Chapter 1088: Chapter 283: The Beginning of Turbulence

Two days later, the main forces of the Expeditionary Army finally arrived at Yale Oasis.

Over twenty thousand people and a massive amount of military supplies flooded into the small oasis, which only covered two hectares, packing it full to bursting.

Confronted with the formidable God of War’s Summer Palace Guard stationed in the middle of Yale Oasis, everyone in the Expeditionary Army, from Prince Lionheart Kahn himself to Lucio, the high priest in charge of the private army "the Taige Legion," was taken aback by their spectacular formation. No one expected that the Shaman of Divine Songs, as a minor overlord, had already amassed such an immense military strength.

Helen’s shock was indeed indescribable. She did not want to attract this kind of attention, but in order to avenge Helen, this follower-formed Summer Palace Guard would have to be revealed sooner or later. Even if they were all sent back to Turun, every soldier in the Turun Combined Forces had seen them with their own eyes. Word would spread from one to ten, ten to a hundred; it was a secret that could be kept from no one, so it was better to reveal it openly.

The first battle was a resounding victory, with the vanguard troops annihilating six thousand of the enemy despite being at a numerical disadvantage. This was certainly a proud and impressive feat, yet this victory caused significant discord within the Expeditionary Army.

The conflict arose from the weapons and supplies captured by the vanguard when they took the oasis. The excellent quality of the Mulanese scimitars made the entire Bimon Army drool with desire. The thousands of camels could serve as the best mode of transportation in the desert, and the provisions and forage were even more covetable. Simply put, it was all money.

The most important mission for the Expeditionary Sacrificial Group this time was to help the temple gather enough resources and equipment to arm the future Sacred Knights. As the chief shaman of the Expeditionary Sacrificial Group, following the initial triumph, Helen not only failed to assist the temple but openly allowed all the soldiers from the Turun Combined Forces to upgrade their weapons, which frustrated the three gold-robed head priests to no end.

Jumping in anger was futile if Helen had conformed to their wishes, she wouldn’t be Helen.

The three gold-robed head priests had originally hoped that the chief shaman would step forward to negotiate with the legion commander for a redistribution of the spoils of war, but Helen had no intention of doing so. After all, she had already obtained what she wanted, the "Tower of Light’s Wish," and considered the rest none of her concern.

Having no other choice, the three gold-robed head priests had to go themselves and bargain with Prince Kahn, the legion commander. After all, it was the God of War’s Summer Palace Guard that had secured the victory in battle, a fact even the Piegel warriors of the two Turun Combined Forces acknowledged. Thus, the temple must have a share in the spoils, including the large number of skilled slave craftsmen among the captives, among whom the vineyard winemakers represented a vast fortune.

Prince Lionheart Kahn was not someone to be easily trifled with either. The Mulan scimitars could easily cleave through Beamon armors; these precious swords were not to be handed back once obtained. The value of skilled craftsmen was something he, as a noble, understood all too well. In summary, the matter was non-negotiable.

The desert natives in the surrounding areas had already been cleared, so the higher-ups were free from distractions and could argue even more fiercely.

Faced with Prince Lionheart Kahn’s resolute stance, the three gold-robed head priests were so anxious they even threatened to withdarw both the Expeditionary Sacrificial Group and the Taige Legion back to Sabak to pressure Prince Kahn.

Had war not been imminent, this farce might have indeed become a reality.

On the second day of recuperation at Yale Oasis, Scout Cavalry suddenly rushed in with an urgent report: Enemy forces had started appearing a hundred and fifty miles away!

The sharp dispute between the temple and the military headquarters vanished before the impending battle, for both the Altar Sacrificial Priests and the Beamon soldiers possessed the basic sense of duty.

Prince Kahn, the legion commander, reviewed the enemy intelligence gathered by his advisors and, along with his staff, pored over the maps. They marked the enemy’s approximate movement direction and location. To confirm further, a large number of aerial scouts and Wolf Scouts were dispatched to meticulously scout the enemy’s dynamics and scale.

Of the four waves of scouts, totaling twenty Griffin riders, four Biao warriors, and a hundred Wolf Riders, only two Biao warriors returned, and they were battered and bruised. This made Prince Kahn suddenly realize the seriousness of the situation, and the atmosphere within the entire Expeditionary Army shifted from relaxed to tense, as they prepared for the impending battle.

"Gentlemen! The ferocity of the enemy far exceeds our imagination," declared Prince Kahn at the pre-battle meeting he convened, with his first words casting a grave tone over the military and priestly ranks.

The military advisors distributed stacks of freshly organized enemy intelligence to the generals and high priests, who were seeing this information for the first time, including Prince Kahn, the legion commander.

In the meeting room, only the rustling of papers being turned could be heard, with Helen remaining composed.

After reviewing the enemy reports, all the officers and high-ranking priests furrowed their brows, their expressions grim.

Interrogations of the captives revealed that the western frontier province "Kalimantan City" of the Mulan Empire had a regular army of forty thousand. After mobilization of the reserves, this number could easily double without issue.
