Chapter 1225: Chapter 333: Unintentionally Planting Willows, Willows Grow into Shade_3
Liu Zhenhan’s heart skipped a beat.
These Air Knights were clearly flying thanks to the metal armor and metal wings on their bodies! The single-person flyers, which neither goblins nor gnomes had invented, had the Mulanese figured them out already?
Could that be possible? If so, why hadn’t he seen these armored air warriors on the battlefield? Liu Zhenhan wondered wildly.
Liu Zhenhan wanted to ask Rommel, but Rommel was currently happily conversing with a few white-bearded Imams greeting him. Reluctantly, Liu Zhenhan put the thought aside and focused on playing his role as both a prisoner and a tourist.
Kalimantan was truly magnificent!
The farther into the city Liu Zhenhan and Guoguo walked, the wider their mouths gaped.
Along the main thoroughfare, large plants spread open like umbrellas; gold shops, fur shops, and taverns were everywhere. The air was thick with the scent of rich spices, decadent and excessive. The buildings here were generally taller, mostly with domes or pointed tops. The Caliph’s Inner City palace and the Zoroastrian Temple were the most magnificent, prominently eye-catching. Being shorter than the massive pyramids and statues outside the city walls, every time the old rogue looked up, it was as if the statue of Goddess Moni was staring back at him.
The walk lasted nearly an hour, the whole Flying Camel Army moved up the main thoroughfare northward, then turned west, and arrived at an encampment enclosed by walls. After the troops neatly entered the drill field, Liu Zhenhan noticed Rommel was missing. Asking nearby Mulanese soldiers, none dared to speak with him, which frustrated Liu Zhenhan immensely.
After a lengthy wait, the troops dispersed, and Liu Zhenhan finally saw Rommel approach.
"When exactly do you plan to keep me locked up?" Liu Zhenhan kicked and broke a wooden bar.
"You’re in luck! Tomorrow is the Harvest Festival, and Caliph Harifa Abdullah plans to approach you in three days," Rommel instructed someone to unlock the large padlock on the wooden gate while speaking to Liu Zhenhan.
"Damn, he isn’t going to decapitate me, is he?" Liu Zhenhan shrank his neck as he jumped out from the wooden cage.
"Don’t worry! No dignitary is easily beheaded after being captured," Rommel said with a faint smile. "I will still have to apologize to you. No matter what, I must first lock you in a prison until tonight. Then, you’ll change clothes, and I’ll take you around Kalimantan City to familiarize you with the environment. The Harvest Festival signifies a time of abundance in the Mulanese language. Starting tonight and continuing for the next seven days, Kalimantan City will see a large influx of traders from other regions bringing exotic goods for sale."
Liu Zhenhan smiled, knowing very well Rommel’s intention to familiarize him with the surroundings was probably just a convenient cover for other plans.
"By the way, those flying Mulanese Air Knights in the sky earlier, who were they? What were they using to fly?" Liu Zhenhan suddenly remembered this question and blurted it out.
"Oh, those were two hundred Phantom Beast Knights from the Mulan Imperial Guards. This time during your battle, Caliph Harifa Abdullah kept them to guard the palace, so you haven’t seen them before. Phantom Beast Knights are unique to one of the four great Imperial Guard legions, the Air Knights, which local legions do not have. It’s said that these two hundred Phantom Beast Knights are at least a match for the Pterosaur Knights," Rommel sneered. "Although my Flying Camel Army doesn’t have Phantom Beast Knights, we still possess air power."
"Why can they fly with their armor? Is this Magical Equipment developed by the Mulan Empire?" Liu Zhenhan continued, realizing Rommel was trying to dodge the topic, unlike his usual straightforward demeanor.
"Where would there be magic armor strong enough for that?" Rommel laughed heartily. "I’ll just tell you, the Phantom Beast Knights rely on Magical Beast mounts to fly. As for the rest, you can guess. If you get even a little bit right, I will tell you the truth."
"You’re really generous! Whenever I ask you something, you almost never refuse," Liu Zhenhan said sarcastically. "This time you’re just as open."
"Don’t mock me now. While Phantom Beast Knights might not be a significant military secret in my eyes, I can’t just blab about it! If you can guess even a little bit of the clue, I wouldn’t mind explaining it in detail," Rommel chuckled. "The reason I tell you some seemingly secret information is that I feel there’s no need to keep it secret. I would never reveal true major secrets."
"So, you confidently claim you can wipe out the Bimon Kingdom because of that major secret?" Liu Zhenhan eyed Rommel critically. "I feel you’re not one to boast idly. Someone like you never chatters about things they’re unsure of. What exactly is the great secret that gives you such unshakable confidence to conquer the Bimon Kingdom?"
"What do you think?" Rommel found this guy incredibly annoying.
"Is it because the Demon Clan is helping you?" Liu Zhenhan asked haphazardly, not really considering his question.
Rommel’s expression changed momentarily, but recovered quickly as he realized the Bimon Shaman was just babbling.
"Not just them! The Sea Clan is also helping me fight the Bimon Kingdom!" Rommel chuckled dismissively.
An ordinary person wouldn’t notice anything off about his expression, but Rommel was too sharp.
"Ha ha! Your skin is thicker than your backside," Liu Zhenhan burst into laughter.
At the same time, a cold sweat broke on Liu Zhenhan’s back.
