Chapter 1173: Chapter 316: Escape from Death_3
"Immediately tally the casualty data!" Liu Zhenhan instructed Prince Kahn.
His Highness the Prince slowly rose from the ground, saluting the Shaman of Divine Songs solemnly with a military salute.
Determination and courage were once again restored to the prince’s visage. After a proud lift of his head, the mighty Rhine stepped to his soldiers, the shouts and officer reports melding into one.
Once everyone had retreated to the safety zone within the ancient city, the Chimaera Cavalry, who had captured the Ant Queen, leisurely spiraled down onto the sandy ground. As the Ant Queen, with her plump body, tried to flee back to the ants, about a dozen Antelope Men, swinging their lassos, toppled the six-meter-long beast with a roll, dragging it across the sand, leaving behind a glistening wet trail, as they forcibly pulled the hissing and screeching Ant Queen back into the ancient city.
At least a hundred horses the size of Giant ants, clumsily flapping their membranous wings, recklessly charged into the secure perimeter in front of the ancient city. They startled Liu Zhenhan, who had been posing like a cleric.
Before the warriors could rush over to deal with these uninvited guests, the Giant ants within five hundred yards of the city met their doom. It was as if they had suddenly been struck in the midsection by an invisible giant club, flipping through the air in large, sprawling rolls. They landed with a "thud" on the ground, their rear ends emitting a "pop" as they cracked open, and the flesh spattered, expelling fist-sized black objects that shot straight towards the Magnetic Walls, creating a series of massive thuds.
The restless ant horde stopped moving outside a five-hundred-yard radius from the ancient city, none daring to enter this forbidden zone again. Red ant hills and Giant ants loomed watchfully beyond the perimeter line, crawling back and forth, their large compound eyes filled with agitation.
Liu Zhenhan walked up to the city wall and touched one of the fist-sized black things that had sprayed out from the body of a Giant ant.
"Undoubtedly, this is a piece of steel," the Difeng Giant Iverson said, standing beside his boss with a corner of his mouth tugged into a faint smile. "Magnets can only attract metals that contain ferromagnetic substances like iron, cobalt, and nickel."
"Why would there be steel inside an ant’s body?" Liu Zhenhan asked, slightly puzzled. Although he didn’t quite understand it, he believed that the Difeng Giants, who were highly skilled in metal and forging, would certainly have an answer.
"What is our Feilengcui’s Gold-Pointing Mulberry, anyway? It’s just a plant!" Iverson did not disappoint his boss and easily pointed out the crux. "The Gold-Pointing Mulberry extracts metallic elements from the red soil through its roots. Once the fruit grows, it becomes the best Magic Steel—Vajra! Undoubtedly, these ants must also feed on metal. Judging from this piece of steel, they seem to have eaten through a vein of steel underground!"
"This piece of steel is fantastic! It’s on par with Vajra, and I can feel that it has excellent compatibility with Magic Elements!" The two Kings of the Hill, standing to the left and right of their boss, Buckley couldn’t help but touch the ant steel and shook his head in high praise.
"No wonder these ants dare not come close to the ancient city ruins! They’re afraid of the steel inside them being sucked out!" Helen whispered as she softly clasped Liu Zhenhan’s arm, pressing her pretty face, marked with a trail of blood, tightly against Liu Zhenhan’s mountain-like shoulder.
Liu Zhenhan again marveled at his luck. Although his Ancient Power Fire Gun was made of Vajra, the axe case was made of willow iron, and beneath the plating, his Mithril arm and Mithril Flute were all steel and were inevitably stuck to the Magnetic City, thankfully the Feilengcui Warriors had taken off their wrought-iron Crown Thorns Armor in advance. Most warriors were only equipped with rattan armor—if even the Beamon warriors had successfully retreated to the ancient city, wouldn’t the Mulan warriors who emerged from the ground wielding bronze swords have killed the robust warriors as easily as slaughtering chickens in frustration?
"By the way! Who told you to charge out just now?" Liu Zhenhan looked at Helen with feigned anger. "It’s one thing for the Difeng Giants to go out and respond since they have innate Flame Magic! But why couldn’t even the Mammoth Cavalry and Nedved restrain themselves?"
"It’s like this, boss! Our mounts were coated with a layer of amber-sandstone Battle Armor. I figured that the ants were unlikely to have the appetite to also consume the sandstone, so I daringly charged out to approach our people! My assumption was correct, indeed the ants had no interest in the Giant Beasts clad in sandstone Battle Armor," Nedved explained with a wry smile. "I was just wondering why the ants were being flung away wherever the Three-legged Gold Toad went. Turns out, these ants contain clumps of iron, which were repelled by the metal-rejecting armor."
"Actually, I have no right to blame you. I’ve made quite a few low-level mistakes today myself, and I forgot all sorts of things that should have been used in that critical moment," Liu Zhenhan sighed deeply. "Actually, when I should have charged into the infantry formation, I should have taken out the Vajra Magic Circle and let Gerein infuse it with Wind System Mana. That way, maybe more of our warriors could have made it out."
"Under those circumstances, Your Majesty, you’ve already done very well. Even now, I’m still unable to grasp the situation," the small-faced, blushing Elf prince said from the side. "I’m sorry, Your Majesty. The battle between you and the Mulan Dragon Knight was so shocking that I’m still somewhat at a loss."
