aegean Continent... I’m worried that these domain barriers that are useless in the sea might turn out to be useful on land!"
Stormrage opened his mouth slightly, dazed for a moment, before quickly grasping Little Ai’s implication—environmental counteraction theory.
The Beast Wave Domain Barrier of Prince Similian could condense water waves into massive whales to devour warships. It’s undoubtedly unrivaled in the sea. But once on land, where rivers and lakes aren’t as easily encountered along a march, this "necktie," as impressive as it appears, would instantly become a burden. If you were to cruelly throw Similian into the Taklamago Desert to fight, then this barrier might as well be as useless as a deaf man’s ear—just for show.
Little Ai’s cousin Melore’s "Water Ripple Dress Domain Barrier" is effectively a shapeshifting, close-fitting water barrier. In the ocean, it’s nothing more than decorative, but—on land—if this barrier’s powers were attached to someone from the Land Races, forming a water garment, wouldn’t it potentially drown them to death?
"Lots of domain barriers that are considered non-combat types in the sea become extremely useful on land! Seia figured that out as early as the last Sea vs. Land war! For instance, the ’Stormrage Domain Barrier’: at sea, storms and gales are commonplace, but on land? A sudden downpour could effectively block enemies or extinguish fires, couldn’t it? Then there’s the ’Hertegrong Domain Barrier,’ which relies on air combustion to produce a ’Flame Dance of Encirclement.’ At sea, the flames would be extinguished with a ’psst, psst’ as soon as they appear, utterly useless. Barriers involving fire like this are considered non-combat types in Seia, but how about on land?" Avril, seldom this forthcoming about her homeland, took the chance to elaborate thoroughly. "Not only do these non-combat domain barriers gain new value on land, but the Mermaid Princes guarding the four border seas are the true masters of domain barriers. On your last trip to the royal city to save me, you didn’t encounter these border commanders. If you had, neither one of us would still be alive today."
"Is that so?" Stormrage suddenly found the conversation growing somber. Resignedly, he withdrew his hand from Little Ai’s collar.
"The Grand Marshals of Seia who guard the four cardinal seas have passed down their titles as Coral-Crested Princes through generations since ancient times. The Mermaids of Seia have five main clans in total. The ones you’ve encountered so far only represent the domain powers of the royal city mermaids," Avril said, making Stormrage shiver involuntarily. "Currently, the four Mermaid Princes have domain barriers like the ’Vacuum Shield Domain Barrier,’ ’Metal Embattlement Domain Barrier,’ ’Salt Accumulation Attack Domain Barrier,’ and ’Scorching Heat Domain Barrier!’"
Little Ai succinctly broke down the effects of these domain barriers for Richard.
"Holy crap!" Stormrage felt a chill run down his spine as he listened. Throughout history, commanders guarding their nation’s borders have always possessed exceptional combat prowess. Unsurprisingly, these four iron-clad mermaid princes were the same!
The power of the ’Metal Embattlement Domain Barrier’ could not only bestow a metallicized body but also summon the Sea Emperor’s Trident and a fully metallic seahorse mount. If this domain barrier were granted to a Banilou Warrior, in pure physical combat, even the Seven-Colored Dragon would likely roll its eyes in defeat!
As for the ’Scorching Heat Domain Barrier’ and the ’Vacuum Shield Domain Barrier,’ even without Little Ai’s explanation, Stormrage knew they were deadly. The only somewhat weaker one was the ’Salt Accumulation Attack Domain Barrier.’ After all, once separated from seawater, there wouldn’t be enough salt in the air to enable large-scale attacks unless they were in the Florando Saline Forest or the Subterranean Saline Marsh!
"Good thing! If we have the Harmonious Pearl, at least we won’t have to worry about the ’Vacuum Shield Domain Barrier’ or the ’Scorching Heat Domain Barrier!’" Stormrage thought back to Beckenbauer’s ’Metal Cage Domain Barrier’ and his brother-in-law Similian’s ’Beast Wave Domain Barrier’ and couldn’t help but admire the power of the Sea Clan rulers. Reflecting on his previous journey to the deep sea, he realized he’d indeed been incredibly fortunate. Without the Starry Sky Gate, he’d have had to recklessly charge through like a headless chicken. Even now, he wasn’t sure he could have survived unscathed.
