Chapter 217: MOON GODDESS PRESENCE
{"I am the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone- The Moon Goddess"}
Freyr’s breath ghosted warmly against my shoulder, his body loose and peaceful in sleep. I should have been just as at ease, the night was calm, our defences strong, but something shifted in the air. A low, vibrating hum filled the room, beneath hearing. My instincts flared, and I opened my eyes. The chamber was bathed in silver, though the curtains remained drawn. A presence coalesced in the far corner, a ripple of silk and light pulling itself together until she stood there, radiant, and solemn: the Moon Goddess herself.
My heart kicked hard against my ribs, and I rose slowly, careful not to wake Freyr, and bowed my head.
"Goddess."
Her eyes ancient, shimmering, endless locked not on me, but on him. On Freyr. A wonder lit her face, softening her regal severity. "So, it is true," she whispered, her voice like the turning of tides. "The Mira home spoke, and I answered."
Confusion knitted my brow. "Mira, home?" I echoed; my voice hoarse.
She approached, silent as mist. "The sacred heart of this land. The old soul of all that endures," she explained. "It called to me, summoned me to witness the great Freyr Kayne blood of the Paradise Coven."
Her gaze burned brighter as she looked upon him, as if she beheld a miracle. I instinctively shifted closer to Freyr, as though I could shield him from even her awe.
"He is..." Her words caught, rare emotion thickening them. "He is destiny wrapped in mortal skin."
My throat tightened. "What does this mean for him?" I asked.
The Goddess smiled then, not kindly, but knowingly, a mother watching a storm she could not stop.
"It means the world will bend around him... and you, Alpha Tor, are his destined mate, and just as I had predicted, the gods were kind and the realm bore two great sons.
A cool breeze stirred the room, lifting the ends of her gown like tendrils of cloud. She extended her hand toward Freyr but stopped short of touching him, as though reverence forbade it. "Treasure him," she said. "For forces beyond reckoning now turn their gaze upon him."
Her presence weighed heavily, like the moment before a storm breaks.
"You already know what happened at Blood Stone Mountain," I said, my voice low and rough from disuse. "It forced us to seal our mind link... and the Mira magic inside us."
Her luminous eyes sharpened, focusing entirely on me, and me still, I pressed on. "The one behind it, the one who desecrated that place, is Ash Marcel. An ancient vampire. He’s after our power... and the Kayne Stone that lives in Freyr’s blood."
The Moon Goddess inclined her head, a gesture of acknowledgment and she drifted closer, light pooling at her feet like spilled milk. When she spoke, her voice was a riverbed whisper: "I know. And now you must know the deeper truth, Alpha Tor."
I braced myself and She lifted her hand and traced a glowing rune in the air, a symbol older than speech itself. "The Mira magic you sealed inside yourselves... it was not the only fragment left alive," she said. "Ash Marcel stole a shard but he could not wield it. He could only trap it in stone."
A cold shudder rippled down my spine, and I cursed inwardly. "And worse," she continued, her voice darkening, "he birthed a creature beside him. A mirror of his hunger. A being fashioned from stolen Mira blood and nightmare."
The air grew colder. Freyr whimpered softly in his sleep, sensing the shift even from within his dreams.
I clenched my fists, feeling the phantom ache of the bond we had sealed away. "The black cloaked creature," I said, the words tasting like ash on my tongue. "Its name?"
The Moon Goddess’s face turned grave, almost sorrowful. "Shadow Freak," she whispered."Forged in Ash Marcel’s image. Twisted. Perfected for destruction. It is bound to him by blood and stone... as you are bound to each other by light and love."
I exhaled sharply, fighting the instinct to snarl. Shadow Freak. Born of stolen magic. A weapon, a monster made to hunt us.
I dropped to one knee without thinking, the ancient instinct of my blood stirring as I bowed my head before her fading light. Desperation cracked through my chest, raw and sharp.
"I beseech you, Moon Goddess," I said, voice low and fierce. "Tell me, how can I defeat them? How can I save this realm?"
The silence that answered was not empty, it was full, heavy with unseen forces listening.
I raised my eyes to hers, my throat tightening.
"Freyr..." My voice broke before I could stop it. "He took a hit yesterday. It has weakened him. I can feel it. The bond... It’s trembling."
Her gaze, silver and endless, softened just a little. Enough to show me she understood.
She nodded once, solemn as the stars above.
The moonlight in the room seemed to pulse, almost breathing.
"You must return to Blood Stone Mountain," she said, her voice resonating through marrow and soul. "Go back when the moon is full."
I swallowed hard, the weight of her words pressing into me.
"Under the full moon," she continued, "you will draw its power into yourself. The old covenant the forgotten birthright of the Mira bloodline will awaken."
She stepped closer, her feet gliding inches above the floor, her hand lifting to point not at me, but at Freyr, who still slept fitfully behind me.
"Gale will rise within you," she said. "The monster they fear. The storm given flesh."
A shudder ran through me, and I felt Gale roar in our mind link.
"You must find the Shadow Freak," the Moon Goddess said, her voice a command now, iron wrapped in velvet. "Kill it. Sever its blood from Ash Marcel." The silver light around her sharpened like a blade. "When you destroy the creature, Ash Marcel’s power will dwindle. His hold will weaken. Only then will you have the chance to strike true to win."
I bowed my head again, pressing my fist to my chest where our sealed bond still pulsed, aching.
"I swear it," I said hoarsely. "I’ll do whatever it takes."
The Moon Goddess’s form shimmered, breaking apart into strands of light. But before she vanished completely, her voice, soft and almost tender, curled around me like a blessing:
"Be brave, Alpha Tor. For love such as yours is the fiercest weapon of all."
And then she was gone. The cold rushed in where she had been, and I was left alone in the half-dark, with the weight of destiny coiled tight inside my chest. I turned, lying back down beside Freyr, gathering his fragile, sleeping form into my arms. He mumbled something incoherent, nuzzling into me, his forehead pressing to my neck. I kissed the crown of his hair, closing my eyes against the sting behind them.
The pale glow of the dying moonlight traced the lines of his face: the sweep of his lashes, the delicate parting of his lips, the faint bruising at his temple where the enemy’s blow had landed. Even in slumber, he carried the weight of our battles.
I brushed my fingers through his hair, slow and careful, as if he might shatter if I touched him too hard.
"You don’t even know how much you hold me together," I whispered, my voice barely more than a breath against the night.
He sighed and shifted closer, instinct drawing him toward me even in dreams. A laugh, broken and soft, caught in my throat.
I pressed my forehead to his and closed my eyes.
"Freyr Kayne," I murmured, tasting the gravity of his name like a prayer. "I vow this to you, even if you never hear it. Even if the gods themselves rise against us."
The bond between us was sealed, but not dead, thrummed faintly under my skin, aching for him.
"I will love you," I said, each word stitched into the air with iron and blood. "Not just in peace, but in war. Not just in joy, but in every moment that breaks us down and forces us to rise again."
I tightened my arms around him, feeling the frailty of his body, the unstoppable force of his spirit.
"I will protect you," I breathed. "Against Ash Marcel. Against monsters born of stone and nightmare. Against anyone who dares threaten what we are."
I felt something wet against my cheek and realized only then that I was crying silent, stubborn tears that I refused to wipe away.
"I swear it," I whispered into the hollow of his throat, where his pulse beat steady and real. "I will kill for you. I will burn for you. I will tear this realm apart with my bare hands before I let them take you from me."
Freyr stirred again, his hand fumbling in the dark until it found my shirt, clutching weakly, anchoring himself to me even as he slept. I wrapped myself tighter around him, shielding him from a world that wanted too much from him.
"Sleep, my heart," I murmured. "Dream safe. I’ll keep the monsters away."
Outside, the last sliver of moon dipped below the horizon, and the room sank into true darkness, but I stayed awake, guarding him, with the weight of my vow binding me more surely than any chain.
