Chapter 85: Source And Anger

"Why would I do that, Emma?"

"I-I-I don’t know because you’re a bad person?" That was the only plausible explanation, right? My mom taught me never to quickly judge a person, but what she did was enough for critique, you can’t just hand me a book and disappear, that was overly suspicious!

"Emma... I did not do that to you"

Why should I believe her? I just played along, because I needed some sort of answers to her doings.

"T-T-Then why did you give me the book?"

"I gave you that book be-" she ceased her words and I narrowed my eyes at her.

"You’re waking up," she said as her eyes surveyed the forest, I did too, but I didn’t feel like I was waking up but she seemed to.

Her eyes were back to me. "Emma Adams, I did not do that to you, you have to believe me, I would never do that to a family"

What was she talking about?

"I-"

Fog covered the area, and I gasped because she mysteriously vanished and I was the only one in the foggy background.

"Hello?" I called and my voice echoed back to me. I heard a branch snap behind me and I was forced to twirl, my heart began battering painfully, I couldn’t see or think in this damn thick fog, but I knew someone was here with me.

And getting the answer to my question when I saw two red dots and I knew all too well those were eyes, which could only mean one thing...

My soul left my body when I saw it move and I saw the worse at that very instant but I felt an arm pull me out.

~

I jolted awake, almost panicking but the arms around me kept me still and safe, my eyes were squeezed shut but I knew I was no longer in harm’s way.

"It’s okay I’m here"

On hearing Dace’s soft tone I sighed in relief and my once shaky body was depleted.

"Another nightmare?"

I nodded. "Vanessa said it would-"

"Shhh"

He wore my glasses and I opened my eyes and finally set my eyes on him, all my fear seemed to vanish, he opened his mouth to say something but nothing came from him.

"W-What’s wrong?"

I noticed his nose wrinkled like he was taking a whiff of something.

"Dace?"

He was up on the bed the next circling my room with his eyes like he was searching for something, okay now I was scared.

I heard him take several sniffs and his eyes were cold and I got a chill from it.

"Dace" I sat up.

His eyes were on me and I shiver, he didn’t look happy at all!

"I smell hate"

"H-Hate?"

He took a whiff again like he was trying to trace it. I had forgotten Dace had a special trait to detect anything by scent, but it seems like he was having a hard time tracing it, was it because of my scent again? Dace did say it was very intoxicating to him, that’s why he couldn’t trace that librarian.

That lady... I shivered remembering my encounter with her but before I could think further into it, Dace moved to my nightstand and my eyes followed.

My eyes weren’t on my pissed boyfriend but on the flower on my nightstand. He raised it and faced me with menacing eyes but it wasn’t directed at me and yet it made my skin crawl, I don’t think I will ever be accustomed to an angry Dace.

"Who gave you this?!" At his sharp baritone voice, my eyes darted to the roses.

"S-Sarah"

He squished the flower and I gasped about demanding why he would do such a thing because that was a kindness of someone, but I ceased my tongue when I saw something like dust emitting from it, purple and all shiny, was that...

"Fairy dust", on hearing his deep unfamiliar voice my eyes snapped to him, this was just like when that vampire attacked me, the murderous intent and the look of fury only this time he wasn’t shifting, maybe he might because his dark golden eyes were on the surface, and his looks were looking more animalistic.

I think he might shift!

I shot up from my bed. "D-Dace calm down"

He flung the flower against my wall and it made a loud crash and I squeaked with wide eyes, why was he angry?

He growled and faced me and I was forced to draw back in fear, I have forgotten how much of a beast he was, and it reminded me of that day, the claws, the saber tooth, and the blood.

I drew on my breath, Dace was scaring me right now.

"Emma!"

My eyes darted to the door, my aunt!

"Emma are you okay, I heard a crash" her voice was panicking right now, I remained still where I was because I knew that door would barge open any second.

I traveled my eyes back to where Dace stood but like a whiff of breeze, he was gone.

"Emma!" she rushed in, pulling her robe to cover her body more, I noticed she was shivering, was my room cold?

"Why is your room cold?" she asked and then her eyes darted to the squished roses and broken vase on the flower.

"I-I-It slipped, sorry for waking you" I finally found my voice but she seemed more focused on the trashed roses.

"Vanessa?"

"Fairy dust?" her eyes snapped back to me.

That was what Dace said.

"Oh no," she panicked. "What has Sarah done"

"I don’t understand" I know what fairy dust was, I have seen movies of Tinkerbell when I was little, Sarah was a fae so it made sense right? But why does Vanessa look like she has just seen a horror movie?

"A fairy shouldn’t use their fairy dust"

"W-What?"

"Because it brings both good and bad things!"

I tried to speak but she was fast.

"This was the source of your nightmares, Emma!"
