Chapter 1205: Chapter 326: Every Family Has Its Problems
The siege battle raged from dusk until the sky was studded with stars.
Every member of the Royal Imperial Guard of the Mulan Empire was seeing red.
The first wave of attacking Mulan Mojie, wielding gold and silver scimitars, were the finest mid-level officers in the Imperial Guard, all with illustrious battle honors. Their scimitars had taken countless Desert Mojie lives; their bravery served as a model to many warriors. Yet today, not a single one returned alive!
The loss of these officers hung like a noose around the neck of Sudan’s Imperial Guard Commander, Golemuhamedi. Had it not been for his bodyguards holding him back, he surely would have charged bare-armed onto the walls of Hu Ye Ancient City.
For the fourth time!
The fourth uninterrupted assault on Hu Ye Ancient City now!
The Mulan warriors outside the city had no idea of the battle conditions within, only knowing that the previous three assaults had been utterly ineffective, with sixteen thousand of their fighters fed into this bottomless pit!
Faced with the scimitars of Lei school officers, not a single guard of the Sudan dared or could retreat, with nearly three hundred deserters already executed! Apart from the injured, these officers refused to allow any able-bodied warriors to fall back, for such were the commander’s orders!
The honor of the Imperial Mojie, under the watchful eyes of countless onlookers, left the Imperial fighters with no choice but to grit their teeth and fight!
During the four waves of attack, the humanoid statues blocking the city gate of Hu Ye Ancient City were cracked open, a large fissure formed. It was through this gate that countless brave Mulan soldiers were slaughtered in a counter-attack by the Bimon warriors, with broken limbs piling up almost a meter high, painting the entire portal a purplish-brown. There one could find dried bloodstains alongside warm, fresh blood, a nauseating sight, and just like before, there was that dwarf, with one hit of his club he created swathes of destruction. The Mulan warriors truly loathed how small that gate was!
Pieces of corpses and splatterings of fresh blood periodically flew from within Hu Ye Ancient City. In the hazy air, even the mist rising from the sand turned a grim crimson, and as it settled on the armor of the Mulan soldiers, a swipe of the hand revealed a pale red trail.
Under the flickering flames of countless devilish bonfires, the morale of the Mulan Royal Imperial Guard had plummeted to an unimaginable low, like touch-me-nots withered by early frost!
Only the last batch of four thousand Imperial fighters remained!
Unable to observe the progress of the battle for an extended period, the sharpness of the Mulan soldiers was whittled away bit by bit. At first, the injured continuously retreated from Hu Ye Ancient City back to the Mulan camp, but as time went on, wave after wave of valiant Mulan Mojie were sent over the walls, never to return.
The shouts and clashing of weapons inside the ancient city continued to be earth-shattering. The frenzied cries of "Kampas" hammered against eardrums like thundering drums, accompanied by the constant sounds of bones shattering and agonizing screams.
The vulture knights hovering in the air, once landed, found themselves unable to systematically describe or summarize the brutality of the battle. They neurotically repeated stories of the Bimon Mojie’s valor and supernatural strength until admonished by Lei school officers, coming to the grim realization that such talk could incite panic.
The brave Mulan Imperial Heavy Cavalry, tasked with breaching the fortress today, proved once more the meaning of "invincible," except this time, they were the ones being shattered, and the "unbreakable" was someone else.
Sudan’s Imperial Guard Commander, Golemuhamedi, watched with trembling hands as the injured were rescued, their numbers minuscule compared to those who had charged into the ancient city, revealing the harrowing extent of the battle!
The injuries of these valiant Mulan Mojie were terrifying: an elevated red welt across the chest, bursting open into a muffled, split wound at the back.
Those familiar with the military all knew what this meant: the people of Wo Tower were adept with short clubs and enjoyed knocking enemies’ skulls aside. The Mulan soldiers had crossed paths with them before and knew their potency; sometimes even armor that swords and spears could not penetrate would succumb to a club blow. Such primitive weapons wielded by powerfully built warriors could result in horrific damage.
Today’s foes were far beyond any Wo Tower club-wielding soldiers, using logs capable of demolishing city gates. In Mulan, these were known as Cannon Hammers, unimaginable in the damage they could do when swung against human flesh.
Some of the injured had been rescued after being crushed below the waist by heavy objects; others had a cut in the chest, but a wound on their back that only a blow from a Wolf Fang Club could inflict. The severity of each person’s injuries was profound, leaving the Mulan Zoroastrian healers entirely at a loss!
These Mulan Mojie were finished!
Unless their bodies were stitched together with needle and thread, there was no way their wounds could ever mend. Heaven only knows how they were still alive! Maybe the shattered spines dulled their pain sensation, sparing them the fate of dying in agony.
Their lingering breaths seemingly served only one purpose: to let their commander and comrades see the enemy’s brutality up close.
"Ugh... Ugh..."
Sudan’s Imperial Guard Commander, Golemuhamedi, was fixated, almost dazed, staring at one gravely injured soldier. This burly camel warrior was being forcefully held down by four Imperial fighters. The pain twisted him like a shrimp about to boil, arching his back into a hump, jumping repeatedly. His lower jaw was entirely shattered, with everything below the nose looking like a broken chamber pot, entirely gone, making his voice sound like a weird squawking noise from vibrating vocal cords. The most terrifying part was his eyes, murky with fast-spinning blood.
