Chapter 1516: Chapter 452: Mutated Arcane Beast (Part 1)_2

Looking at the male Lich’s chest adorned with a Pegasus emblem, and the female Lich’s chest pinned with a castle emblem, Old Liu mentally did some quick calculations based on the guild ranks Soreskia had reported himself. Immediately, he inwardly muttered, "Doug’s bullshit."

It turned out that this baby-faced male Lich was merely equivalent to a Magic Apprentice on the Aegean Continent. As for the female Lich, Sosoming, she was ranked one level higher than her brother, akin to an Apprentice Mage on Aegean.

However, there was a fundamental difference between male and female Liches within the Demon Clan. Female Liches were only allowed to train in negative-enhancing arcane spells, focusing on debuffing abilities rather than offensive power, while the truly destructive arcane arts were reserved solely for male Liches to learn.

Old Liu sneered disdainfully. When it came to negative-enhancing spells, who could boast more expertise than a High Priest armed with the "Evil Battle Song"?

It seemed that gender bias wasn’t exclusively a trademark of Andulan patriarchs.

The term "strong," when used to describe a Dungeon Demon, generally signified a competent archer. Liu Zhenshake knew his instincts hadn’t failed him. Compared to these rookies, the Dungeon Archer, Marfaletna, was indeed a battle-ready warrior. However, as for the clumsy acolyte Shabi... well, his name’s phonetic equivalent was a fitting description of his competence level.

Snorting and idly making small talk, Old Liu took the opportunity to closely examine the four young Demon Clan rookies.

The two Liches both had emerald-green eyes, with ornate tattoos resembling an eye inked on their foreheads—a distinct marker of their race.

The acolyte, wrapped in a thick cloak, had his face shrouded in a dark, misty haze, exposing only a pair of phosphorescent eyes glimmering like will-o’-wisps. It was said this particular Demon race was born faceless, validating what the legends from Aegean’s texts described to a tee.

As for the Dungeon Demon, it had the unmistakable appearance of a giant spider. Its carapace was thick and sturdy; its scythes razor-sharp. For Old Liu, this was the first time he encountered an ordinary wisening race that appeared in a beast-like form instead of a humanoid one, prompting him to steal a few extra glances out of curiosity.

Dealing with these four naïve, clueless rookies proved to be child’s play for the seasoned and shrewd Old Liu. By setting a few linguistic traps here and there, he easily extracted a wealth of useful information from these greenhorns.

It turned out these four adventurers, alongside the now-deceased silver-eyed swordsman Bohani and his two servants, had formed a small adventure team named "Heart of the Brave." A month ago, they ventured into the Lost Mountains hoping to witness the natural opening of the "Space-Time Rift" and seize the opportunity to leap into the Aegean Continent for adventures.

Their straightforwardness drew a bittersweet smile from Old Liu. Who would’ve thought these bumbling idiots, lacking the power, still had such audacious courage?

According to their account, it seemed the governmental institutions of the Demon World severely prohibited private armed groups from crossing dimensions. So, they had come secretly. Apparently, every year, countless hot-blooded warriors roamed the areas with Space-Time Rifts, waiting like hunters for the rifts to naturally stabilize, allowing them to venture into the Aegean Continent to prove their bravery!

In their narrative, the Aegean Continent was a so-called "Evil Continent," overrun by countless wicked creatures that had driven the Demon Clan out of their homes a millennium ago and banished them to the Demon World.

It was a textbook case of propaganda, demonizing the Aegean Continent. Old Liu finally understood why every year, incompetent Demons clamored to serve as punching bags for human Holy Knights—it was all thanks to these hot-blooded, reckless fanatics blinded by fervor.

The "Heart of the Brave" adventure team spent nearly half a month wandering the Lost Mountains, consuming all their rations, yet failing to witness the Space-Time Rift’s natural opening. Out of options, they decided to return to town. However, while camping near a water source, they provoked a mutated Morea Hydra and narrowly escaped total annihilation.

Old Liu had no idea what a mutated Morea leech-serpent was. All he knew was that after draining the blood essence from its body and splitting its tentacle-shaped, squid-like head open several times, he still couldn’t find the Magic Crystal!

This left him somewhat surprised. Over the past few days, the Magical Beasts he had defeated all had crystal nuclei in their heads, so why didn’t this one?

Moments ago, he’d personally witnessed this Magical Beast casting frost spells!

Although the frost was red, it was undoubtedly, unquestionably magic!

Magic Crystals served as a Magical Beast’s energy reservoir; they relied on these crystals to cast spells. Could it be that some Magical Beasts in the Demon World lacked crystal nuclei yet could still perform magic?

"What exactly is a mutated Morea Hydra? During our mental exchange, I didn’t grasp the term clearly. Soreskia, could you explain it in more detail for me?" Herein lay the advantage of mental communication—whenever Old Liu didn’t understand something, he could feign ignorance and use the opportunity to fill in the blanks.

"Elder... you mean you’ve never encountered mutated Arcane Beasts while in the Lost Mountains?" The baby-faced Soreskia rolled his eyes dramatically, turned to his companions, scratched his head for a while, and stammered, "Mutation is... is... when certain Arcane Beasts undergo a series of special changes due to unique circumstances. And then... often, a weak Arcane Beast suddenly becomes unbelievably powerful! That’s what mutation is!"

Old Liu found this intriguing. The Arcane Beasts they referred to were undoubtedly Magical Beasts—that much was crystal-clear. He’d heard of Divine Beasts from the Silk Continent, Phantom Beasts from the Taklamago Desert, and even fiercer sea creatures that the mighty Sea Clan struggled against, such as Gerein and Xu Dela. Now the Demon World had introduced mutated Arcane Beasts to the mix. Truly, the world was full of endless wonders.

"Ah, got it. So you’re saying mutated Arcane Beasts are genetically mutated creatures!" Old Liu shamelessly fed these gullible adventurers some nonsense: "Sorry, I’ve never encountered one myself. Can you tell me what causes these sudden genetic mutations in Arcane Beasts?"

"Exactly!" The four adventurers were completely baffled by the profound phrase "genetic mutations."

"Why... do genetically... mutated Arcane Beasts... come to exist..." Baby-faced Soreskia awkwardly parroted the newly learned term as if it were tongue-twisters. "...Currently, it’s unclear how they originate. But one thing is for sure—these genetically mutated Arcane Beasts love eating our Shell Coins. When faced with this kind of mutated beast, throwing Shell Coins might buy you some time to escape! I suspect there’s some mysterious energy in the coins that helps them mutate."

"Brother! Don’t spout nonsense if you don’t know! Currently, certain Lich Masters are conducting dedicated research in this area. We’re... we’re too low-ranking to make wild guesses," the red-faced Sosoming interjected, attempting to rein in her brother.

Haha... So that explains why you guys were frantically tossing shells into the water earlier! So these Shell Coins were actually your currency, and you were using money to buy your lives. As they say, money can even make the undead turn millstones. It seemed this truth was universal, no matter where one went. Old Liu chuckled inwardly.

As his conversation with the four Demon adventurers continued, Old Liu found himself increasingly surprised.

It seemed the Demon World wasn’t a single landmass but rather divided into three continents!

Old Liu was currently on a continent called the "Coast of Contribution," in the Lost Mountains, specifically within the Forest of No Return.

The acolyte Shabi happened to be a native of this continent, while the Lich siblings and the Dungeon Archer, Strong Marfaletna, hailed from the Hollywood Continent. Meanwhile, the deceased silver-eyed swordsman and his attendants came from another continent—the Bollywood Continent. All of them were fledgling adventurers, just starting their journeys, with dreams higher than the skies and lives as fragile as paper.
